  • This video is the second in a two-part series I share about why I resigned from my position as a pediatric resident and left clinical medicine altogether.
I share my reflections about what I know now looking back and if there were warning signs I should have paid attention to. (Part 1 discusses the actual lead up to me leaving)

Jessica, your mental health comes first Don't allow anyone on UA-cam to judge you. They did not pay your tuition and they don't even know you. Second, you are not alone. Healthcare professionals across the globe can relate to you. Many beside nurses and advanced practice nurses want to quit right now. You are not alone sweetie. You just happened to be one of the few honest ones out there. I wish you all the best.

You just worded out my entire situation verbatim. Its like listening to a parallel universe situation.

I also am leaving residency for my mental health.

Hi Jessica!! Thank you so so much for sharing your story. So much of what you shared resonated with me. I am currently in undergrad deciding between medicine, nursing, PA, or Pediatric psychology. I love so much about medicine but sometimes I feel like I may just be thinking about it for the wrong reasons. It’s been a struggle deciding what route I will be taking but hearing you speak about your experience has definitely helped me place certain things into perspective. So thank you! I hope all is well!

I know this video is 2 years ago and you likely have found your way, but if you want to talk clinical psychology et me know. I direct a clinical psychology PhD program, it isn’t too late if you want to take that path since it sounds like you have interest there.

Thank you, i think a lot of people resonate with this video. In medicine, we have a hush hush attitude towards these things.

Current M1 here: It's great that you are in a better space mentally and doing what's best for you. BUT with that said I hate people like you if I'm being honest. Getting into medical school is 1 of the most challenging things do. For you take Premed courses, the MCAT, STEP 1 and 2, complete ERAS applications, go on residency interviews to then say this isn't for me is digesting. You essentially took a seat from someone in medical school and a residency position form someone who possibly didn't MATCH. Matching into a residency is going to get more difficult with more applicants and the politics of Universities and people like you that just go with the flow and say "oooo I pursued medicine because my family" or some other stupid response is just disgusting. BUT best of luck with your future goals and plans
