People will argue "best" is subjective, but I genuinely believe GG is the most technically complete and proficient guitarist that has ever lived.
Very well summed up, totally agree.
I never thought of him as a technical guitarist, but that just speaks to his greatness
Matteo Msncuso is also way up there. In some ways more technically skilled. Not sure if as complete.
Number one !!!!!
To unseat Allan Holdsworth would take a whole lot.
Never expected to see Guthrie on the same stage as Johnny Marr, awesome
He is the evolution of a guitar player. He can adapt to any genre seamlessly with rhythmic perfection with feel.
All moments are BRILLIANT with Gutrhie Govan
Like all great players, he has never left his roots… in wizardry
unlike all great players, he never could write a hit.
@@RobertMJohnson Yeah right. Most of the best musicians in the world have never had a hit and never will. Who are great players to you, Slash? Not even the best Guns n Roses guitarist, much less one of "the greats"
@@samueljacobson470 Reaching for Slash as an imagined great guitarist both dates you and fails completely :)
@@talastra I'm 19 years old. I also have been to music and instrument stores around where I live many times and the amount of people who think Slash is one of the best is insane to me.
@@talastra I don't think Slash deserves nearly as much hype as he gets. He is not my "imagined great guitarist" as much as he as many other people's. I can't really bring up someone like Frank Gambali, John Petrucci, Ichika Nito, or whoever else I would actually consider great players because they haven't written hits either
People rave about his technique but what is more impressive to me is that he can just follow any chord change in any type of music and make things fit in his own way.. it’s just unbelievable
Not to mention his rhythm is on point every time
He truly is one of one kind fellow but truly the best walking the earth today!and a great teacher!
I have never in my life heard something like what he does in 1:40, not in a blues solo, not anywhere by anyone. Absolutely love it, sounds like a Tchaikovsky riff in a blues solo holy bleep it's incredible and gorgeous
i remember the first time i heard guthrie do this, at 7:34 in nick johnston's silver tongued devil. absolutely blew me away
reminds me of this ua-cam.com/video/ALqOKq0M6ho/v-deo.html
I thought I had heard every good player on earth until I heard this! This man knows music inside and out.
6:35 The way he sets up that melodic section is mind blowing
One of the best players I've ever seen. His mind is what's intriguing. His approach when he explains his techniques is amazing.
He lives in you solo has make me goosebumps
Even Hans zimmer and Lebo got that conection as you do
He is Guitar's Gandalf.
To all others he says. "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"
I have a ton of guitar heroes who when I watch them think they are just amazing. I hate to use the term best or greatest. When I watch Guthrie however I really feel he is the greatest guitarist of our generation. He can play forever and never play the same thing twice and it is like his technique takes a back seat to his musical intellect and creativity.
There are many greats, but Guthrie is the best guitarist that’s ever walked the face of the earth. The most complete. He has it all.
3:18 Such an amazing guitarist AND he has five McDonald's stars.
How can anyone can be so good. God bless Guthrie!
Unlike so many "shredders" Guthrie doesn't hide behind gobs of gain. You can actually hear his fingers interacting with the strings and the wood of the guitar with all the dynamics that entails.
Thanks for putting this together. It's appreciated.
So good . Everything he plays is so tasty and alot of uniqueness. Most creative guitarist I've heard .
some rare footage here! thanks for sharing
Great collection probably one of the best compilations on here.
Stupendous ! He's worth striving for !!!
The emotional faces Guthrie is pulling in purple rain, epic
So in the zone all the time...beautiful player.
Wot a rare collection there, Bruh! 👍💪
And, to truly describe the Guitar Player that Guthrie is -- NO WORD(s). 🤔🔥👑
Guthrie is looking like a wizard these days.. maybe he is.. He sure is working magic on the frets.
ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICIENT !!
An incredible player. He's the best I've ever seen, and there are some awesome axe slingers out there....
And he still is improving!
It’s hard to be super prescriptive regard the best of anything, but if someone could point me in the direction of any guitarist anywhere, alive or dead, who can transpose himself in to any song, in any genre, in any style and seamlessly integrate himself with such a range of skill, feel, and precision then I really really want hear that person play. GG is like a memory bank, a human Chat GPT of guitar players. If there’s something he can’t do I’m not sure anyone’s born witness to it, and we probably only see 5% of what he can do anyway. Absolute genuine one off total genius.
Unbelievable... wow... I can describe just about anything.., but THIS...??? No way!!! HAHAHA!!! This is insanity and I am utterly amazed at everything he plays!!!
2:45 What a solo Guitar
Gives me the chills. The melodic scale runs are so smooth and then the bends come at just the right times. I know he uses an Axe-FX now so I'd love to try to decode that tone on one. It's so creamy.
His soloing reminds me of the great Paco de Lucía, leaving style differences aside, of course. The clarity and precision while telling actually something.
only the best!
Amazing!
Prince is sometimes called a guitar hero (by fools). Especially his performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and the "Purple Rain" solo get singled
out as particularly brilliant by his fans.
And then GG comes along and outdoes both Prince and everyone else without even trying. Hell, I was surprised at how restrained his "Purple Rain" solo
was here......and yet, it's light-years above what Prince was capable of. GG just shits out music like the overlord of the universe.
you need therapy.
@@kaysCV Yes. I need help to survive in a world where there are Prince fans.
Nice. A lot of stuff I've never seen!
Guthrie is transitioning into Gandalf
Nice choice of clips!
