      Hey Jeff. Thanks for the great video!! I had some other questions.
      Was there an option to reverse the direction of the fan?
      If the light burnt out was there a way to replace it?

    • @DoremiFasolatido1979
      @DoremiFasolatido1979 Рік тому +3

      @@doughankins3996 I doubt it can be reversed. The motor has to spin opposite the direction of the motion to screw it into the socket, or the torque from the fan could loosen it and cause the fan to fall out of the socket. As it is, it should instead tighten into the socket as a result. And since the blades cannot be flipped, the flow can't be reversed by doing so, either. Which is unfortunate, because an option to flip the blades to draw air up instead would be good.
      That said, it's possible to perhaps put this into the top of a tall floor lamp. In which case it could then pull air upward instead of blowing it downward. But, it would be a bit janky to do so.
      And he said in the video that there's no way to replace the LEDs inside it. Which, for me is the real problem. 50 bucks, and it's worthless once the LEDs go out? Either they'd best be some decades-long bulbs, or there'd better be a hell of a warranty. If that were the case, then it might actually be worth it.

    I think it's a really cool product especially if your renting because you can just unscrew it and go to the next place. The $50 price seems a little high but NO complicated installation is required or wiring needed to add a fan to a room - some people do NOT want to try to install a full ceiling fan due to the wiring. The other thing missing from this product is the reverse feature that every standard ceiling fan offers for winter time air circulation! Still overall I think it's a good product based on this video.

    They had something similar back in the late 80's called a socket fan. Was just a small three bladed fan that screwed into a light socket just like this fan. And it was only $5.00. Nice to see this come back with a light, but the price is way too high for what it is. I think you are right, about $25 - $30 is a fair price. Not $50- $60

    Perfect for Bathroom, laundry room, walk in closet. Keep in mind a regular 16" fan is already $25+, so for this including a remote, lighting the room brightly , saving you floor space, saving you can installation, allowing a fan in a tough install location, etc, $50 I think is fair, and Jeff even says he's surprised with both the light and air this produces.

    I would pay $50 for this. It provides all the functionality I need, and you can't beat the ease of installation. A single socket is much easier to install than a traditional fanlight.

    I saw a different model similar to this fan at Menards, and was considering it. Im hesitating at buying one, because the unit i saw, requires a fixture that can support 300 watts or higher, as it requires a fixture that is equivalent to 300 watts. For traditional incandescent light bulbs, the highest i saw for regular fixtures was a 3 way bulb, with 150 watts at the highest setting. 2 of my floor lamps are 3 way fixtues, and support at the highest setting, 150 watts. Thats what is preventing me from buying one right now.

    • @rupe53
      @rupe53 Рік тому +3

      that 150 watt rating is for heat that an old fashion bulb might create. The wiring behind that socket will handle quite a bit more and the circuit will be at least 15 amps.

    Interesting product. As an electrician, since there doesn't appear to be any way to "secure" the device, other than by tightening it in the screw shell of the socket, my only concern would be the possibility that vibration over time may cause the fan and or the extension to in fact unscrew itself from the keyless socket or the like. Surely, the directions warn the buyer to periodically check the tightness of the fan stem, especially at higher ceiling applications. Nothing like having a whirling 2 pound anvil come flying out of the ceiling. 😮 Ouch!

    About 25 years ago I picked up my contractor who I worked with. He threw out one of these when we finish the project will be doing.. It worked it I small about 6inch blade it was vibrating a little too much, l feared it could probably losen enough to fly out of the socket.. some sockets are connected to the end of a say 3" hollow tube with threads at the end to screw into the base of the square junction box in the ceiling. . there are other single light sockets that are grommented to a 1 1/4 wide cross bar that gets screwed into the junction box in the ceiling we're all the bx cable wires go into it from the sides and then comes down in the on the Square junction where you can connect a single socket for multiple light fixture.. hoping this Bell & Howell fan is screwed in the opposite direction to where the fan will be spinning thick with the vibration it might very well unscrew itself from the socket. If that happens will be an identified flying object coming down on you. Jeff could your test this and see if the fan is spinnning in the same direction where's unscrew itself?
