I like how you are brutally honest and yet gentle with your children about how life works. And I am also glad you didn't show the actual killing. Soft soul that I am, that part is too tough for me, unless survival was the only choice.
So glad to have found a family that is living the good life. I was raised the same way. Had such a great up bringing. Love watching your family.. Thanks for sharing.🙂👍🏼
Awesome! Nothing like raising your own food. Like you said : you know what conditions it was raised, in what it was fed & I think it's important to know how it was killed. You can definitely taste a difference in the taste, too! Healthy food equals a healthy family. GOOD JOB, my friend.
Make Bone broth! On those tomatoes, when you unthaw them, Put them in a strainer and as they unthaw most of the water will drain out. I then run the whole tomato through my big blender and you have a nice thick sauce....without all the cooking down. It's a good feeling to have a freezer full of meat. You are doing a good job providing for your family.
@@ArmsFamilyHomesteadWhole tomatoes will freeze but will disintegrate when you thaw them so will be perfect for making sauce one warm evening in the summer.
If I’m not mistaken you got all that meat for an average of $1.40/pound, which basically is a ridiculously amazing price for everything from the ground beef to the t-bones.
We hunted, fished, victory gardened and had an animal at a relative's farm, three freezers were the norm for us too. my parent's businesses profitability depended on the economy. Our family would be catching hell during this pandemic... our family's bellies thrived in tough times.
I think its important for them to know where our food comes from. I wish more kids could have that experience and not just think of meat as coming from the grocery store.
This video was great! My husband and I have watched many videos about raising and butchering a cow. None of the other videos we have found gave the specifics you did. You answered all our questions about costs involved and the amount of return for your investment. Very informative! Thank you!
It's an amazing feeling to raise up and butcher your own meat animals. As you stated, you know exactly what went into it, and you know that the animal lived a good life. It sounds like it only had one bad day.
I am very pleased to see food like that is awesome. We used to raise all our meat and we cut ground and tenderized our steak . We made sausage it was tough and so worth it. Deer and elk is delicious too. Chickens and rabbit. Farm life is nice . U will enjoy Willy Huston. 👍 Thanks for sharing.
Little Houston was so kind hearted from young. he made me cry when he was so sad over Big Mac.. real kind from heart boy.. wish he didnt have to go through seeing his animals butchered..
I just started to watch your UA-cam page on March 7, 2022. Lester Marrow and IMA Survivor donkey Sanctuary was talking about you guys so I thought I stop by and I’m happy I did. I have more than a few family & friends that are or were in Law enforcement. The very first video of yours that I watched was about your friend Danny and the Podcast, and I want to thank you for posting that video. I also want to thank you for your service in law-enforcement. Take care and God bless you and your family.
I remember way back when you had Big Mac and then Whopper lol. I remember watching when you first got your first Alpaca and when you had pigs lol. I have been watching your videos for years and I have loved all your content. You have a amazing family and have had alot of awesome animals.
Going to save you a bunch of money at the store. Meat prices are so high and so full of chemicals. Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the cooler weather.
Take your tomatoes, add onions, green peppers, celery, garlic, salt &pepper, and 3 cups of water and 1/2 of sugar. Cook it down ; put thru seive. Best tasting home made tomato juice. You can can use this as base for sauce ,soups and stews.
.65 /lb is a good price. A place down here in Texas tried to charge me 1.00/lb. may have to drive a little farther from the house to get a better price.
My mom would just buy steers and feed them on grass and Let them grow for about a year and then feed them out for 180 days I really want to have my own land eventually to do that. Meat is so much better and better for you when it’s not full of who knows what from the grocery.
Bella would like the bones, but first boil them to make bone broth. Very nice, healthy to drink warm in winter or in soups. Better than any of those veggie juices! So many things plants can't give you.
