what mark proceeds to explain from 27:16, I feel like MOST of his new special lacked that understanding, yet here he is pinpointing exactly and more eloquently what my gripe has been with his latest special. I felt bad thinking this the first time, and feel bad writing it aswell, but I do so being 100% convinced Mark is the next great thing for stand up. Nobody works harder than this guy and nobody loves the game as much.
I really like how marks the only high caliber comedian who’s giving us the behind the scene look at stand up nuances and finer details, he thinks it’s boring but for a lover of comedy & I would even assume a casual fan it’s really interesting & great to hear! Also I like that mark really seems to care and give Sean advice as a new comic rising, almost like he’s the voice or seasoned comic he would of liked to hear give positive feedback when he was just starting out, really cool!
Love that you keep this series going! I feel like this type of interview will take traction over time rather than instantly. Definitely has replay-ability for people interested in both Normand, you, and the joke-writing process overall. Got a lot of things going on in this style of podcast, keep it up mate!
THE PEOPLE HAVE CONTINUOSLY SHOWED SUPPORT FOR THIS SERIES AND I PRAY TO EVERY GOD THAT EXISTS THAT YOU KEEP BRINGING THESE VIDEOS WITH MARK NORMAND BACK!!! LETS GOOO SEAN!!!
I've been wanting a podcast like this for years!!! You need to keep doing this with other comedians as well! This will be huge. I've been wanting to do standup for years but I have so many premises that flow through my head that I just don't have the experience or confidence to turn into stage work. Just hearing you guys talk about the different ways to approach a joke and transform it into something that works on stage. Stories vs short jokes, etc.. So many young aspiring comedians could use this
1. The word Abolishinest is funny 2. The beyond meat for slave would probably be robots/AI 3. Maybe do a pescatarion angle 4. Vegans don't eat things with faces
I love how the first joke killed and the second joke kinda sorta bombed (not exactly, but did a lot worse than the first bit). Kinda shows it can go both ways, even though both jokes were funny in the room.
I use to be a hater for no reason of some comedians. I look back on that and I was just a really anger person. I feel bad about it , but it’s a part of growing
Awesome video! As a beginner comic, this helps so much, way more than any writing book! Would love to see you do a series of these kinds of videos with different comics
Not to be the dork who picks apart the Anne Frank joke but…..there was a fair amount of very personal stuff in there that has been omitted for publication. Don’t abandon the bit, because virtually no one knows about this, but yes, it was in fact a pre-teen girl’s diary.
Mark Normand has the best behind the jokes commentary of all time. I'd pay to listen to that dude do a set then also another one to hear him talk about how he developed it. The juxtaposition of a comedian whose whole life goal, their entire life essence, going into making other people feel something --- and being hurt about it not being successful seems like the deepest possible human tragedy. The 5 muses, and the muse of tragedy has been dominant on current society for years. Comedians bring Thalia 😅 Comedy is the final boss of all the creative arts.
RE: Ann Frank. Something that came to my mind right away were how some people find the boston bomber/mass shooters attractive and side with them. Idk just made me think of it.
loved this! Chappelle had a bit about banging animals too. 'you don't f monkey's and people!'. A new play could be covid tho. He tried to get a hummer from a bat lol
The abolitionists = vegans joke is perfect. Abolitionists were apparently kindve fringe (google: "Radical Republicans") and most supported abolition for economic reasons (like the "free soilers")
32:43 reminded me of my buddies and writing raps and trying to come up with the chorus together! Very cool to watch guys! Not a comedian but that process is a blast! It's fun in the puzzle!
I dont want to be a stand up, I have to much respect for those who have worked years on their craft. I want to do it as a bucket list type thing, I have to do a 5 minute set at least once.
I would raise you Shane Gillis' story about his sister and heroin at an amusement park. Perfect bit to provide context that leads us into a great/hilarious story. That said I get your point!
Sean Millea's like Michael Cera from Scott Pilgrim,...1st Clip,... frizzy hair,.. 2nd clip,.. hair done up,..3rd clip... wears a hat. :D Dude,... love that clip of you asking for help with stong black man shit.
just discovered this channel, cool host and instant sub for how it went with mark. +1 for eye contact though. (gentle suggestion) get rid of the table and fix the seating arrangement so you can make eye contact without straining your necks
This is incredible. The conversation is productive, respectful, smart. I like what Mark said at one point that jokes have to have a point and a direction: for example what the guy in the New Zealand show said was funny and Mark wanted to expand it but from what angle and what point he is making.? The way you both shared ideas about each other's bits was very good; smart. Finally the bit about veganism and slavery and all ideas that were shared around it have a huge potential if crafted right. Smart and funny. Off course this video is three months ago so maybe you have done some progress into it or got rid of it I don't know.
All i can think about is if Bert Kreischer was on this show, interrupting the whole time LOL. I heard Mark say " oh sorry" when he ALMOST interrupted and I immediately thought of that
I've been trying to do parody and man it's so weird how comedy generally doesn't have that much "how to" content online. it gives it this veneer of mysticism or magic until you come across comedians who treat it technically, they really shine a light on the humanity behind the artform.
You could honestly bridge the fucking animals bit with the vegan thing and guise it as true animal love 😅 "A vegan who truly cares, to the very end" could end uo feeling like some Bones N All level disturbing humour tho
this duo is so perfect. You guys bounce off of each other so well
thanks!

