I used to use SoundCloud, but suddenly it stopped working. I was searching something that helps me to record the sound from Mac and I found your video. Thanks man it perfectly worked on my Mac.
You're kinda an idiot, you spent half the video showing how to record your screen when anyone wanting to record their screen with audio would already know how to do this. They would have had to find out their mac didn't record their internal audio for them to find this video..
Thanks for the tutorial. It's actually ridiculous that screen recording with internal audio is this complicated. It should be a selectable built in feature.

If you're like me and already got everything downloaded, setup and working correctly, but still need to keep coming back to this video every time you need to do a screen recording because there's too many steps to remember, here are the steps:
1. Audio MIDI Setup > Screen Record w/Audio
2. System Preferences > Sound > Output > Screen Record w/Audio
3. Quicktime > New Screen Recording > Options > Quicktime Player Input
Thanks!
Thank you
Hi Sorry, can anyone hear the voice while recording, I cant :((
For some reason it's not working anymore on my computer T _ T
Next to the plus and minus signs at the bottom of Audio MIDI Setup is a dropdown you can use to make the same changes he instructs us to do in System Preferences/Sound. It seems to me that people who go back and forth regularly should just leave the Setup in their dock and do everything from there.
You recorded this two years ago. I just tried it, and it works. You have produced an amazing evergreen product (and saved me hours of frustration). Thank you.

For ppl who are using it for zoom meeting on MacBook. @6:18 The order on selecting devices is really important and makes sure to change your zoom audio setting to the same as the system. @@callysv8995 @Callys V I tried recording a Zoom meeting of around an hour since I was confident of recording in a Mac after my trial of recording a video! As a backup I had also Zoom inbuilt recording. After the meeting went well, I played the recording but then realized that there is no audio from either side!!! I also lost the Zoom recording since I closed the MacBook due to the frustration and may be Zoom quit the conversion of the recording and I could not locate that specific recording anywhere!! Now, I have reset the settings as you suggested and made peace with the fact that you cannot record a Zoom (may be other Apps for online meeting as well) meeting on MacBook and use a Windows laptop for that.

Thank you so much for the tutorial!! Here are my tips: (1) Use the 2ch one (2) to add your voice to the recording, add it "Quicktime Player Input", check the box next to the microphone you are using, and make sure to choose the one that has a number under the "In" column, NOT the "Out"... In my case I added my AirPods to the Quicktime Player Input where there was a 1 under "In" (this means it's using one channel for the input) ... (3) Make sure to change your Sound Output (controlled in the upper right of the mac OS) to "Screen Record w/ Audio" while recording, and switch it back to your normal headset/speakers when you're done.
the sound of mic is only coming out of one ear

Thanks for the wonderful video, it helped me out tremendously. I did have one thing to add, however. At least in most recent release, (12.0.1), you don't need to go into sound preferences to switch between output devices once this is set up. You can simply click on the speaker/sound icon in the top bar and select internal audio or the screen record w/audio and it will switch.
Are you using macbook pro? If so, where's this icon? I can't find it, help pls
@@LoveLynetteTan I was using an m1 mac mini running Mac OS 12.0.1. I don't have access to a mac running the current release, but it was with the icons in the right of the top bar. From what I can see in screenshots, volume/sound control has been moved to the control center, which I'm not sure if/how the interactions are different. Maybe try clicking where it says sound, right clicking the sound section, or try editing the control center and see if there is an output section you could add. You might also be able to drag sound out of the control center and back into the top bar, though again I'm not sure.

Hello! thanks for the tutorial!
I wanted to comment on something, I think there is no need to create "Quick Player Input", it is just a "mask" for the virtual channel "BlackHole", so you can skip that part, just select "Blackhole" as input in the option of quick player record, but BEFORE that you have to decide how to play the sound from your computer (select option 1 or option 2):
1 Select the added output device: the one that is created in the video (internal speakers + blackhole) by doing so you will be able to hear the internal output, that is, the audio will be played through the internal speakers and the virtual blackhole channel (that was the example in the video).
2 Simply select "black hole" as the output device: in this case, the audio will be played only through the virtual channel, so the speakers will be silent but the recording will be able to capture the audio that the computer is playing (what I needed).

Hi, this message is from Dec 2022! (MacOS Ventura)
For me it works without creating the "QuickTime Player Input" aggregate device.
I just created two "Multi-Output Devices" (one for my AirPods and one for my Headphones) since the new software on Mac does not give you an option for "Built-in Output" anymore. You can create one for the MacBook Speakers as well if you don't use headphones or AirPods.
And in QuickTime when I want to record with internal audio I just select BlackHole from the "Microphone" menu, and then in the top right corner I press on the audio icon and select one of my Multi Output Device that I created (depending on what I use as my output device, headphones or AirPods)
This setup just keeps thing a little more clean overall, I will play around see if I can make it even cleaner.
And of course thank you @nolanmolt for this tutorial! Curious how you have this setup currently, would be nice to see an updated version of this video!
Hey! Thanks for the update. I have the same issue as well. I tried your way but still couldn't record internal audio of my Whatsapp call. I selected my headphones in the Audi MIDI Setup "Screen Record W/ Audio" and this allows me to listen to the video lectures that I want to record on my headphones while the audio is captured in the recording.
The only downside is having to switch the audio output back and forth. I wish this setting would just work in QuickTime Play by selecting the "screen Record with Audio" without having to change the system settings. But you can't have everything... Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you so much! Your explanation was so clear and easy to follow. Yeah mine doesn't either but you should have the option that says "MacBook Pro Speakers" which I'm pretty sure is the same as the built-in output, because that's the main output for audio on a MacBook Pro. Yeah, do the same two steps, but you also select the microphone device on the list.
NO WAY!!! Thank you soooooo much, I have been trying to do this for so long!
I followed these steps and experienced UA-cam videos and other streaming videos stopped playing, would not buffer. As soon as I changed output source back to speakers instead of the 'Screen Record w/ Audio' device, the video began playing. During one of my video recording attempts, I changed my output device to anything that was an option. In rewatching the play back, I realized that I got audio in the recording when I selected the 'BlackHole 16ch' as my output device!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't hear audio as it recorded, but it was there in the playback. That works for me for now.
I hope this helps others!
