You just won me over with the realistic ballistics. Thats what gets going. And to be fair, that was most likely the only bullet to hit out of the whole valley being at 500 yards.
Rifled-muskets and Minie-styled bullets are absolutely accurate at that range. I suggest Brett Gibbons's works, his site and channel Paper Cartridges. The hilarious irony is that the ACW was largely fought without a single consideration to the abilities of the weapons being used. Here Brett lands 7 out of 10 hits on a 400+yd steel target with a P1853 Enfield using Pritchett-style cartridges (arguably, though seems to be, the ultimate form of the Minie), both imported North and South, especially in the South (Grant noted on many occasions the British marked cartridge packs and tubes on battlefields in the Western Theater). It's hard to say how the same rifle or a later model Springfield would do with the US Burton-style Minie. I hope he does a video on the accuracy of them in the future (though his latest chase has been perfecting the Williams "cleaner" bullet and dispelling myths related to it). The Thin-Red Line occurred in the Crimea because the Highlanders opened fire at ranges thought near impossible by almost every nation, and had time to pour many volleys into the Russian cavalry charge, one of the first times infantry had defended against cavalry successfully by fire alone. (Muskets would get maybe 2 volleys at their effective range, the P1851 Minie rifles opened fire at at least 500 yards while Russians were still in the early part of their progression to the full charging gallop, as cavalry doesn't just all out gallop, it's a build up to the gallop). ua-cam.com/video/dZ9NL5MGil0/v-deo.html Anyways, it's fun and interesting stuff, and I can't wait to try out some long range fire with my collection of muskets. His work has totally convinced me and the historical precedent is there in more than one place. Us Americans just didn't learn anything apparently (or subscribed more to the French version of that period of warfare where shock of the bayonet and melee were supposed to be the deciding factor).
@@goldenhide while it is possible they could reach distances well beyond that they were definitely not accurate at 500 yards especially given that modern muzzleloaders struggle after 200
@@ciscomartinez6092 Wrong, they were pretty accurate even at that range. What has to be considered is the increased bullet drop to quicker burning powder and decreased velocity as of today. But the main thing which made muskets innaccurate was the wrong fitting of ball to bore, the shape of the balls and the lack of spin. The minnie ball recreated in this video gets rid of the aerodynamics problem and collects more velocity than a ball, the rifled musket creates the spin getting rid of the tumbling induced inaccuracies. The only things left to make them inaccurate was fowling, which normally got taken off by both sides of the war regularly between battles. And the lack of very good sights. It’s funny cause that’s exactly how the civil war bullets actually looked I have one somewhere in my room the things been around so long it’s turned completely white
The Minie Ball was extremely deadly in the civil war. It was known to cause serious cavitation wounds; tear limbs off and leave serious flesh injuries from even grazing hits. Of all the pre-WW1 bullets the Minie Ball was considered one of the deadliest weapons of its time; because it left thousands of Union Soldier's dying from infections caused by impure and unclean lead processing the Confederates used. The Union wouldn't adopt Minie balls until later in the war; but by then the impact the weapon had was what drove U.S. forces to consider Sniping and cartridge rounds. If Minie Ball bullets remained in WW1 the death toll would have been much worse; due to the fact they behave almost like a cruel version of a fletchet round. I feel bad for anyone who got hit by one; they would spend days begging for death in a hospital as the wound became infected and their blood went sceptic. Truly awful bullet; and banned for use in muskets with good reason after the war.
And then someone gets an assault rifle and mows down the Confederates at the Battle of Antietam.... Darkest of Days Demo is available on the XBOX360 and STEAM so you can get pumped for this game. Man... can't wait.
video looks cool and all but i dont know what the video trys to tell me? Is every single ball in this game simulated and actually flying like this and was recorded within the game engine in slow mow? Or is it just a cool advertise?
I think it would be kinda cool if while say the Union was hanging out at camp or whatever you could make your own ammo and the better you did at making it the better it would shoot. Idk just a thought.
This is not really a survival/crafting game... Though from lead I guess one could make quick makeshift ammunition... just shove in the powder before it and... it either flies like sh*t or explodes the barrel from not coming out. lol
Really wish this game could come to console as I have a Xbox one and there are no games about the civil war that I can find. And this is by far the best and most realistic civil war game out there.
