- Nine Inch Nails and Gary Numan - Cars LIve in London 2009. This video is edited from three different cameras - the NIN official camera and two fan cams that I found on UA-cam. Thanks to the three photographers! They each were so good that I felt they needed to be combined.

Nothing says commitment better than a man playing the tambourine until he is completely drenched in sweat. Love these guys. Love Gary Numan. Rock on!
Not just playing a tambourine but also a master of the synth! Awesome skills.
Imagine Trent - the lead singer of the band - being Gary Numan's Tambourine Bitch in a kick-arse song in a NIN gig!
End of concert. Dude was already there.
Cars never ages . Gary Numan never ages .
The drummer was f'n ON POINT for this performance. Holy shit.
Ehhh......
Reminds me of Shannon Larkin.
Giving Taylor Hawkins a run for his money!
Ilan Rubin is a BEAST
Absolutely
I can’t stop watching this at least 5x’s a day not counting listening to it in my car. This is perfection.
Fuck yeah
It seems to me that when Trent Reznor plays tambourine for your 1980s synth pop hit, you are being honored at the highest level.
Truly this song has lost nothing over the decades. Love this version!
I know it's nit picking but the song was released in 1979 only a year out though😊
Could you imagine how epic it was to be there live? The audience went nuts when they started playing...
I was there. It was a great show.
Every once and a while a perfect performance comes along . Your looking at it .
This song never ages
Apparently, neither does Numan.
Yeah. It really and truly never does.
That’s because it was made in the future
@@aarongreenyt 😄
Wow, the most awesome and respectful thing I think I have ever seen. Not only did Trent pay homage to Numan and share the stage for him but he actually took the time to be the tambourine man as well. Wow!
PS
Thanks for taking the time to splice these together, well done and appreciated.
Greg Burcham Props to Trent hes badass played the hell out of the keyboards and that tambourine..BETTER THAN ORIGINAL VERSION.. KICKS ASS COMPLETELY!!
@@matooleyobrien2918 Not better than the original. Both versions are perfect during the decade in which they were played.
'Took the time to play...' (?!)
I'll bet he was thrilled to rock out to synth music when nasty a young kid!
Watta show!!! It seems they would be great touring mates with.
Often bands are paired up by promoters that make no sense.ì
Different musical styles, or stage presences are enough to make or break any positive dynamics.
Here they work together in a terrific meeting of the talents.
Watta show!!
Funny thing is no matter what genre you swear by, you'll probably know this song. It's got such a timeless quality to it, and no matter if it's 40 years from when it was released, it STILL sounds like it's from the future!! It's one of those songs they'll be talking about, playing, & listening to well after Gary goes past the great beyond.
Like Norman Greenbaum's Spirit In The Sky (in a different genre, of course).
Numan's smile at 0:23 is priceless.
At :13 the audience realizes things just got real and pops!
The audience gets it, which makes it so cool.
hell yeah.....they get it.
I don’t get it, I worked at a grocery store and they played this all the time and the context of working and this song made me hate it
@@Idontcare1314 thats just wrong..........nevermind
Please center your avatar, it’s driving me crazy. OKBABYILOVEYOU
@@Idontcare1314 It's okay, you got old.
Unreal. The energy is off the charts just in this video, can't imagine what it was like to be in that space. Fantastic.
Just freaking bad ass, can't believe this song came back kicking butt, credits to NIN their band!!👍
Check out Fear Factory's version.
Numan was an innovator and even though a lot of his music was not top 40 it was still very important. NIN knows this and without artist like Numan and others like Kraftwerk and Depesch Mode bands like NIN may have sound differently.
I read up on Numan out of curiosity. He changed his sound for about 10 years and his own label didn’t do much either which is shocking. My guess is that’s how he got into debt. I found that out through a TV interview.
You forget such bands as Duran Duran, to which Trent mentioned was a massive inspiration on him. ✌🏻
In this performance Gary Numan passes his baby to the next generation to take care of it and let it blossom.
What an act of respect and appreciation from the two of rhem!
And by the way:
Trent Reznor demonstrates the importance of a tambourine ! 😁
Speaking as a 47 yr old Radiohead fan, this may be the best thing on UA-cam......🤔
get chills listening to this version......