Your wife is lucky to have someone so resourceful. Women around the world clap for your ability to solve the problem of dumped freezer. Phenomenal. Our challenge? We cannot put any meat/ heavy items on the door of the freezer, because it makes the door fall open/ seal doesn't stay seale.d
Here at my place we don't freeze meat for that long. We like eating fresh. We buy directly from butcher houses. The meat is usually sold out in few hours. That meat is mostly consumed the same day. I grew up on home grown beef we did grass fed until we put them up to feed out then we did corn fed. I cannot tell you how much I miss home grown meat. You can’t buy anything even close to home grown in the store.
We don't have room to raise our own cow. But found someone who raises grass feed cows. Sometime next month we should be getting our meat. This is our first time doing this. I already ran the numbers roughly and we save a lot. I pay $8 a pound for hamburger at the store
Cajun Belle1 we are contemplating minicattle and zebu for that reason not alot of space needed as theyre really not much bigger than a large dog( around 36" height ) 1/3 of the feed cost etc
Wow! Willy made a lot of meat for you all. My mouth is now watering. LOL I love me some chicken fried steak with gravy. Good luck explaining things to Houston!
238 lbs of hamburger at sams on sale for $3.98 per pound would have cost you $947.24 just for the hamburger...And it’s not half as good as grass fed! Good deal!👍
Awesome your stock for awhile. Love the freezer, that's the best find. Especially if it works. The process cost wasn't bad. Great deal. I should say you have some explain to do.:).
Cannot digest meat but bones get used for making bone broth in our home. And some get roasted for the bone marrow. We pressure cook bones to mush which we give to our neighbor who makes her own dog food.
Oh my goodness! That's a beautiful sight. No freezer judgments here...I have 4... The farmer that I allow to hay my property raises cattle. He doesn't use antibotics or any kind of horomones. He took a bunch of cows to the market and the price is down. He told me to come and pick out a cow. I told him I would, but I'll pay for the processing and split the meat with him and he was happy with that.
I now it's hard to explain to the little ones but the early the better. I told my kids it's like raising tomatoes you raise them to eat them. That why I never name my hogs of cows . Remember safety is number one on your homestead.
I'm currently building a hog pen to breed pork, next is finishing the pasture to raise beef. I will also be adding meat rabbits and a Aquaphonics system to raise fish and a year round garden. I will have Hampshire / Landrace cross pork, Scottish Highland beef, New Zealand white rabbits and Tilapia fish. I will also have some chickens in there to help keep the pasture clean, and provide eggs and meat. A lot of the meat I produce will be for barter as I will be producing a lot of meat. I would encourage you to check out the Highland beef, while they are slower growing the meat is higher in protein and iron and lower in cholesterol. They have a thick hair coat so they don't need a lot of fat to keep them warm, so you end up with leaner beef that is better for you; They are a superior breed.
Wow it sounds like you have a good plan to provide yourself lots of meat. I have thought out the highland cattle. They seem like a really neat breed. I just don't know how well they would handle our Oklahoma heat in the summer time.
The American Highland Cattle Association highlandcattleusa.org Actually has 7 breeders in OK, they adapt to their environment. I had wondered about having them in Virginia and we have a few breeders here as well. Now this isn't all the people who have them it's only the people that are on the AHCA web site. Some sell beef and from time to time sell calves. My concern was finding a breed that was hardy and didn't require a lot of attention, most breeders report that they let the Heifers calve on their own without any issues. They don't require a barn and will eat pine straw as they are not picky eaters. I found a lot of information on the AHCA web site that was helpful in making my decision, after finding out more about the breed it became the only choice. Much like anything else they do cost more, personally I don't let cost be a deciding factor in much of anything; Not that I have money falling out of my hind parts. It's really not about money anyways, I believe you get out of something exactly what you put into it, so my beef will only eat pine straw if they want too. I have sourced bulk non GMO corn and brewers grain, plus I will be mixing soy bean meal and a mineral with the feed along with some type of hay roll; I haven't finished my research on that just yet. I want my livestock to be full and happy. I have figured out how to add a mud hole to my hog pen with a small kids swimming pool, I'm going to do everything I have to do to make sure my livestock has everything they could want; In return they are going to keep my freezer full of the highest quality meat you can find. I applaud your efforts sir and wish only the best for you and your family.
