  • If you've seen the previous video on this truck then you know the timing chain cover had a hole wear in it from the timing chain. I hated to see the old truck ALMOST ready to drive so I decided to do the easiest and cheapest thing to get it back on the road.

This was a great video!! I’ve enjoyed watching the rapid evolution of this channel. This one, more than a lot of the others, shows how to take literally nothing and make it something. Lockjaw and the Ford Wagon from last week…both of those would have earned nothing more than a sad head shake from me. Chad looks at them and says “I’m gonna drive that!” Then he sets about doing exactly that. Love this channel!!

Chad I know your use to it, but you live in a paradise, nothing more beautiful than driving in the country, when we were kids and our father had us on Sundays we always asked to go for a ride in the country

LoL it's one of the joys of backyard automotive work. It never fails, you're under the pickup trying to put the transmission in using a floor jack and an end wrench and you drop the bolt. Not only is it lost forever, but now you're looking silly with a wrench in one hand and the jack in the other.

Growing up on the farm we had a 52 Chevy Straight 6 my older sister and use to ride in a riding club we use to pull 2 quarter horses in a 2 horse trailer behind. I was only 16 Dad wouldn't let us take the newer trucks afraid we'd go to fast. We had a hill on I-40 called Big Danger in Arkansas we usually ended up in 1st gear before we reached the top. Some of the Seniors in the Club ripped dad a new one over it. He bought a 62 Ford Short Step side straight 6 with a 4 Speed with Granny gear it wasn't the fastest but at least we could pull big Danger in 3rd gear. The joke on the other Team Members was a big thunderstorm hit one evening at a show and Dad happen to be there, they had to hook Tractors to the newer trucks but that old Ford with 2 quarter horses in the trailer walked right out of that mud on its own, we had started to unload but Dad was like nope slow and easy and she'll come out and sure enough not one wheel spun.

I have a 1949 five window, when I it had nine couts of paint with a brush , so I sand blasted and it sixteen bags of sand , now this is 1976 ,so I primed it and drove to school and everybody made fun of it,and the girls wouldnot ride it the way it was so one week end I said to my self I will make it a show truck and it only 7 months and I had 13 coats of paint and took to the world of wheels and I one first place and to top it off I had Miss Golden shifter Linda Faugh on my runnig boards for pictures I had this truck for 47 years now and am on the fourth time re doing it, dont a lot of money, so I know were you are comming from,my truck has a 327 300 hp but I have good freind and now it puts way over 360 at the back wheels, and when I want to go street racing put my power glide in and when not the 350 is there it only take 20 min to change everything out,I also have a stock 52 235 4 speed that I drive for back up and thenI have 52 panel that I chopped 3.5 and I have a 66 buick drive tran I going to put in the panel truck and make it a sleepper, so enjoy what you have.

Make sure U watch Oil pressure. When I was 15 (1972) My dad got me a 1968 Lemans with a non running 350. The timing gear looked like that. Rebuilt the motor myself & it fired right up. ran just a few minutes & started to seize. all those little pieces were in the oil pump pick up. Was a new pump. I had cleaned it but obviously not well enough. Was thinking they actually made their way into the pump & broke the drive but don't remember. expensive lesson.

Don’t forget to do the a jax down the carburetor several times that will help bring compression back slowly by reseating the rings. Remember when people did that in the 50s on the chebbys. I’ve done it on several motors that smoked really bad and it definitely works

UK. My first car was a 1937 Morris 8 around 930cc and 22 BHP. I fitted something better with an Arnot supercharger. More or less the same engine but a bit later. I could out pull a Mini and outrun it. Morris 8 55mph as new, Oh My God at 80 it was lethal. The steering was like new but not at 80. I broke 3 half shafts in the back axle until I found some better ones from an MG. I did 240 miles in just under 4 hours and on pre motorway UK roads that isn't bad today. Love your videos, money ain't everything.

Changed a timing chain and cover on a 68 chevy pickuo that was so loose it ate the bottom of the timing chain cover from 3 o clock to 9 o clock. I took the chain off the gears without taking the cam gear off. How the hell that thing was still running i have no idea. This was a daily driver that belonged to a friend. He drove it to work everyday. Everyday he would put 3-4 quarts of oil in it. After a few months of this i finally asked him why dont you just fix the oil leak its probaly the front seal. He said i dont know how. I said bring it to my house, you buy the beer. Couple hours later and a 12 pack, no more oil leak. Drove it till he sold it years later.

Good work, doing the same on my 87' small block shortly... suspecting this exact thing. How about wrenching on the 51' (I think you mentioned another in the shed). Full custom on this and maybe a roadsteration close to stock on that one. The steering pretty hookie on this one for sure... the next project is steering (and go with power). Quite an eclectic selection of parts... keep it up. Amazing job on the 75 as well... floored when trans actually worked... though you were pretty thorough. Keep wrenchin'!... the watches and subscribers will come...

As you took off I noticed that the old steering box is bad worn an if a guy tries to tighten the nut on the adjuster... fixes the worn part in the middle of the worm but the ends get right too tight to make for decent steering. I did something your probably not even going to consider but I just went to a wrecking yard and found a power steering box on a car that I made a plate and adapted it to the side of the frame... that part was easier than getting a good steering rod to go the linkage on the axle and get it all hooked up... warning will robinson... lots of welding rod plus a cuss word or three may have been involved. Once done tho, it was so worth it as it was one finger and just plain dependable... I think it was a old amc jeepster looking thing I got the box off of but can't swear to it as its been more years than five dogs live...

When you are pulling cars or trucks out with no brakes run your chane through a pice of pipe six or so foot long. Then you can stop them with it also you can push with it. Your brakes will stop the car or truck. A heavy iron pipe not muffler tubing. Be safe. I am 85yr have done what your doing for years also.
