I love how the book implies that a single window opening is equal to an apocalyptic prophecy of despair and terror.
When Mortarion looks back and sees one of the window shutters open he is literally struck with terror.
His fate in that manor is worse then anything anyone can ever experience.

Fun fact: from a certain point of view, the Chaos Gods *are* their realms. So by burning the plague guardens, you’re actually hurting Nurgle directly.
Not only directly! But also permanently! That part of nurgles realm (as well as nurgle himself) recieved a blow that day that permanently maimed the god of death and life

Even in the epilogue when the master of rain visits Kughats tree he says that every thing in the garden feels real pain from the wounds inflicted by the anathema which never heal.

"Nurgle was displeased" well somebody needs to understand that beating up a demigod brother that is still weaker than himself is quite different from god showing up, reviving said brother and then burning the place to the ground. Nurgle might has to curb his expectations a little bit here.......
He was displeased because he brought the Anathema to his gardens and knew exactly what was about to happen.
This was him both simultaneously saving Mortarion from the emperor’s wrath and punishing him at the same time.
Two things Nurgel had asked him not to do that and such Terror of punishment is a great way to control someone.
Nurgle directly ordered Mortarion to abort his Plague bell plan and fight the forces of tzeentch who attacked the garden.
Mortarion refused and wanted to give nurgle Guillemen as a price.
Nurgle was displeased because Mortarion not only defied his order, not only did he failed to kill Guillemen and last but not least not only did he bring the anathema directly to nurgle, on top he defied very specific orders given to him. You don't just deny a gods commands without being spanked.
Big E even says next time nurgles tries something he won't just burn his garden.
In the epilogue of the book, the master of rain visits Kughats tree and explains how kugath was banished and damned to rot for a long while without being able to manifest because nurgle is angry with him. Literally made him 2nd favourite instead of first because he followed Mortarion in his disobedience.
When your very presence both lights up the plague gardens, and causes the demons to flee.
You are the true Emperor of mankind.
Now all this needs is an epic theme song.
I recommend something like Pantheon's theme song from League of Legends or Immortal Avenger by Two Steps From Hell

Sanguinius figured it straight away as the Emperor was literally talking with his own accent which is native only to Ba'al.
(The Emperor also spoke Fenrisian to Russ since Russ had no idea what "High Gothic" was till the week before he met Horus)

I love this moment. Whether or not you say the emperor cares for his loyal sons or no, the fact that he’s still with the shits enough to sense that, should guilliman fall, that shit would start hitting the fan in a major way.
I like to imagine the emperor deep in concentration in the ethereal plane, eyes closed in meditation…but the moment he sees guilliman fall to mortarion, the eyes open and he shouts “NO” and blasts through the warp to save him, surprising even nurgle in the process.
The fact that he still has the ability to, in dire moments, gather enough power to *directly* counter a chaos god, push back his warp realms takeover, heal his son and grant him holy power, AND maintain the web way gate being closed and the astronomican and keep doing all the stuff he does, is insane. Praise the fuckin emperor
In a way, he is stronger now than he was during the great crusde. Faith has power in the universe, and he has the faith of trillions powering him.
So weird to rlly imagine he's still alive yet dead. He's really the Corpse Emperor.
He went from: "I will give you my approval to try saving what's left." to "I will restore you and murder _Nurgle's_ ass!"
It's almost like Bobby G. struggles gave Him the will to fight back. 😎
He is not really a singular thinking being anymore. Guillemen says so himself. The millions of psykers being sacrificed to him is constantly with him. He is more like a fusion of millions of dead psykers souls.
In guillemens talk with Big E he even says that what he saw was obscured by uncountable numbers of screaming tortured souls mixed together with the aspects of the emperor's will.
The garden scene made Guillemen believe that lorgar was right about big E being a god.
The Emperor stepping in is more like a swarm of Hornets being commanded by one queen. It's disorderly and chaotic but still follows a target or goal and is not entirely random.
That is how I envision the emperor. A psychic being at this point that is fused with all the souls of psykers that were sacrificed to him.
That would also explain why Guillemen says big E has not one shard of humanity left

Jaghatai was never very interested in aiding anyone and abandoned the Imperium to chase down big tiddied goth chicks in the webway. Not very loyal.
Rogal Dorn is dead until confirmed otherwise.
Vulkan is presumably alive, until said otherwise, but has also just left the Imperium to rot and break down. Kinda shitty of him to not do anything about all that suffering.
Corvus is literally just stalking through the warp trying to punish every World Eater he comes across and letting Lorgar do whatever he wants, despite Lorgar supposedly being the focus of his anger. Imagine if he had turned that focus to helping literally anyone, let alone the Imperium.
Leman Russ is actually on a mission given to him by the Emperor, so that’s actually a fair point.
Guilliman probably doesn't know the fates of his brothers given how was put stasis during the horus heresy and the remaining loyalist primarchs all went MIA post said events. Bobby G pretty much has to assume that he is the only one of the loyal sons still alive.
Lion is asleep in the Rock. Khan chased the dark eldar into the webway and that's the last we heard of him I think. Vulkan is somewhere and some-when as he is a perpetual. Dorn is MIA somewhere in the Imperium. Russ is somewhere, he was last seen at the head of his most trusted sons crusading off into the eye of terror. Corax is probably the one we know the most about I think atleast, discovering the truth of himself and his brothers, almost killing lorgar, again

Insults to his prowess hurt Khorne more than any amount of holy fire.

