In terms of being boring, I was still right! The winning list was as devoid of spice as possible. In terms of competitive strength, I won't say I was right but I also refuse to take the L 🤣 If anyone other than Jose won with Ryukyu, I might accept the L. But Ryukyu saw the most representation by far and if it wasn't for Jose, only 1 would have made top cut. Jose won webcam Nats, season 1 webcam RLE, season 2 webcam RLE, and now this webcam event. For some reason, Jose is indestructible in webcam events. Plus, Patrick still would have won despite going second if his deck cooperated game 1 and game 3! Ok the above paragraph might just be me trying to cope with Ryukyu winning 🤣🤣
My biggest issue with ryukyu is while she is an aggro deck her entire deck lets her out all the normal aggro outs. She can commit characters and commit foundations while also playing 5 attacks on a 5 in a turn and drawing a card each time. I dont think its just this turn 2 aggro, i think with the amount of card draw and the fact dragon strike and vast strength are able to be used defensively makes her on her other symbols also a problem.
Yea her kit solves most of her problems. It would be cool if she had to look outside her kit to find optimal builds and answers. Instead they are all right there, served on a silver platter.
@@talkUVS exactly. Other decks have to fight for space to up their consistency, have to play answers that otherwise don't help their game plan, etc while Ryukyu just has them. I also don't think she just goes away after CED is gone. Her life and earth build are arguably better in the long term because her foundation value she gets outside of her kit is great in those symbols
Ehh I've never been convinced when sometime tries to tell me UVS is boring, not once, and I think the argument for Momo or Recovery Girl as boring is much more compelling than this. You're BORED by "draw a card"? "A world champion shouldn't make the same choices as a beginner" a worlds-level competitor shouldn't see the same 16 attacks on the page and shut their brain off, take the holistic view of those two decks -- let alone the holistic view of how those decks can be played -- and you'll find a million differences. To me, my beef with Ryukyu is simply that she's better than my random brews, but then my random brews don't matter -- if Ryukyu is actually balanced against the top tier of competitive decks with Overhaul etc, then at least in competitive terms we don't have any problem
I should clarify that I'll still take "boring UVS" over anything not UVS 😂Universus can't not be fun to me. Nothing is every truly simple gameplay wise - it's a very skill expressive game in my opinion. When I say Ryukyu is "boring", I'm talking much more from a deck building angle, which does bleed over some to gameplay. I don't like the optimal attack lineup being so extraordinarily simple. Slam her 16 attacks and your done. Sit across from Ryukyu and you don't even have to review a decklist to know the lineup. Of course card players like drawing cards and she plays much faster than control characters like RG/Momo. Maybe I should have clarified boring as being "lacking spice". The main spice I have seen is playing advice for winners, pass through walls, and tracking device - all to ensure checking well.
I think the back page attacks did a great job of helping sealed. Her attack should have been more like those, attacks with no abilities but some static effect that is either positive (lower stats) or negative (higher overall stats) then they might see play for other characters since they are more than raw numbers.
I agree that she is boring, but I very much disagree that playing 1 Texas Smash Vs 4 is a decision that makes Good punches not boring 😂. All 3 of those characters I feel are much closer to Ryukyu then they are to the rest of the format lol
But could you imagine if Ryukyu was made 6 sets ago? We would be running the same attack lineup for 2 years now. Will other attacks every truly break into Ryukyu's optimal build? It's hard to see how more variation comes down the line. Unless blank attacks are here to stay 🙈
I agree that she is boring but i feel like this video misses the point as to why the other characters mentioned are boring. The gameplay loops are what is boring, and yes the decks can have variation, but in any card game the competitive decks are going to follow a certain deck blueprint. Decks can have variation with foundations and tech pieces but i don't feel this is the issue with the game, it is character designs that facilitate a boring gameplay loop and uninteresting and non interactive gampley situations.
True, gameplay wise a lot of different characters can be deemed "boring" or "interesting" depending on what you like. To some, aggro decks can be exciting. To others, a slim and trim 50 card deck with a consistent playstyle might be boring. Same with control playstyles like RG/Momo. When I say Ryukyu is boring, what I really mean is that the deck building itself is not interesting. There is very little "spice" to be had.
I do think they care, but that they have just set the bar really high for what it will take. Which makes sense from some angles - nobody likes seeing their favorite cards/strategies taken from the game.
The aversion by UVS Games to banning cards is problematic. Regardless of data, it is simply a negative player experience (“not fun” in your words) to watch your opponent circumvent the core principles of design and play 5 attacks on turn 2 without a real cost. Don’t know why this is controversial to them.
The reason it is controversial to uvs games, to my knowledge anyway, is because all of their bans prior to one with nature seemingly pissed off a lot of people at the casual level.

May want to look into Bartle's Taxonomy before saying that being boring is the kiss of death.

Rotation comes in February and nothing will be banned.

Should be at best: on a 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Right now it is on a 4, 5, 5, 4, 5, 6. 5 progressive difficulty ignored.
