    Paul McCartney… the man knows how to get songs to the top of the charts. I was floored when I found out Peter & Gordon’s #1 hit “World Without Love” was written for them by Paul as well.

      It was given to them rather written for them. Paul had written it earlier and hadn't used it as John Lennon kept laughing at the "Please, lock me away." line.

    Badfinger also got their name from Paul McCartney and John Lennon (in a roundabout way). John and Paul's song "With A Little Help From My Friends" that was sung by Ringo Starr on the Sgt. Pepper LP had a working title of "Badfinger Boogie". John had hurt his forefinger and was playing the piano keys using his middle finger in place of his forefinger. The boys liked the sound of "Badfinger" to replace their current name "The Ivey's" and the name was born.

      Buffalobraves9,it was just John lennon who got the name badfinger for the ivys in a sarcastic way.he didn't want to work with them.but George did and Paul.badfinger played with George on stage and Ritchie.

    Originally, Paul went in early before a Beatles session and recorded all the parts himself on the demo. There is some bootlegs of that demo here on Utube. Badfinger did a great job with it. I loved that song when i was a kid when it came out. Paul was actually making fun of Allen Klein always telling the Beatles he (allen) could get them money or something they wanted for nothing. Of course, Paul was subtle about that kind of thing where John would have flayed the dude wide open with a composition.

The Iveys were obviously much more comfortable taking direction from Paul than John and George, as the film "Let It Be" shows.

    • @Kieop
      @Kieop 2 роки тому +3

      Yes, there were a lot of takes, which would make people think Paul is being a perfectionist, but half-way through, he tells them that it would be better if they just fuck it. ie they need to loosen up and stop trying to copy the demo too closely. Plus he stopped the takes when HE fucked up, not to correct them.

    Bad Finger turned down "It Don't Come Easy" because they thought they had grown out of accepting songs from Beatles, and wanted to be successful with their own songs. In the music business, if someone offers you a number one hit, you take it. Bad decision on Badfingers part.

      Just like the Beatles turned down How Do You Do It, a number one hit for Gerry and the Pacemakers. George Martin insisted the boys record the song and the lads resisted as it wasn't their style and insisted that they could write a hit song as well or better. Thus Please Please Me was the Beatle's first number one.

      @@vinceboston7451 They told George Martin it was rubbish. "We can't go back to Liverpool with that". George said, "ok you write one better" and they did.
      However, it didn't get to number 1 on all the charts, which is why it isn't included on the number ones compilation album, titled 1.

    As mentioned towards the end of this video, Paul slowed it down a bit. Their voices sounding nothing like the record unless slowed at least a half step, sounds more like a full step to me. Obviously a homerun for the band!

    Toms voice is gold - with that hair and those sexy eyes. His songwriting and with Pete Ham who really should have stuck it out was magical. Their Without you song would keep them in guitar strings once Mariah Carey had a blockbuster with it. A permanent solution to a temporary problem - never the best way out. Artists though huh!

    Very interesting. Paul pushing the band (or micro-managing, as he was wont to do with his own band), and the Iveys were obviously nervous.
