@@Neon_Gorilla Not sure man all I play is the Haven games and Root :p Whichever one you try that isnt the hottest new thing is very interesting and fresh to hear. I love when a game mechanic gets executed to perfection (usually at my expense) and it makes me stop and say “oh man that’s really clever” and the outcome becomes less important than the experience. Digging this idea for a series! Certainly helps me understand what makes a game tick to see specific clever mechanics in action.
Love to see you recommend and review this game. I’ve recommended it for you about a year ago. Great to see you try it and love it. The game is so deep but rules light. Every action matter. You really have to stay on top of your game. Early mistakes can be very costly. Love the first player mechanism. You can plan/choose to not produce as much energy as the other players in a round so you’ll get to be first in the next round. Which could be so important. Most of my games I didn’t produce much energy at the first two rounds. But build up to a mid to late game spiral. By planning around the round goals. When going into the last round you should be setup to produce 30+ energy and maximize the round and endgame goal. That’ll net you close to half of the total points you’ll get in the entire game. Others might view you as the sleeper throughout the most of the game. But if you can pull it off. You’ll probably win. So much strategy and depths to this game. Not to talk about the theme. It’s so unique and makes sense which also makes the rules explanation easier. Because people can make sense of the mechanics. So so good. Really glad you like it. ✊🏼👌🏼💪🏼
Your videos really are great. You should have way more followers and I bet this will come. It is so important to get the impression that the reviewer likes specific points about at game that I could like too and you are doing this very well. While I appreciate your thought behind not doing rankings, I think that a “best of 2024”, “best of all time”, … would at this point be very very good for the UA-cam algorithm.
Well I'll be damned. I was looking for an overview video for barrage a few days ago. This is the best overview that actually made me understand what its about lol
The thing that has been holding me back frm trying earlier are the ugly board and the fact that the action selection seems weak from a mechanism point. Interesting its a reason why you like it that much
Oh no it is a feature….when we play you are going to be squirming trying to play your 12 workers and any money you have for the optimal turn. Then you are going to try to predict what others want to do then run a cost benefit on which space you absolutely need and what you can pay more for later. There is a perfect amount of scarcity and you tend to always be one worker short to do what you want to do.
"you can plan for it." This man knows his stuff. All other reviewers that claim the game is "mean" need to read and understand that statement. Yes, "you can plan for it!"
I think people misunderstand a dynamic play state with “mean” sure there are some mean games where you don’t have do something to another player but there are others like barrage where somebody foiling your plans is in its DNA. In this case the game is your reaction and foresight to those moves. I think the real issue is a game might not motivate a player to learn enough about how a game works in order to appreciate it which is why I made this.
@@Neon_Gorilla I agree, and I think BGA helps with that. I also learned it and still play it a lot on BGA before getting my copy. I think some people fail to realize that the game can be a slow build up. You will be disappointed if you take one round at a time and/or try to do everything.
Apart from the 'look ' feel' (why I haven't come to give it attention) I can appreciate the mechanics and flow ;-) of this game. I've neglected it the last couple of years but this video gets me excited to try it out. Same happened to me with TM and Ark Nova.
I remember when they launched the Kickstarter. I was really interested in it, but the shipping cost to my address just was prohibitive. This happens a lot! Sometimes, the shipping is more than the pledge itself...
Will Grand Austria Hotel hit your older games I missed series? Or just a Simione Lucani Series? Another reason to get Darwin's journey and play more Nucleum

there is and I have only played the bga implementation which is the same without having to run it yourself. Seems to work good. The bot screws me left and right
@@Neon_Gorillareally? I haven’t had any desire to try it two players. Needed the duel map. Just been thinking two players on the original map would be very much non interactive. As you could easily build your engine on each side of the map. Of course you’ll get in each others way eventually. But not as much as with 3 or 4. But maybe I’ll try it if you think it’s still good two. 😃🤌🏼
@@Michaelrsted I will qualify my wife and I appreciate take that so we get in each other’s way. There are also fewer action spots so you remain severely restricted and those spaces are highly competitive.
Lol I randomly stumbled on that game through the kickstarter for a deluxe version that is somehow at 2 000 000 % funding because the backer goal is 10 € for some reason.
I play a ton at two and love it. The map is a little more open but there is a 2 player map you can get which I have not tried. I would if I could get it. My wife and I have had a blast playing the base game though
I would strongly encourage getting the duel map if you want to play with two. It is a *much* better system. If you *do* want to play a "regular" map at 2, I'd play with one or two automas to keep the space tight (in my opinion).
Yeah, I just played it last night and it's mostly just a great euro, you can do something stupid where you'll obviously be blocked and taken advantage of, but you can see it prior.
The biggest problem with this game is finding a place that sells it without charging shipping that is as much as the game. ( at least from my searches)
BGA is free and where I started, I traded for my physical copy so I suppose I got lucky. I can't find any of the expansion content anywhere and really don't want to wait a year for the KS to fulfill.
I looked into this game once but the art direction is so depressing. It looks like you’re working for the coal industry, not hydro. They needed to take the complete opposite approach, similar to a game like Daybreak.
well technically you are trying to steal energy from other countries which could lead to black outs, famine, rioting etc. I heard a tik Tok say that after two weeks with no power people would resort to cannibalism which certainly is less than ideal. However if your country is on the winning side then I suppose your states will certainly rally behind the cause of survival albeit at the cost of others. Now that I think about it the social consequences of this game are something I should have explored.
