I've always loved the direct flash look for some reason.

My instructors at the former Brooks Institute of Photography would have let the shadows be a reshoot, lol, but the fill flash on the pocket flash are perfect, that combo is perfection!

😂😂 reshoot for shadows cracks me up but understood. I love shadow as much as light. But… this combo is great to save yourself from a reshoot. It is a lot of fun and no stress of big gear to haul around. Thank you for sharing.

Love the results. Never even considered the V360 as a serious flash.

It is a great little flash. I’d consider the Flashpoint version from Adorama so you can get service and support

You’re really winning me over to direct flash. Liking that look more and more with each example you share.
I didn’t think a small flash like the V350 could do much in bright sunny conditions like in the video. Other photography UA-camrs keep saying you need 400, 600 watt seconds or more.
Really nice to not have to carry a big light, softbox and light stand around. Can carry a lightweight setup in a small bag. Or just a camera on a strap and a flash in your pocket.
What are some tips on how you make the most of the small flash and avoid competing with the sun? It’s a recurring message of yours, and could be a good future video.

I start low on the flash and just turn up the power to get the full as natural looking as possible. In HSS mode it’s a bit higher than I would like (sucks battery life) but it’s easier to carry two small batteries than a big monolight

Style question... I meant to ask in a previous video... using the 40mm on the full frame, better - worse - just different? I use the 40mm on my Z50 to get 60mm out of it. I like that extra 10mm, and I have actually never used the 40 on my Z5's. There was a photographer in 70's (can't remember his name) that did a lot using the flash the way you are showing. In fact there is even a small bracket, Custom Brackets CB Mini-RC Bracket, that lends itself to this style!

I love the 40mm because it gives me that little extra from the 35 and is close enough to the 50 I’m used to.

The shots at 1/500s were with auto FP high-speed sync? I didn't know that trigger and flash supported that. Nice.

That’s one thing that surprised me too. It does work well in HSS mode.

@@kaskoPhoto worth pointing out specifically in one of your videos on that setup!

How are you getting those shutter speeds? Is that tiny flash capable of high speed sync at the distances you're shooting from?

Nice video and images. I always wonder what the 3rd party lenses bring, creatively. They may generate clicks and views, but what else? At about 2:29 I see glare [1] from the highlights into the contrasty darker zones.
Have you tried Nikon's "S" class primes? If you need reflective artefacts in the frame, these may frustrate you because they are so good that it is hard to get the artefacts.
[1] "Glare" in my book is a form of reflection inside a lens between glass/air or air/glass surfaces (and that can happen inside a single element between its surfaces). It reduces contrast and does not have a specific shape. In many cases, it happens across the entire image and some post-processing option may reduce it (clarity? sharpening?, etc.).
"Flare" then is the shaped variant of sun-trails, aperture trails, aperture stars, etc.

Yes I use S glass. Was playing with the TTartisan. When I want perfection I use my Voigtlander APO 50. This was about a light weight run and gun setup.

How does the Z f do with eye-recognition and 3D tracking? With AF lenses, do you use that? Does it change the shoot of, and interaction with, the model for you?
In this sense, the Z 8 is the first camera that puts a smile on my face, since the Nikon F2 in 1975 (when I shot portraits professionally with Hasselblad, and other things with large format 4"*5" or 8"*10"). Photographer-direction was the norm, way back, but 3D tracking now adds incredibly reliable recomposition follow focus AF and subject AF.
In your short videos, maybe spend a few takes on this, if only as entertainment?

As a Leica M shooter, the autofocus is incredible to me. I really haven’t missed a shot concerning eye focus

Aside in the Nycon/Neekon chapter: the "Go Dogs" company in its Chinese name (two characters) is called "god" "ox" and that's what they put on the devices. I guess this is a mistranslation of these characters that in every day Chinese likely mean something like "holy" "cow".
Make that politically correct. The Japanse, at home, say Neecon but when, in the USA, you ask these people how pronounce their brand name, they'll say Nycon. Why? Because in their culture, etiquette, it is impolite to contradict or say no to a foreigner.
When in Tokyo you ask a Japanese, pointing North, is that the way to grand central station? While it is South, they will always say yes. But reading their body language you might know that you asked the wrong question and hence got the wrong answer.
Being able to put English words into sequence to make them come across like a sentence does not mean we are communicating.