Haha Houston is so stinking' cute! I'm actually surprised with how well kids take it when farm animals become dinner. My kids LOVE eating the "naughty roosters" haha. I also love me some chicken fry!!!
That is a serious amount of beef. I'm sure it will be tasty. I just processed our 25 Cornish X and I thought that was quite a bit. There's nothing like home raised protein. Take care
Arms Family Homestead- I did process them it wasn't to bad I had built a whizbang (drum-style)chicken plucker and it made quick work of it. About 4hrs for those birds if you leave them whole but I cut up half of them so that did take longer
Okay, to all my farmers and self butchers. I’m newly into the small farming business and have been raising some chickens, goats, ducks, cattle etc with help from my wife and parents. We are all new to farming, I lucked out on a 17 acre property with the animals already on it, here in Florida. So my question is, how do I properly store the meat? What type of paper? Or freezer wrapping? Vacuum seal? Wash the meat with lime? I just need the meat to keep good in the freezer for as long as I can. Thanks!
I know this is an older video but I'm trying to catch up. I don't know much about farm animals, but with the feed and all the fees for processing, how much did it cost you and did you save money on doing it this way? Thanks Daniel and Houston.
My cousin told me a story. That him and his brother took a liking to one of the chickens. Grandpa said which chicken? They pointed her out. Grandpa went over to the chicken and killed it for supper. told grandma that chicken and dumplings were for supper. He then went on to say there is no pets on this farm. every animal down to the dog had a purpose. so long story short they learned a lesson of life that day.
Hi love your channel! I've read a lot of random articles online claiming beef from older cows (3-4 years old) is chewy and has poor marbling. Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on the taste & quality of your beef and how it compares to store bought meat
What is the true cost per lb. , Including cost of animal, feed and any extra fencing needed. I think that the city dwellers should know that farming is not cheap and they should know what kind of costs are involved in their meat prices.
Love me some chicken fried steak. Im in the hunting faze right now of purchasing a butchered cow for the best price. Im splitting the cist with my sisters family. I only have to feed myself and my son so itll last a long time.
That is awesome. New subscriber from Dutchs channel, which I'm also new too. About how much do you think you had in cost for feed? We are here in Indiana and I'm hoping in the near future we get about 10 acres of land and our dream home built on it and have our own homestead.
That's alot of beef and I have to say you done a really great job stacking all that lol looks to pretty almost to eat..almost :P We hadn't had a beef butchered in awhile but im like you... it just taste so much different than anything you can buy in the store.
I know this is older but as a newer sub I’m trying to catch up and watch some of everything. Anyway...I was totally in to hearing how this come out as we want to buy a calf. We won’t raise it ourselves, unfortunately we don’t have the space. Still we want a whole or even half. All that said, as soon as Houston come out I stopped listening! He stole the spot light. I don’t mind a bit. I’ve got 4 grandkids now and I love every second. (Can’t believe I’m this old already, lol) Your little boy is an absolute doll. He really is. I know, I know I said it before and you hear it A LOT but it’s true. He’s a doll. Your daughter is beautiful too but little Houston sure loves the camera and hanging with Dad. I think that’s wonderful. I’m gonna stop blubbering bout your boy now and rewatch the video and try and learn something! LOL TFS...God Bless you and your sweet family. ~Lisa
Thanks Lisa! He is a great kid and yes he LOVES the camera. EmmaLee is an amazing little girl too but she's just not quite the camera hog that Houston is.
I LOVE how you didn't just throw it in there, but actually made it neat and organized!
Thank you!
@@ArmsFamilyHomestead thanks for your amazing video hello from Ireland 👍☘️🇮🇪
Awesome! Nothing like raising your own food. Like you said : you know what conditions it was raised, in what it was fed & I think it's important to know how it was killed. You can definitely taste a difference in the taste, too! Healthy food equals a healthy family. GOOD JOB, my friend.
