  • Dr. Matthew Weiner is an author and bariatric surgeon who specializes in the treatment of obesity. His practice is located in Tucson Arizona.
    Dr. Weiner graduated from the University of Michigan medical school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed his general surgery residency at New York University Hospital in New York City. He practiced in suburban Detroit for 12 years before moving to Tucson in 2019 where he, together with Dr. Guillermo Higa, founded Tucson Weight Loss Surgery.
    In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Weiner is the Director of Bariatric Surgery and the Medical Director of Telemedicine at Tucson Medical Center. He is an active member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) and is a past President of the Michigan State chapter a Bariatric Surgeons.
    Dr. Weiner has performed more than 2000 bariatric surgeries since joining his first practice in 2006 and frequently does complicated revision surgery. He also performs general surgery with an interest in stomach and small intestine surgery along with complex hernia repair.
    In his first book, A Pound of Cure, Dr. Weiner debunks the traditional understanding of calorie balance driving weight loss and offers a non-surgical solution to those suffering from obesity through nutritional stability.
    His second book, How Weight Loss Surgery Really Works: And How to Make it Work for You, is now available on Amazon in paperback and kindle. In this book, Dr. Weiner describes how the hormonal changes that alter your brain, fat stores and hunger signals are the most important component of weight loss surgery, rather than the portion control effects that have been emphasized in the past.
    A third publication called The Bariatric Diet Guide And Cookbook is a cookbook for bariatric patients that will offer recipes and guidance on the most effective post-surgical diet. It’s set to be published in May 2021 and is available for pre-order at most online bookstores.
    On his website, www.poundofcureweightloss.com, he offers more than 150 videos on a wide array of nutritional and bariatric topics. Lesson plans range from, “Preparing for Weight Loss Surgery” to “The Metabolic Reset Diet” including recipes and meal plans.
    Dr. Weiner is licensed to practice in both Arizona and Michigan and even offers Telemedicine appointments. For more information call his office at (520) 420-1000 or check out his many resources below. For more videos and Facebook Live events, subscribe to his UA-cam channel.

    My hair is already super thin on top because of PCOS. In pre op stage for gastric bypass. I am taking 10,000 mcg biotin. I have been taking it for three months already. I have been consuming 125-130 grams of protein every day. I have lost 13 lbs so far. I am very worried about hair loss!

    Thank you for all your great info. I appreciate your outlook on nuts, seeds and beans. I got scolded by my nutritionist for eating almonds and sunflower seeds because they were too "fattening"....I just listened to her and then went home and ate more almonds..lol….sometimes the nutritionists know nothing about nutrition. They just push meat on me.

      I love sunflower seeds - can eat a whole bag in one sitting. So my nutritionist just suggested that I eat smaller servings each day.

    I am considering bariatric surgery. What does this do for PCOS patients? I am 35 weigh 243 at 5’5. Been trying to lose weight since I was 19 and ballooned. I’m at my highest weight including during pregnancy 10 years ago. I have GERD and lactose intolerance issues which I didn’t have when I was a good size in childhood. I’m afraid if I have surgery that my hunger will continue to be out of wack... I’m always feeling hungry and my energy really low like it is now. Does surgery help with these issues? What issues or things to think about for people with PCOS?

    I am 4 weeks post op (gastric sleeve) and I already am starting to get a rumble of hunger. But maybe it’s just thirst, I drink and it receives the rumble for a short time, but not for log. I don’t really have much of an appetite though. Would you consider this head hunger?

    I read that people who diet often have a lower metabolic rate than people who have never dieted. Does WLS correct the lowered metobolic rate and are they then "regular" metabolic weight people?

    When you mention beans do they have to be fresh or can you eat beans in the can also?

    • @fatdawny9830
      @fatdawny9830 5 років тому

      You really shouldn't eat anything out of the can. Too much sodium. I bought a small bag of black beans. It just takes a little (a lot) longer for them to cook, but, I can control the sodium. (just my 2 cents)

    Hi Dr. Matthew Weiner, it’s been now 14 years since I had my Gastrin Y R surgery. I’m now gaining my weight back. I no longer could see my feet when I look down. My height is 5,0 my weight now is at 160.. which I used to be 120 my ideal weight. Would I be able to redo the same surgery again???? And if yes what weight do I need to be to get the surgery? Please can you help me!!!! I’m very depressed. I don’t want to climb back to my old weight of 245 pounds. 😪

    So would you recommend reaching your goal weight before getting pregnant? I am one year post op and about 15 pounds away from where I'd like to be but I also may want another baby

    How much weight are you suppose to lose a week after RNY gastric bypass surgery?

    • @apoundofcure
      @apoundofcure  5 років тому

      It's all over the map - often times there's fluid retention from the IV fluids that skews your weight.