Best I can tell, Gary is playing a Original Analog PolyMoog Synthesizer as he did on the original version, now that's cool.
Bring down the wall ;)
DoubleVisionandco yeah they really showed respect to him! Deservingly so!
Is there any other?
That “A” key is getting a workout.
Super bad ass those old analog machines kick ass
Drummer going to another zone
@Kevin Kelly It's actually Illan Rubin. He plays with Angels and Airwaves now
Man, made it so much better!
Drummer is from the muppets...? :-)
Seeing this was like a lost deja vu moment. Then I realized that it was Don Brewer banging on his kit in the live '74 version of We're An American Band by Grand Funk.
Yes indeed he did. ooooweeee he tore those drums UP!!!
Man, who are the 17 strapperheads that gave this video a thumbs down 👎🏼. Seriously, those peeps better check themselves.
Add four more straps for a total of 21 pecker checkers!
21 poptarts loving fans/haters I bet!
This song is the most instant classic of all time...
have not seen this NIN cover with Gary Newman; awesome!
OMG! I love this song and studio version and this Live is just awesome! Chills all over my body.
That guy on the drums was playing for his very life!!
😄
That Drummer's playing style reminds me of "Animal," the Drummer from "The Muppets."
He's a fuckin' beast!
He replaced Taylor in The Foo Fighters now. Josh Freese.

It’s Ilan Rubin.
I just love watching them (especially Gary) have so much fun.
This song never ages
Gary Numan kicks ass!!!
one of my all time faves. never gets old. Trent Reznor is a multi-tasking effing genius.
Love NIN & loved that song in the 80's, played the hell out of it, so much so that whenever it's played on the radio now, my 93 year old mother still recognizes it & says my name , remembering how much I love it. 😀❤
holy shit this drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ilan Rubin is the man!!
Animal from the Muppets ;-)
Bass riff is cool too man, oh yeh
yep, to play this live, when it was composed for a drum machine, supposedly beyond human skills, just wow
Great fill work on the cymbals, miss my pearl 7 piece. :(
I was on the stage for this song it blew me away how slick it sounded still gives me goose bumps🤘💣
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 dude I'm so envious of you because I could just feel the vibe from the whole audience and the whole deal
The audience gets it, which makes it so cool.
OMG! I love this song and studio version and this Live is just awesome! Chills all over my body.
wow.....who knew gary numann could rock cars like that.
These friends are definitely electric.
I understood the reference!
@@TheTrueThanatos FINALLY!!! SOMEONE!!!! 🖤
@@heaetherhexxx haha yeahh!
A timeless tune that I still love to hear after 40 years! I still have the original 45 r.p.m. record. Nice tambourine and a wonderful tribute! Cheers everyone.
Nothing better than a massive crowd happy as fk jumping and dancin all in unison. Always loved this song. Damn I miss the 80’s (for the music)
Cars.. the only rock song written where the tambourine has to be tight!
The additional camera angles take the video and the song to another level.
Trent playing a tambourine on any song 🎵 is saying something about the song 🎵 being that awesome 😎 and the band is NAILING IT
A damn fine rendition . Great everything .Well done Gary and Trent .
Gary Numan is immortal and does not age.
one of my all time faves. never gets old. Trent Reznor is a multi-tasking effing genius.
That song will be forever future sounding and fantastic.
the drummer....hell yeah
absolutely THE best concert song ever!
YUP
I've never seen this video before, but this is extraordinary brilliant
All these comments about the drummer, i hope he reads some of them ! Beast mode ! Makes me wanna get a kit.
Gary Numan looks more like Trent Reznor than Trent Reznor.
And his music is moreNIN than NIN these days too
And the award for Best Comment goes to.....YOU!!
hahaha cracked me up!
Holy shit...you are right!
Hahaha truth
BRAVO 👍🏻👨🏼👍🏻
I watch this about once a week, every week, it's one of the rockinest things EVER.
Song kicked ass in the late 70’s and more so with NIN❗️
Everyone on that stage is maxed out. You know you’re kicking it when a tambourine is bad ass.
The absolute commitment to the music in the performance is crazy awesome.
Unbelivable! 30 years old song rocks now!
Ok, this drummer is phenomenal.