These joke writing sessions are excellent. I hope once a year these two get together. Thank you.
My favorite thing on the internet, thank you for this, as a comedian it brings so much advice and its fun to follow along! Much love from Canada!

Well said, 100 percent!
Mark dropping wisdom left right and centre
I love these videos, they have actually been so insightful for my own joke writing, unbelievably helpful, Thank You very much
I've watched the first two multiple times can't wait to watch this one, thank you!
heck yeah!!
Love the Joke WRLD sticker 🤝 great video!
Honored to have you in the mix!! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
You two have great conversational energy together. Great material advice from you guys

Dude Anne frank thinking hitler is kinda cute is hilarious
Watching Mark grimace at the end as he soldiers on is everything
I love that Mark uses Game of Thrones as a historical reference.
In the case of the deer, the guy is getting a real bang for his buck
As a huge comedy nerd this convo is blowing my mind , please keep doing these 🤝
I love how genuine this conversation is. Great episode!
1. The word Abolishinest is funny

3. Maybe do a pescatarion angle
4. Vegans don't eat things with faces
Oh.... Mark got there after I typed it.
Awesome podcast, thank you guys! Hoping to see Mark live someday
up for the mark normand fansss - i didn't understand this video when it came out last year but now i love these, so lucky to workshop together
This was great! I love hearing details about the process and joke writing, Normand is a champion and a dreamer🤌🤌🤌
It's really cool to see all the thought that you guys put into a single joke, you guys are good at what you do.
I saw Mark do the Anne Frank bit in Davenport and it killed. Definitely worth keeping.
Love this!!! It motivates me to start writing my first material! Keep doing these videos!
cant wait to hear it!
Just found this. Amazing to hear how a comedian comes up with a joke!
"With stand-up is just *clap clap clap* *buuuurp* gotta keep going!"
-Kevin Hart, gay comedian, 2023
Normand's performance at the end was gold!
I love how the first joke killed and the second joke kinda sorta bombed (not exactly, but did a lot worse than the first bit). Kinda shows it can go both ways, even though both jokes were funny in the room.
Bert didn't sell out the arena! Mark's being nice 😊
I love these. Please do more. Thanks man!
Let’s go! These are awesome, love you guys’ comedy & videos
Fun seeing this side of both of you. Love these
thank you!

Your welcome
I guess I know you do mushrooms now 😂 Sean’s to funny
This is so cool to see behind the curtain of joke brainstorming. Thanks!

