They were! I am feeling blessed that I was in Southern California until almost six. We moved to Texas and all hell broke lose. My dad was in the military. I am a product of the 1970s, a interracial couple who listen to rhythm and blues. Living on base there was equality. I didn’t hear the degrading things about race until I was 13. Sly’s outfits, Afros and strong African American men were acceptable. To a point at least. I wonder if rap was invented to stop the development of R&B. I like some rap but you got to admit. There isn’t anyway to develop a JIMI, PRINCE or MJ out of the raps tees.
This song is one of the most inspiring songs of its time and they are still performing it so well especially with his words. It needs to be heard all over the world. I am soooo reposting this on FB and anywhere I can. Thanks for posting it. :D
Brother singing all the parts from Sly, Freddie, to Larry Graham but it something we’ll always remember. Saw them in Tulsa, Oklahoma with my sisters and one of my brothers. It was the Riverfront Casino about 2009. They still rocked the house and got to see Cynthia Robinson playing her trumpet with Jerry playing his sax. Simply incredible.
