  • Video response explaining in a little better detail how I rigged my underdeck waterproof box, Yakgear accessory pouch, and a couple other new additions to the ol "Tor-Pete-o". Should be good for some ideas anyway...thanks for watching!

    Great ideas. New kayak owner here - Pungo 120- and I've spent hrs searching for these mods! I enjoy your channel. Thanks for posting.

    Thanks for sharing. You've definitely given me some ideas for me and my wife's kayaks. It would be nice to have the extra organized space to put the small things we like to take with us.

    One of those gizmos that you can hang on the back of your car headrest that allows you to hang you grocery bags or purse would work great for those crocks. WalMart sells those. I just got a 105 and this was unbelievably helpful. I use those interlocking diamond plate rubber pads you can put on your garage floor for the bottom of the boat cut to fit so my pup doesn’t slide around. Thanks for these terrific DIY videos.

      Thanks for the kind words Tim.
      I appreciate that very much.
      One of these days I'll get back to uploading videos on YT. It's a lot of fun (& Work) but the interaction with viewers keeps it interesting and it's fun to share! Thanks again for taking the time!👍

    Another nice video Pete thanks!
    Something that I've just added! I made a half spray skirt for my Aspire 105 from waterproof material & 6mm bungee cord.
    Keeps drips from the paddle out of the cockpit & helps keep the sun off my legs & my water cool!

      Awesome Tor! I'd like to see it....a mini skirt would certainly come in handy. I also think it would be useful for a fishing rigging area & sudden rain shower protection. Love me some yak mods!

      I could send you some pics of the skirt & some other mods, but don't know how to send them.....sorry maybe I'm being a bit thick!

    So since you guys felt the need to add a waterproof box does that mean the back compartment isn't waterproof? I played around with a friend's Aspire 105 and I could easily open and access the back hatch witch didn't seem particularly waterproof but stayed dry after a day of paddling. Is the back hatch waterproof?

    • @PeteBraginton
      @PeteBraginton  8 років тому

      Yes, the rear hatch is waterproof....at least has been for me. I occasionally check the foam rubber seal that lines the hatch, to make sure it's seated properly as once on a winter trip it iced up and unseated itself when I opened the hatch. I even ran my pressure washer over it a few times just to check the rear bulkhead seal and the hatch seal to make sure no water (even high pressure water) could get in....bone dry! As far as the dry box, I wanted something up front in the cockpit for easier access to small items like camera batteries, cell phone, spare camera, USB cables, snacks, tobacco, etc. A small dry bag would certainly work for that stuff as well, but the box is kinda transparent and condensed....so getting to small things is a bit easier w/o the digging. Turning around to open the rear hatch while seated, to search around for quick access items like a GoPro accessory seemed tedious....so the drybox idea came to mind and works very well for that purpose.

      Yeah ok, when I get the same model as my friend (aspire 105) I guess I'll have to rig up this front box then. Also thanks for the assurance in regards to the back hatch's ability to keep things dry.

      +SouthPaw No problem, glad to help out! Come to think of it, the only time I thought the rear hatch had leaked....it turned out to be either condensation on dry sacks/items I had packed away and then sealed up the hatch afterwards, or small drips from the exterior of the hatchdoor getting inside when I opened it. Either way, it wasn't major leakage and can definitely be avoided now that I know what it was. Thanks for watching and take care!

    Zip ties would work pretty nicely for the YaKPack gear bag as well. You would lose access to all of that, near your dash, with a half skirt...

    • @PeteBraginton
      @PeteBraginton  8 років тому

      I thought of using zip ties for the YakPak gear bag, but I wanted everything to be removable and the Nitize grip twists worked out perfectly if I ever wanted/needed to remove/re-attach the bag without having to cut/carry extra Z ties, plus they are very handy to have on board for various reasons. Correct, the YP gear bag is not accessible when using either one of my two skirts ( they both have pockets) so I just transfer the gear bag items into those pockets when skirted up. The gear bag is mostly used as a "quick shove" pocket for small items that I don't want rolling around the cockpit while fishing or just casual paddling (usually camera accessories, cell phone, tackle, etc.) Thanks for watching!

      Alan Gross You will absolutely love doing all three of those things with your new kayak!!! Just wait until you start tricking it out and customizing it with stuff that makes all those activities more enjoyable on the water.....the possibilities are endless!! Have fun and Float on!

      I've already installed flush mount rod holders and a spray deck (half skirt). I am having to McGeyver the half skirt because the rim of my cockpit is very shallow. Right now I am changing the 1/4" bungee cord that came with the spray skirt for 3/16", hoping it will stay under the rim better. Then I'm looking into making a camera mount for my DSLR.

      +Alan Gross LOL! That's awesome! I knew once you started, you wouldn't stop. For every mod. you start with, it gets you thinking of something else! Good idea with the different shock cord for keeping the skirt tight, sometimes the shallower combing makes it tough for a tight fit. Excited to see some videos of your creations when you get finished! Take care!

      Appreciate the kind words jasonjohnson9403👍. I got over making YT vids a few yrs. ago and decided it's more fun adventuring without feeling the need to record & upload to this platform. Thanks for finding an interest in my old vids...maybe I'll try doing it again someday on another platform like Gab or Rumble. Take care!