The Emperor is not just the enemy of Chaos he is the _Anathema_ with the true power and will to destroy even them. Nurgle and his siblings are only around because he wills it, and presumably, because they have a purpose the Emperor allows in the Great Game whatever that may be. They fear him above all else for he can annihilate the very spirit or soul; they themselves cannot truly destroy anything, only possess and warp what already exists.
No. He Anathema because he is their opposite and no he is not stronger than them. If anything after 10k of sacrifices and worahip he became equal to them. No need to suck Big E that hard.
I read a theory that is now my head canon that the empire is powered by whatever the warp was before it became the warp. Always made sense to me. He is anathema because he is powered literally by the stuff they are made from.
the thing is you cant destroy chaos in the truest sense, as the warp and the warp gods are essentially the collective psyche of everything sentient good and bad (the reason why they are so evil leaning is because the 40k universe is so unbelievably F-ed up that of course the collective will of every species given flesh would lean that way) . you destroy them you basically make everybody make every human (and other species) a vegetable. So yes the emperor is so empowered now that he could destroy them. but he wont not in the true sense cause in doing so he will destroy mankind. probably has something else planned.
That lore is being thrown away by the final books of the Siege of Terra. The emperor is just another Chaos God, the dark king.
Really stupid retcon since the emperor has always been anathema to chaos, but the writers said screw that plot point.

I know Guilliman doesn't even really like the emperor, but part of me really wishes he pulled a 30k as called Big E "The Emperor of Mankind, Beloved By All" instead of emperor of terra
I would say most people in hives, those condemned to be servitors, those trapped in the penal legions for some inane reason and many more might feel like Big E really hasn't done anything to earn their love, but endlessly demands everything of them. Not what Big E wanted in life, but its the image the Imperium has built for him.
I find it strange that Mortarion has a strong hatred for Guilliman for some reason other than remaining loyal to the Man-Emperor of Mankind.
Throughout the Great Crusade, the two have never really interacted or bonded with each other that much especially during the Triumph at Ullanor where most Primarchs gather together to witness Horus' crowning as Warmaster.
Dont think of a daemon primarch like a normal primarch, they are shells of their former selves. Like emps said he was a victim has much has he was a monster, mort hated guilliman because nurgle made him do so.
All daemon primarchs are victims forever suffering..all but one....
Edit: this is also why clongrim is so interesting, he a primarch who ESCAPED daemon hood, a point of view we never seen before.
To be fair, when you are a bitter and resentful being who always prided himself on having it harder than others, and this has been elevated by becoming a daemon; imagine how much it must stick in the craw seeing a brother without any Chaos bonuses, alone, controlling the entire Imperium and resisting. Not just stubbornly refusing to give in, but having *optimism* and that Guilliman ideal.
I imagine he hates him more in the present, but probably had no end of shit to talk about Guilliman's ideals during the Crusade.
Part of being spiritually corrupt is wanting to inflict that suffering on others. His mind is warped.

It would be interesting to see a more neutral Loyalist Emperor's Children return, with Clonegrim redeeming some of his son's to rebuild a new chapter fighting on the fringes of the Empire to try and right some of the wrongs Daemongrim committed. It would also be interesting to see how Clonegrim would react to a resurrected Ferrus and vice versa. It would also be interesting to see what happens if Clonegrim fought Daemongrim and somehow eradicated his daemonic counterpart.
Honestly the only Primarchs that should remain out of the setting in person are Sanguinius and Horus (the latter because he's megadead and the former because it would unbalance the power dynamic between Chaos and Order if Sanguinius appeared in the flesh being the strongest of the Primarchs and fully able to wreck Chaos 24/7), though I think the former could be represented as a daemon of the Emperor and the latter by an empowered Abbadon filling his shoes.
Mortarion hates himself and his hypocrisy...he also did not willingly join the Grandfather. I imagine his spite and hatred of Guilliman stems mainly from himself and part due to Nurgle's dominating influence.

E told Guilliman he had to abandon millions of souls to die to save him.
I took the Emperor possessing him as something that was made possible (or at least easier/more effective) from the armor of plot since it seems to be actively psyker-based tech. The passage of him reviving again read like the suit's regen systems got supercharged by Big E.
well, the primarchs are fundamentally warp creatures. Think of them like the emperors greater daemons. Corvus seems to be the most "awakened" loyalist primarch but all the surviving loyal primarchs seem to be becoming more mystical. its less that they have specific "special powers" and more that they have natural abilities as a result of their connection to the warp, which manifest as things like the lions teleportation.

Thank you, all your content matters. I found that during Covid it was 40k loremasters that helped me with the depression and anxiety. Right now is really hard again and these small videos (in the grand scheme) carry so much potential for a smile or a laugh.

I remember someone brought up a point that I thought was interesting. That the chaos gods all share the mantle of chaos, so they are all splitting that mantle between them. While the Emperor is the only god that holds there anthesis mantle, order. And because he is the sole representative of order in the galaxy, he is technically stronger than any one chaos god, but is equal to the four of them together.

I don't understand the reasoning of Guilliman in this book. Why did he set up a battlefield and call Morty down to attack him? He knew he had no chance to defeat him. If he knew Big E had his back, then that would explain it, but nothing in the book hints at Guilliman believing his dad was going to save his ass.
He was planning on dying, on making a last stand. A desperate leap of faith. A hopeless act since he saw no other way to proceed.