Every musician up there is having fun and it comes through big time!
Obsessed❤..#1 the tambourine #2 you can feel the audience just losing their ever-loving mind this is a classic
This is the definitive performance of this song.
Newman has a voice of his own, legend
great beat.
wow.....who knew gary numann could rock cars like that.
s!laala
Just about everyone did
who knew that Gary Numan could still look good and sound great rockin' after all these years since the 1970's?
Who knew ? You mean... Your a dipshit....
Fear Factory?
Cars was the 2nd single I ever purchased, great finding such a fantastic live performance of the song.
Bravo Gary Numan!! spaccano di brutto i NIN 👊
No one read what you said Stephen and all the credit to you M8. Your editing with Pro & Amateur actually maybe the whole thing better if that's possible. Its raw and edgy and puts you there..Great job with an amazing song and performance.
have not seen this NIN cover with Gary Newman; awesome!
Aaah, takes me back to junior high. We had an alternative rock station that let the DJ’s play their own music. Commercial free. Nice job Trent and NIN.
Cars is an 80s favorite. Now a 2020 classic, but sounds better than ever.
This is the best thing i've ever seen and heard in my entire fucking life. I was watching the "metal" vid, and then the fluttering came at the end, and I went "shit fduck shit fuck", and when i went to this vid I heard the crowd explode in cheer when the other instruments kicked in. That's precious.
FANTASTIC!!!
My favorite song when i was five played by my favorite band as a teenager put together to enjoy when im middle aged. Tremendous.
Damn... this is good shit.... Mr. Newman you still got it... Mr Reznor thank you for this sweet treat....
OMG! I love this song and studio version and this Live is just awesome! Chills all over my body.
Wow! So good, and what a Drummer!
Flawlessly done.
Mind = Blown.
Ооо старые добрые темы, как же все таки ностальгия сильна. С детства их слушаю, огонь вещь, для меня на все времена.
Never saw that before, love it!!
This is just so insanely good!!!!
I remember thinking when Cars came out, this is some kind of dividing line. There was the music that existed before, there will now be another music to come after. Like a portal was found, opened a bit, and then Numan just blasted it wide open so the 80s could pour through
yep i believe this song and possibly Lets Go by the Cars single handedly brought in that soulful techno rock/pop that made the 80s the best decade ever
wow , I just watch original video from Gary Numan - Cars and then find this super collaboration with NIN ;)
whatever you do dont listen to the Fear Factory cover of it......Well not before cranking up the volume first!
This is just epic. Respect for NIN
Kicks this classic right into the future 🚘
was at this concert and when someone like Trent Reznor steps back and give you the stage...you done good...the vibe that night was absolutely amazing...we all knew there was a guest but when GN came on the place JUST WENT WILD
This is brilliant
listening to this on headphones loud..holy shit what an awesome version...
I hate when Vids are blocked because much good dialog and Great comments are lost. These are along the same line, let's hope the viewer numbers grow and the Homage!

Totally awesome!!!! Love it that drummers killing it!!!
DAMN LIVE!
Killing it
Talk about ahead of his time.
In the 80s when this song was released, music enthusiasts were blown away by the new wave sound.
I was a kid when this song came out, maybe 8 or 9. And people weren't just blown away, they were frightened.
I bought "Cars" on a 45, b/w "Metal."
incredibly accurate. . detailed to perfection
Gary Numan looks more like Trent Reznor than Trent Reznor.
wow.....who knew gary numann could rock cars like that.
I don't know who's behind that drum set but he's on point!!!
The guy is good... As far as I remember he plays for Paramore too, hahahaha
Thats also an original analog tambourine!!!..
Way to to trent!!
Song is so kickass..then and now!!
Chillz
The audience gets it, which makes it so cool.
Flawlessly done.
Gary Numan kicks ass!!!
I 😘 ve Gary Newman so much! I love his voice!
I've followed NIN on several tours and this one show I missed. I'd give my kidney to have been there!
Love this, has a great sound to it! I remember when this song first came out, still have the record.
Watching the drummer bang the drums like Monster from the Muppets is awesome. 🥁
Omg. Amazing. Everyone played the part in this, and as for the drummer. Fucking quality dude.
The audience gets it, which makes it so cool.