You are right. The difference in taste is huge.
I now know the answer to that old commercial question " Where's The Beef? " It's over at the Arms Family Homestead, Thanks for sharing
It's definitely over here right now! lol
Yum! Reminds me of my sister's farm. They had freezers in their garage full of lamb, caribou, elk, pheasants, chuckers, salmon, chicken.
Yum!!!!!
Good luck explaining that to him.
Your son is the best part! Well done my friend!
Make Bone broth! On those tomatoes, when you unthaw them, Put them in a strainer and as they unthaw most of the water will drain out. Thanks, I'll have to try both ideas I think.
Yes thank you. I sure hope I remember that the next time I have a bunch of tomatoes.
I'm confused. To "unthaw" would mean to freeze...right?
@@ArmsFamilyHomesteadWhole tomatoes will freeze but will disintegrate when you thaw them so will be perfect for making sauce one warm evening in the summer.
Thank you for going over the costs and how long you think the meat'll last. Really eye opening that some good planning can save so much.
If I’m not mistaken you got all that meat for an average of $1.40/pound, which basically is a ridiculously amazing price for everything from the ground beef to the t-bones.
He didn't include the cost of raising the cow.
Hi.... Thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
I bet that was an interesting conversation but a necessary one. I'm sure he will understand eventually. Looks like you are stocked up now.
Yeah he will understand but at 4 years old it's hard for him to catch on to.
I like seeing Houston at this age he is what I think is the best age for a lot of people to have in their homes It makes a HOME COMPLETE!!!
We hunted, fished, victory gardened and had an animal at a relative's farm, three freezers were the norm for us too. my parent's businesses profitability depended on the economy. Our family would be catching hell during this pandemic... our family's bellies thrived in tough times.

You're welcome. I'm glad it helped you out.
i used to buy all our meat at the grocery store, now we buy from our local butchers ,the meat is so fresh and tastes so much better

Hi Daniel its Shane from Toowoomba Queensland Australia OK just letting you know that bull heart is very nice to eat
We grew up on grass fed in the 70s until grampa got the corn field ...we called it 52 chew ..
Two freezers full - good on ya! Poor Houston, when the penny finally drops about Willy, I hope it's not to traumatizing.
I don't think it will be too hard on him at all. Thanks.

WOW, that's good for you all having 3 freezers, incase of an emergency ❤❤❤. Yes on the dog bones.
Houston, We have a problem....
Houston uttered the dreaded, my feet hurt. Little dude probably grows like a weed and needs new shoes. Good thing you saved so much money on meat. Tfs
Well he was walking around outside without shoes, he just had on socks. I think he was just wanting a little attention.
Thanks for walking us through the process. I’ve always wondered how this works! I’d like to own some cows 🐄 so I can have a freezer full too!!!

Yeah that freezer was a heck of a deal! Thanks.
God's blessing for sure!!
I agree, Thanks.
Its 1100 lbs ok thank you for you're quick response I really appreciate it
Okay. Well this was an 1150 pound live weight heifer. You should get about half of what was in this video.
Did you cook Willy! HA!! that was adorable.
lol yeah he wasn't sure about that one.
Cannot digest meat but bones get used for making bone broth in our home. And some get roasted for the bone marrow. We pressure cook bones to mush which we give to our neighbor who makes her own dog food.
Hmmm... never though about the pressure cooking idea. Thanks.
Oh my I have never saw that much meat!! I was telling my friend this morning if we didn't buy meat our grocery bill would go way down.
Yes it would go way down. Meat is so very expensive.

You can boil them down and make bone broth and then give the bones to the dogs just an idea my wife makes bone broth
New to y'all's channel. That is awesome. Your son is so cute.
Thank you.
Thanks, usually it doesn't stack all that easy. Most times it all comes sliding out on me. lol
When will you show freezer again. I love this video.