Hes one of my favorites. I'd love to watch him jam with PHIL KEAGGY
He lives in you. That fucking killed me
If you liked this video, I've published a second compilation :
ua-cam.com/video/2hFLzYhxE2c/v-deo.html&ab_channel=%E3%80%8CAMV%E3%80%8Dandmusic
And I'm planning on posting a few more !
Guthrie could play any genre with greatness
I don't know if he's the best or not....I just know he and Al Dimeola always intrigued me. I enjoy seeing them live. They both make it seem easy with speed and precision.
Crazy good
Guthrie Govan = GENIUS 😊💯💯💯💯💯💯💯✌👍
Just wish he was in a group that played actual 10 minute long songs a la Genesis, Yes, or Crimson. The man is a savant
Like when he played in Steven Wilson's band? The 4th Aristocrats album may have things of your interest as well (Ballad of bonnie and clyde and last orders).
what makes guthrie great, imo, is he's just playful, light hearted, not self important. there's a takeaway there, hint hint , wink wink...
His humility is nuthin compared to mine…
what makes him not great is he doesn't have the creativity to write a hit. he's just an amazing emulator of talent.
@@RobertMJohnson If you think “creativity” and “hits” are synonymous, then you have either not listened to the current hits, or you have the musical taste buds of a carp. Go back to listening to Justin Bieber or WAP or whatever the masses consume these days…
I'm a bass player and I get it.
@@RobertMJohnson He seems to be a busy gigging musician and that is perhaps all he desires. He is not a one hit wonder type of musician but rather here for the long haul.
There is no one better
SIMPLY UNIQUE!!!
rock on brother!
"he should play faster and with more melodic sense." LOL. most speed demons are technicians; govan is a true artist
0:13 Forget Guthrie... That's Johnny Marr!
I'd say, Hans Zimmer has balls of steels to dare play the guitar on the same stage as Johnny and Guthrie.
GG is the best guitar player on the planet. Objectively.
3:33, beautiful bend
GG went gray fast!
I like that chord 😎
that nice guy played my guitar in concert for one song and signed it afterward !!! hehehe !!!
Man his playing has attitude!
No 1 sting, no 7 or 13 strings, just 6 strings, 2 hands and a whammy bar. He's a players player
The most complete guitarists ever
so humble and the greatest alive right now.
Messed up like Frank Zappa . Cool as hell !
Amazing. Thank You for posting and time editing. What did EVH think of GG ? Anyone know ?
Paul Gilbert is versatile . he can play anything.
2nd is Stormy Monday (I think...}
Any guitar player in the presence of Guthrie Govan must bend to him.
It includes Jeff beck and Seteve Lukhater,
Top Tier Level Musicians (Pro guitar/composer/transpositioner)
1) Top bands with talented musicians (e.g. megadeth, pantera etc)
2) Live sessionists (e.g. talent show/events/award show/talk show musicians, )
3) Solo/Instrumental Celebrities (e.g. Kotzen, Vai, Macalpine)
4) Studio/Production/Recording/Arranger/Composer/Improviser level sessionists (e.g. Marty Friedman, Guthrie Govan)
5) Masterclass/Alien/Genius/MENSA Level (e.g. Mozart, Beethoven, Guthrie)
Marty and Govan are the only guitarists that can make a blues solo interesting!
What about Robben Ford though
Wow
SHRED!!!!
Guthrie Govan is bluesy now.
Guthrie is like 'Messi' in the Electric Guitar world.
Hah! that turnaround at ~1:40!!
G.O.A.T.
I honestly can’t believe the cameras didn’t give Guthrie a proper highlight during his solo in the first clip.
That’s *the whole point* of a solo, to highlight a member of the band for a portion of the song. I mean, at least one cameraman tried to (from a bad viewpoint) but for the other guy who had a perfect view to be like “yeah, cool or whatever” almost feels insulting.
Hang on, let me try that. I'll come back when I got it down.
goat
Add more of these pliz
I just published a second compilation if you're interested !
They put Einsteins brain in a jar, and they should probably put Guthrie's hands in a jar when he passes, for all guitar playing tourists to behold and drool over!
I mean obviously I wasnt there to witness this in person but. The He Lives in You solo deserved a better goddamn mixer.
Calm down, it was recorded with a shitty phone lol
00:43 i would not want to be the guy to go after guthrie
Is that Hans Zimmer on stage in the first vid??
The more I dig into his videos, the more I realize Guthrie can pass as one of the Wrong turn hillbillies
Guthrie looking like Gandalf.
Me: I need some inspiration. Let’s watch some Guthrie.
…. Oh yeah, that’s why keep quitting… 😂
And he hasn't even unlocked his pinky yet.
I like to play the guitar.
I did not know that Hogwarts had a music department 😳
its a gibson les paul but when guthrie playing it sounds same with charvel
2:44
whats the name of the song at @2:23?
He lives in you - Lion King
Heaven opens at 5:00
Look...lookie look....gibsons staying in tune without a string butler
I recognised a little Vai - call it sleep lick in there 6:05
Guthrie is a monster but even he said that Shawn Lane was the greatest of all time... period...🎸🎸🎸
He was being humble…after listening to everything Shawn put out (including bootleg stuff) Guthrie is in a league of his own.
@@user-jq4xb5qp5s yes he absolutely is..🎸🎸🎸
No one can play what Guthrie plays
What can’t he play?
Bieber.
Poorly
Still waiting for GG to play songs.......
He has albums with a band called the Aristocrats.
He's alive . Shaun Lane
died too young.
