  • We also install a 13900kf and CPU frame! Today we are unboxing the new Asus Maximus Z790 Hero Motherboard, brief overview and what I don't like about the board. Also if I think this board is worth the money. We compare performance results with the old 10900k on a Z490 board. Here is a link to the CPU frame used www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZXZNLNH?... there are several different options and I will go into detail on why we chose this product in our future content.

      Very nice choice on the CPU cooler. I have been able to cool the same processor on a 240mm AIO sufficiently as well. It is a power hungry processor but some good thermal paste and a CPU frame helps a lot!

    I bought the Hero and a 13900K at launch. The Apex wasn't in stock and it was stupidly expensive but I would probably have bought it if available. I can easily get over 40000 in R23 with a very average SP98 13900K on custom loop. The Hero is very good for overclocking and the Apex only really wins for memory speed overclocks because of the extra signal layer and only 2 dimm slots. 14th gen will use the same socket so I plan to wait for a 14900KS to upgrade. Pity you didn't have a 4090 to test with. Huge difference!

    • @bricktronics
      @bricktronics  7 місяців тому

      The 14th gen is still rumored to be a lga 1851 socket, if true, will require a different motherboard. And yeah it would have been nice to have a 4090 at the time of this video but they were almost non-existent and super expensive back when.

    • @ColinDyckes
      @ColinDyckes 7 місяців тому

      @@bricktronics Everything I have read from the usually reliable leak sources says that Raptor Lake Refresh (14th gen) is lga1700 socket compatible and will only need a BIOS update, and even then probably only for the 8+12 core part. 15th gen will switch to lga1851. We'll soon know 🙂

    • @bricktronics
      @bricktronics  7 місяців тому

      @ColinDyckes I mean, Google 14th gen socket type...evert source I look at claims lga 1851, besides I haven't seen Intel keep a socket for more than 2 generations in a row but everything is just rumor for now. It's also a much different chip that even has integrated wifi, ai bs, a vpu, double stacked, overall just new chip design from what the rumors show.

    • @bricktronics
      @bricktronics  7 місяців тому +1

      @ColinDyckes but honestly I just read one source that said it will be lga 1700. Every other source says otherwise....we shall see. Either way, 14th gen ultra chips are going to be dope af!

    • @ColinDyckes
      @ColinDyckes 7 місяців тому

      @@bricktronics I think there is confusion about what 14th gen actually is. Most reports are that it is Raptor Lake Refresh and lga1700 compatible. Others mention Core Ultra and lower power which I actually believe is 15th gen and starting with laptop chips and to be announced in December. We'll see 🙂

    just building mine at the moment! love the board. Im going with a i9 14900k + Palit midnight kaleidoscope RTX 4090 + Vengeance 192GB quad Ram kit+ in combination "for first" a NH D15 but considering to go for proper watercooling soon. Hope the 4k/6k editing will finaly work well soon. I have a question about how many ssd’s(samsung 990 pro) the Motherboard can have. And I have seen a comment below regarding on the best cpu, what is the difference between k and kf I know what it means but in performance isn’t k slower because it waist space for the integrated graphics and kf be better due to it having more space and have a better thermal performance. I just need a clarification because I am lost so the help would be nice.

    • @bricktronics
      @bricktronics  5 місяців тому

      I believe there are 4 m.2 slots on the board....maybe 2...I don't remember, but it's in this video. As far as k and kf, I usually buy just the k. They do perform marginally better. I always score higher on benchmark tests than kf chips. Power distribution in the cpu is different, more stuff in a small space could also lead to higher thermals. I haven't tested thermal differences so I can't say for sure there.

    Not a fan of this board, it has a major flaw, in that you will never be able to use a gen 5 ssd with it. It only supports it with the gen 5 ssd in the hyper card which has to go into pcie 5 #2 slot, the problem is that most of the large gpus today block anything from being put in that slot when you have the gpu installed in the pcie #1 slot.

    • @bricktronics

      I agree, and good point. That is a big flaw that you would think a $700 plus board wouldn't have. Which is my biggest complaint honestly, the price just isn't worth the features it does have. But hey, it has quick releases on the pci slots, lol. I am watching a video right now from Gamers Nexus with him going on a big rant with board prices per features. My personal thoughts are, anytime you fill up all 4 dimm slots you run the risk of stability issues and always because of the motherboard. As not all CPUs are created equal, some memory controllers just may not like the voltages and frequencies while running
      "quad channel"....so some tweaking may be required. I have gotten lucky in the past, I also primarily use g.skill ram which I believe is the better of choices available.

      Not that I'm aware of, when I go that size I usually run a 32x2 configuration....as much as I like seeing all slots filled up. If all slots are filled up, I highly recommend them being the same lot number. Basically, buy them in a set of 4 and don't mix 2 different sets of ram.

    Yes... I do agree with most of the video, but the part of "z790 Apex" better than Hero? That in my case made me doubt of your expertise in this subject.
    Apex is less usable in normal conditions today than Hero is. Then you go straight to "Overclocking memory" like if this is the "normal" daily average thing ppl need.
    The last thing you tweak to overclock your machine is the RAM, because is the less noticeable result. Apex has Thunderbolt 4? no, Hero has.... Apex ready for PCIe 5.0 ? not for expansion only a graphic card. Less storage Less of all, Not wonder why in the world APEX z790 is disregarded and always in stock and sometimes even cheaper cuz nobody wants it.
    Yeah is not about hating, at least be thankful ( That you are a new guy on youtube and when you guys get a little bit of fame you won't care anymore) that I went through the whole 10 min video, but after the APEX thing, is hard for me to subscribe, maybe you gonna lie to me again thinking that you know more.
    Hey maybe I'm wrong and you are one of the few people in comparison with thousand that found APEX is better than a HERO for anything, And yes I also notice how "vague" your statement is regarding to the comparison so you can excuse yourself if you mess up with: "Well In certain determinate areas of specific purposes the Apex would be better than HERO"
    Don't be vague on a "technical review" makes you look really bad. But hey, there are all kind of followers I bet you will find the right niche.

      Hey bud, I appreciate the feedback for real and thanks for watching the video. Totally understand where you would disagree about the Apex, how I should have worded it was "if you care to do extreme ram overclocking the Apex board is a better option."
      As for ram overclocking, I might be out of touch here a little but I have personally seen very noticeable improvements in gaming and day to day tasks after tweaking.
      Thanks again for your feedback, yeah I'm pretty new at making content but I'll do some better research and work on better scripting.

      @@bricktronics Just with the answer you deserve a subscribe, Lets hope you make it better and improve this certain things, at the end my critic was for your Success ... I like watching content of people that do review in technical and other aspects, but I always reject those who impose the "I believe" system without proof.
      Yes I agree with you with OVclk ram, but is not what normal ppl do, they do activate XMP and that's it, lets not call overclocking to that. Marginal with extreme overclocking are 3 or 4 maybe 5 fps depends of the game.
      and if is XMP 2.0 marginal 2 fps.
      Either way, good job. I enjoyed the video if not I wouldn't watch the whole 10 min. And now Ill subscribe because you have a nice personality.

      @@Sc0rphionx the most I've gained was 11 fps in fh5 with just memory overclocking but it was real expensive memory, a lot of blue screens, and too much time invested. It was fun but faster and easier to undervolt/overclock my gpu
