When I watch this man I feel like an apprentice again. The culture of Chinese architecture is extensive and profound and deserves our in-depth research and study all our life. I'm also a carpenter and like to think I'm decent at my job but this level of ability is crazy. I'd say these skills have pretty much died out after these men have gone. The ability to set out and execute this job with such basic tools is so impressive
there is a book called luban book . it is a carpenter teaching book. and it is also a black magic book. chinese people respect carpenters because they are afraid carpenters will spell black magic on them. this desk is called luban desk. all from that book 2500 years ago
Yes, respects to this genius. The method was likely reverse engineered(?) thus creating the blueprint here - probably in fact assisted by computer, then applied to the layout in physical outline form. Then cut away accordingly . Brilliant

Personally, I find watching fine craftspersonship very therapeutic in times like these. The music is relaxing as well to me.
Watching wood art like this makes me miss when I was still small and warching my grandfather using tiny drills to make these intricate interlocked toys. It was magic to me then, it still is now. Beautiful craftmanship, and I must say I hope you share more. This sort of craftmanship is a dying art, and one I would love to see continued into future generations.
This is a whole other level of design and engineering. It is easily the most complex piece of woodwork I have ever seen on UA-cam. This craftsman is amazing. How the heck do i tag people like the wood whisperer to see this?

The Ruban Stool was invented by LuBan in 2500 years ago. It called “Lu Ban Deng” in Chinese. The stool uses “mortise and tenon” to keep firm and stable.
Holly sht when grandpa opened that first time en three pieces moved, I was impressed, en the last part where it turned to a chair is super cool. Chinese traditional carpentry is incredible. Fast forward few centuries after, scientists will be claiming alien technology was used to produce that chair like they do with pyramids now
I absolutely love this guy. Been a contractor most of my life, even own our own business the past 6 plus years, and I blown away by this mans abilities and work ethic. Ive put over $70M on the ground in my career, and I want to go spend some time with this man just so I can be taught by him

Бакинец на самом деле кто работал по столярке и плотницкому направлению, я уже молчу про краснодеревщиков, то все сводится к рефлексам и мышечной памяти, ну и сноровке. Я бил гвозди узкой стороной молотка почти с закрытыми глазами и под разными углами. А на видео как-то неуверенно держал стамеску) Понял из-за чего. Чтобы кадр был лучше построен:)

For those who don't know, the titular 'Lu Ban' is a legendary carpenter/craftsman/builder from 5th B.C. While this person did exist in history, he is a bit like Bran the Builder in Game of Thrones that he became some sort of legend. For the past two millennia the Chinese have associated many folk inventions and achievements to Lu Ban's name. This type of stool is a traditional stool made throughout the Chinese history, not necessarily an invention of Lu Ban per se.

I couldn't even make this if I tried. Well done. I used to work in Solid Hardwood furniture and cabinetry and I've never seen anything like this. Even if I were to watch this over and over, I still question whether I would eventually be able to make something like this or not or even how many attempts it would take me to successfully make something like this. I think the fact he does this without the use of "modern" tools makes this that much more impressive. Sure, you could program a CNC mill to pump these out in a fraction of the time, but these are skills that will be lost if we keep selling our talents for commercialized profits.

In ancient Chinese architecture, use lots of mortise and tenon(榫卯) structure. just google Temple of Heaven in Beijing, and Dougong(斗拱) structure.

For those who don't know, the titular 'Lu Ban' is a legendary carpenter/craftsman/builder from 5th B.C. While this person did exist in history, he is a bit like Bran the Builder in Game of Thrones that he became some sort of legend. For the past two millennia the Chinese have associated many folk inventions and achievements to Lu Ban's name. This type of stool is a traditional stool made throughout the Chinese history, not necessarily an invention of Lu Ban per se.

I couldn't even make this if I tried. Well done. I used to work in Solid Hardwood furniture and cabinetry and I've never seen anything like this. Even if I were to watch this over and over, I still question whether I would eventually be able to make something like this or not or even how many attempts it would take me to successfully make something like this. Very interesting. Thank you for sharing Grampa Amu.

I think the fact he does this without the use of "modern" tools makes this that much more impressive. Sure, you could program a CNC mill to pump these out in a fraction of the time, but these are skills that will be lost if we keep selling our talents for commercialized profits.
That would bring no benefit to the man, they would just rob him of his talent and knowledge and take the profit and the credit.
