  • The Nikon SB500 is a really nice little pocket flash to pair with the Nikon ZF. And this Tamron 28-75mm was great. It performed well on the zf.
I put the link for the reflector under lighting

Inspirational video and beautiful photos as always. I had to order a 5in1 30cm reflector after watching it because I love the look on the photos 😀

That should be an even better option and easier to aim.

Fantastic idea the coffee shop had! It's like having hundreds of potential free social media / advertising for the business.

This was pretty nice, the whole thing!
The mutual marketing, the model, the outfits, the gear, and of couuurse, the photographer. 🫡
Myself, I'm always debating what style to shoot subjects with.
Seeing someone else demonstrating different styles is always a godsend for me - a very welcomed refresher; it sets my neurons straight. 😊

Theme and concept for the coffee shop is really smart. It reminds me of Disney World's Purple Wall. It's "The" photo to have (for those that this is important) and it keeps Disney content flowing. Any business wants people to talk about their business.

I use the Nikon 28-75 on a regular basis. I have been very happy to walk around with it. It is a nice all around lens.

Thank you. I avoid flash because I've never got it right, and stick with natural light - this is the sort of technique i can really use.

Thank you so much for extolling the virtues of the SB500. I've used mine for years very much like you have here. It makes for an incredible flash when travelling and you want/need just a bit of extra light on your subject.

What really surprised me is those batteries holding out for the entire shoot!

Your videos showing how you use on-camera flash are great. Thanks for sharing. Love the results. I saw in another one of your videos that you use the Godox V350, I don't know if you have it for the Nikon Z and how it feels mounted on the Zf for an hour or so of shooting. In the outdoor shots I understand you are not using HSS, just normal flash sync speed (maybe 1/200 ?).

I believe it was 1/200. I love the V350 but updating it (Nikon version) impossible. Tried 2 - same results.

Great results. Especially that one at 5:18. I’m considering this lens as a lighter travel option.

For the grip 'problem', smallrig makes some great grip extenders/L Shaped handles that work very well for around 40/50 dollars

That’s fair, but it really is just a harsher light vs a softer one.

The Nikkor 24-70mm f4 is an amazing lens (not expensive) Is amazing for just what You did here.. 2.8 to f4 is minuscule ... But 24mm on the wide end is huge (especially for events) - that said 70mm-75 is not so much ..... Oh by the way the Nikkor 24-120mm Is AMAZING for so many use cases!!!!!!!! Thanks Again always enjoy Your "food for thought" videos :) :) :)

I have a similar setup only using the Godox TT350 and Nikon 24-70 f4. I can't do the one hand holding like you do, but use a cheap reflector that attaches to the flash or the diffuser over the flash. I also have found the Nikon SB400 to wonderful for battery length but no bouncing capablity. Enjoyed the video, would interested to see how the new Godox Lux Master would have handled this session... Thanks as always...

I always look forward to your videos. They’re not too long, but they’re very informative. I only wish you could have provided a little more information about your settings (ISO, Flash Strength, etc.).

I saw a test with the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Mark 1 vs the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Mark 2 and the Mark 1 had better auto focus in low light. I don't know why but I heard about this before with the Panasonic 14-140mm Mark 1 vs the Panasonic 14-140mm Mark 2. Don't know if its has something about maybe better coatings for contrast and backlit images maybe the T stop got changed?

it's cheaper, lighter and smaller than the 24-70/2.8 and sharper at f2.8 than the 24-70/4 so that's something.

On camera flash? Is that considered blasphemy of some kind? 😂. Shot many weddings and events with an SB700 on camera flash with great results.

I can’t say a word on that! When I was young (the 80s) I used the most expensive flash brackets they made to get the flash off the camera! 😂

Aha! Yes, it is heresy! We should all be carrying around bags of stands and strobes, yell at everyone to just wait while we set up and then blame the poor ambient conditions or our gear.
