there is, I think, a Hitchcock wherein a stock broker (more like a clerk) in the 1950s, steals money, invests it (hides it) then serves his 5 years in jail. (of course) when he gets out, he clues that he has the money, and returns it (the principle), all of it. He's a millionaire on the interest alone. Implicitly he beat the system, and retired early and rich, and even paid his due to society.
Trump is exposing the corruption (by living it) through which anyone who controls 10MM or more can fluff and deflate assets, effectively milking the tax system for enough (unless exposed by journalists) to live quite well and never "work". By work I mean the hard jobs that everyone making under 30k per year endures. Money is everything today, and if the government backs off supporting the working poor through deficits (for as long as wealth remains undertaxed).. capitalism will lose the motivation to produce everything we have and use, and society would collapse. Bloated spending of fiat currency seemed like an OK scheme as long as only business values (P/E ratios etc) continued to expand irrationally. Now we see AI on the horizon, as Private Equity spills into home buying sprees, driving up values to the glee of Boomers who love cruise lines, and the despair of anyone under 30. If big money in 20 years owns all the homes, and 99% of people are renting for life, and social security is all you have to retire on, America will look quite different.
The law exists to keep the poor from eating the rich 😔

Fun fact... Jon sold his New York home for 829% more than its assessed by the local tax district back in 2014. It had been valued at $1.8 million for tax assessment purposes the year before he sold it. This extremely low valuation significantly decreased his property tax and he gained financially as a result. That is the very definition of fraud.
In contrast, nobody was harmed by the valuation of Trumps property since the banks he did business with had to agree with that valuation.
So in summary, Jon is at best a hypocrit. At worst he is a criminal who should be investigated by the New York AG. Oh wait... the Governor said that she dusted that law (that has never been used) off specifically to go after DJT.... so I guess Jon has nothing to worry about.

This from a blue collar worker, who grew up in poverty, spent his life trying to improve himself, and died with over a million dollars in assets. He valued education, and sent me to school so that I could have the opportunity to have a better life than he did. My life has been spent trying to live up to his trust. It’s been hard, but I think I’ve done him (and myself) proud. I know I’ve been privileged. I’ve tried to play this privilege forward. If we don’t, we are validating the concept that you can only get ahead by stepping over those less fortunate than you. We are one here on this planet.
