~BRIHADEESHWARA TEMPLE HISTORY~
If you want to see the magnificent temple in black stone, come to Tamil Nadu. Brihadeshwara Temple in Tamil Nadu is a very famous temple. The temple is a structure that does not fall to the ground
The temple has been built on a granite rock and is worshiped daily by the Archaeological Survey of India.
The temple has many names as well. It is also known as Dakshina Meru, Thiruvadayar Kovil, Periya Kovil and Rajarajeswaram Kovil.
The temple is known as the Big Temple since it was built in six years and 275 days. Brihadeshwara temple is one of the largest temples in India.
The temple is made of a single weight of 81 tonnes. Another highlight of the temple is that the shadow of the dome above the tower does not fall to the ground. The shade at noon does not fall down. It is believed that the shadow of the temple does not fall to the ground any afternoon of the year.
Moreover, the Thanjavur Brihadeshwara temple is listed among the tallest temples in the world.
The main deity of the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Completed in 1010 AD, the temple is more than 1,000 years old. The temple was built during the reign of Rajaraja Chola I. The Brihadisvara Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a fine example of the architecture of the Chola Dynasty.
It is believed that there are over 100 underground passages from Brihadisvara Temple to various parts of Thanjavur. Such routes are available to Rajaraja Chola's palace and other important places. But most of them are closed today. This is because of the danger of derailment in the underground.
