Guys, remember that OBS does allow you to record your screen + add transitions and stuff that makes production super easy, you don't have to stream on Twitch, it's super easy to use and there are lots of youtube tutorials if you get stuck :)

Hi Aurelius, these are some great suggestions! One other software that I noticed didn't make the list was OBS. It's a free screen recorder software that works really well. Keep up the good work!
Can any of these tools able to record the screen and camera at the same time on different video tracks.. so you can later edit them in post processing? If i want to later move the camera bubble to a different location or to hide it completely as it may interfere with some content in the screencapture. I think Quicktime recording at least mixes the two into one video so you can’t later toggle camera capture on/of or relocate/resize the camera picture in picture.
Such great suggestions. I have used a few of these that you mentioned in the past and really after looking at them all I went with the ScreenFlow...for some reason the downloading process was a nightmare not like a typical download...I love that way it works but the 2 hours or more to try to figure out why the downloading, licensing and other issues "ain't nobody got time for that". They do offer a follow along video to help but you should offer different looks downloading. A few steps were skipped! Thanks for your suggestions...it helped me make my decision.

Loved the info here. I have used loom before, but the 5 mins time limit is a bit of a turn off. Given the price of Camtesia Loom (paid) is a sensible choice.
Try OBS studio, it’s an open source screen recording software. I personally use it for my channel. You can use it for screen recording or stream on UA-cam, twitch and other streaming services. It’s pretty good and lots of people use it, because of this there are lots of tutorials online if you get stuck. :) hope this helps. 😁

I'm using OBS for recording only no need for streaming, but as soon as open the OBS start streaming or message show up : "could not access the specificed channel or stream key, double check your stream key....... .to the server". Can I disable streaming so that no message appears ?

@@AureliusTjin circling back after some success and struggle...I've switched to ScreenFlow. While the multi video/audio sources are on both, and fine, the editing UI/UX feels much better to me on ScreenFlow. There appears to be no way to scrub audio in Camtasia, and the timeline hot keys are very limited in comparison. How you have a Mac native product that does not understand a Magic Track Pad, gestures, etc...beyond me. I'm also coming from a Premiere and Blender background for what that's worth where these type of keyboard/trackpad editing controls are deep. Food for thought.

Because I’ve been searching for this MacBook solution for about two years now, and still haven’t been able to find one, and that is screen recording on a MacBook without catching external audio. I’d like to screen record on my Mac without it catching the audio of me sneezing, or my dog barking in the background.

I have a Mac and it drives me mad that it uses the inbuilt microphone so gets all the noise in the room, like the dog playing with squeaky toys! How can I get it to use something like Blackhole. I have set the sound settings for the mic to be blackhole, but it doesn't record the sound at all when I do that. (Yes I am clicking built in Mic on the options as that is where I have set it to be the default). It's driving me mad and I have been trying for 2 days!
Heyyy, so I watched your video step by step, I downloaded it to my laptop and phones. I also have a app on my phone that's call you video where I do my all editing. For some reason when I open my intro in this app it doesn't do anything, but I open it in my gallery it does what it suppose to do. Pretty please help me
Wasn't sure where to ask this but, has anyone noticed a reduction in image quality on UA-cam lately? Not with this video but on other channels, especially with motion or complex scenes, such as lots of trees? I see a lot of macro-blocking (I think it's called) - used to happen on 420p and lesser playback settings but now I'm seeing it on 720p as well, even for channels lucky enough to have VP9 video encoding.

That's a good question. You could get away using ScreenFlow to edit most videos but it depends what you're editing. If you're going to be doing lots of color grading, correcting, and effects, ScreenFlow isn't good for that. If your videos are mainly screen recording, then ScreenFlow is all you need. I've dialled in my camera settings so that I don't need to do any major color correcting so I edit everything in ScreenFlow for my screen tutorial based videos. For videos where it's 100% talking head, I use Adobe Premiere Pro. ScreenFlow is going to give you more options for screen effects specifically (scaling/zooming, mouse cursor effects, etc).

Has anyone figured out a way to record screen and audio (on mac) with only system sounds? I tried using my airpods, but the audio wasn't added. I tried without airpods and it picks up ALL the background noise and is also very "dull" sounding.

OBS with Davinchi resolve (free video editor) is the best free combination i think. no limitation on quality or length

Yes! It's an all-in-one capture tool. However, for screenshots I specifically use SnagIt.