The diary community went from Ann Frank to Wimpy Kid
Love that group of Beatles albums up behind Mark.

Love how normand has to fart or burp or his watch beeps randomly this guy gives no fucks lol
Love me some inside baseball from 2 good comics.
youre getting laid by dinner is the funniest thing ive heard in such a long time
Trying to start writing comedy. Thank you for this
Mark's voice makes me 😂🤣😂
This is great! You guys are talking about things I have been pondering.
As a "project" of a comic I enjoy seing this so much, keep going!
I love Mark. Love him. These videos are great.
Mark abandonding the bit at the end is the funniest part
Not to be the dork who picks apart the Anne Frank joke but…..there was a fair amount of very personal stuff in there that has been omitted for publication. Don’t abandon the bit, because virtually no one knows about this, but yes, it was in fact a pre-teen girl’s diary.

Love these, almost been a year now. Time for part 5?
RE: Ann Frank. Something that came to my mind right away were how some people find the boston bomber/mass shooters attractive and side with them. Idk just made me think of it.
Nice job.
Being in the same room with one of the best comics of all time makes u funnier by osmosis.
U lucky bastard.✌🏾
Maybe to finish off the bit! assuming you go down anna franks diary being sexual! You could say, it actually made me miss her!
Wow, it was so nice to see Mark do them and kill at the end. Good shit.
Gives new meaning to the phrase "nose to tail"
I love “maybe that’s how the weekend started” 😂
loved this! Chappelle had a bit about banging animals too. 'you don't f monkey's and people!'. A new play could be covid tho. He tried to get a hummer from a bat lol

wow! Thank you!!
@@SeanMillea welcome! You guys are hilarious! Beers on me if you’re ever in Chitown! 🤘🏻
Stories are the lowest form of joke telling. Not to say they're bad, they're just basic. Especially if you just straight up lie like Bert does.
I would raise you Shane Gillis' story about his sister and heroin at an amusement park. Perfect bit to provide context that leads us into a great/hilarious story. That said I get your point!
There WAS sexual thoughts and desires in anne Frank's diary

I'm not a stand up, but I'm a TV producer and when Mark said "you got 6 minutes right there" I totally understood what standups go through...
dude you missed to incorporate Black friday into the vegan slavary bit
Right on thanks for this
Two of the funniest voices in comedy 😉
just discovered this channel, cool host and instant sub for how it went with mark. +1 for eye contact though. (gentle suggestion) get rid of the table and fix the seating arrangement so you can make eye contact without straining your necks
Appreciate this feedback! Thanks man
Mark said some people fuck them and i bursted out laughing and then he said could get a big laugh there. Great timing.
Ive been wanting to collab with other comedians/ content creators but being female makes it so hard to make connections in the comedy world 😅
where are ya located? come do an open mic!
@@SeanMillea I'm in Colorado! I would love to though! Where are you?
Mark will literally do ANY podcast lol
Good podcast. Just a tip for ur audio to put a low pass filter on, your laughs and “P’s” are shaking my subwoofers. Also maybe a bit of compression.
Thanks!
Will do 😎
Regarding the New Zealander:
“He’s glazing his ham and eating it too.” (Like “having his cake and eating it too” plus the double-entendre)
Ashley has an infamous diary.

News flash. Anne Frank didn't right that diary.
I know of you from interviewing Mark. Good to see you guys back at it lol.
This Sean guys good to listen to

Every pod I wish Sean would just turn the set into a Rocky Horror themed set and **really** embrace his look.
Marcus Aurelius wrote a famous diary
So good to see the process
The Anne frank joke was definitely a great bit . You can tell though that the animal fucking one needs a bit more polishing towards the middle and end
That Anne Frank thing was crazy
Clearly Mark never read Anne Frank's diary lmao
Mark Normand is one of the funniest people alive.
Legitimately
He really isn’t.
