I like how you said if it’s a lens that you need and aren’t concerned about the edges, then this lens is for you. I like how you feel like this lens is a good general work horse to get the shots you need!

I LOVE that you showed pictures from this camera and focused on those, instead of a side by side comparison! Like you said - if the pictures look good then that's what matters! I don't need to over-think and second-guess my descission. That's what everone elses videos are for!

I've owned the Tamron off and on over two decades and while there was some sample variation, it was a solid lens each time. This last one I've kept the longest because it's the sharpest so far. Will definitely look for this Nikon version eventually.

Great review . I generally shoot with Canon and I am a event and portrait shooter. Recently had to rent equipment and rented a z9 with this lens. Perfect and powerful kit. Quick focus, sharp rendering and colors. Nikon shooters got nothing to complain about. Plus really good value. You get the critical focal length. Excellent practical review keep doing your thing👍🏽

Great review! Nice real world use examples and practical guidance about where the value of this lens can be found. For people looking for a high quality, fully compatible, Z lens with the flexibility f2.8 allows for half the cost of an S Line 24-70 f2.8, it is excellent value. The S Line f2.8 lens pricing is consistent with what it delivers (and its competitors), but many viewers of the images produced will not be able to tell the difference. it is interesting to me so many early "observers" stated they were confused about Nikon's decision to release a lens like this. For anyone getting started with putting together a fully functional system camera kit, it reinforces the already high "value for money" characteristic of the Z system. An excellent marketing decision.

I just got this because though I could afford the 24-70 2.8, I just couldn't justify the price premium because I don't use that range often enough. To add to your review: it also works good (enough) for low light live work, shooting a small stage in a club with very mediocre lighting. It's not going to be the best lens ever, but certainly not the worst either. Absolutely totally completely agree with your view 'if it gets the job done and fits your budget, it's the right lens'. Excellent review!

I love the lens- my go-to in the studio. Honestly for fashion/portrait I rarely shoot at 24mm- too much distortion (and if I want to go wide for perspective effects then I head to my 17-35 anyway ... 24 isn't wide enough!) And having 75mm at the long end means I feel less need for my 85. This lens focuses fast and close so I and my models can move freely as I shoot too. Great 'bargain' Len!!

  • @M_Olive

Honestly, this was an amazing video. Being predominantly a fashion and portrait photographer whenever I'm looking for new gear it gets frustrating sitting through hundreds of videos talking about corner sharpness and how it compares to top of the line gear when pixel peeping. But you actually showing a real world scenario and how this lens applies to your work was just what I needed. Not having the money atm to afford the 24-70 f/2.8 but needing a fast lens for my work (this includes concerts) I've been considering getting the tamron 24-70 or this one but just the fact it's native is making me sway into the 28-75 direction. Also thank you for supplying your raw files!

Awwww man... thank you for doing this Ike... the 2k on the 24-70 S 2.8 is heartbreaking... I am definitely sold on this lenses. Since switching to the Z mount and moving to the S lenses I kinda miss the feel of the Tamron 24-70 G2 2.8 on my D750. So I'm really glad about this. The Tamron doesn't perform as well adapted on the Z mount as it did on the F and there's a noticeable lag when shooting with is as compared to the S-Line lenses I have. However, I too was skeptical about this lenses after all the initial naysaying. So again, thanks for this and doing it in your usual Ike-ish way. ✌️ ✌️ ✌️

This is what I wanted to hear. I have used the 24-70 2.8 S and it had some issues on my Z6II. This is a more affordable option for me since I do photography on the side and it's not my main hustle. I can see this having a wide rage of uses on my next trip or family photo shoot. Keep striving!

@Ravin Chandra hey Ravin! I don't know if the issue was camera or lens related, but the 28-70S would have this strange blur around the subject. Not bokeh, but a weird look too it. The camera works well with every other lens except that one. Hope this helps.

Just a great lens, I have used it in quite a few indoor sporting events with poor lighting and my shots have come out great every time. I honestly don't know why you would spend the extra $1000 on the S lens 24-70 f2.8 when this fills the gap.

    Hello Ike,
I really liked your review! You were straight to the point and this is all out of the field experience with no pixel peeping. I am thinking about getting a 2.8 standard zoom for dark venue events, because my Z6II is struggling with lowlight focusing on f4 (I am using 24-120 for most of my stuff, paired with 70-200). I am torn between getting an used 24-70g lens, getting this one or maybe getting a prime, although for business events zooms are much more handy. I have used 35mm z lens on the dance floor once, and I was amazed how good the focusing is on the Z6II is!
Anyhow thanks for the review, I think I am one step closer to making a decision. I am sure that 24-70s lens is the best there is, but for that price I could get a couple of lenses...
    Best regards!

Get the 28-75. The reason I say that is because I’d rather buy native Z mount lenses as much as possible. If I can avoid using an adapter then I’m all for it.

I'm researching this lens to see if it renders 45mp fine... and from what I've been able to find out, Nikon outsources the manufacturing to Tamron. However, Nikon provides glass and electronics. So in the end it's a little of both it's a tamron and a nikon lens.

#Photo-Me-Ike How do you rate this lens. Is it worth, for example, to sell the 35mm and 50mm S and buy this one zoom?

    • @Photomeike
      @Photomeike  Рік тому

You that is more of a creative decision than a quality one in my opinion. If you only do portraits and don’t shoot weddings or events. Then I think the 35 and 50 primes are cool to keep. But if you also shoot events and weddings then the 28-75 will provide a lot more utility IMO.
