Not to mention all three of the bass players he played with in nerve, John Davis, Tim lefebvre, and Janek Gwizdala are all great, and all credit him as being a big influence
I found JOJO MAYER w/NERVE a week ago !!!! I'm totally appreciating this group of authentic originals. The musicianship is outstanding. It's now become a bonafide obsession !!!
Richard Henry Como en el fútbol está messi, en este rubro tenemos a Jojo Mayer, un sobresaliente genio que no tiene punto de comparación bajo ningún punto de vista.
What an interesting band concept. Keyboard, bass and drums seems so incomplete without at least a guitar added to the mix, but it totally works out here. Very interesting songs that never seem to get boring. It reminds me of some pieces from Nine Inch Nails or Aphex Twin. I also like to see younger artists play together with older artists. I think so many bands could use some experience or modern influences. Something that only comes with an old or a young band member.
Damn I totally fell in love with this band. I knew about them for years but today was the first time I gave them a listen - should have done it earlier.
You can learn a little morse code with this one, I think. Dot dot dot...dash...dash......dash. Jojo is just pure precision. Precision clockwork -*surgical* precision.
Incrível como a fusão entre o acústico e o eletrônico acontece. Realmente um grande músico com uma entrega fantástica. Manipulações rítmicas perfeitas. Sentimento. .. Enfim. .. sem mais!
It's definitely a lot to internalize. Technical yet perfect pocket . Lot to piece together remember everything. They have stuff programmed/ samples/ computer , but a lot to put together. Impressive!
I saw Nerve this summer at the "Baby 's All Right " in Brooklyn : I love the effective, metronomic and groovy play of John and his fucking good sophisticated bass sounds. Same for the playing of Jacob, various sounds, various energies, hypnotic melodies. Aaron creates the great spatial musical mood of it. And Jojo, well... the Alien. Kind of robotic groovy human-machine, between Kendrick Scott and Terry Bozzio. "Organic" electro, jazz approach, both complex & minimal. Stunning. Huge slap. Il faut absolument que vous veniez jouer à Paris ! On a besoin de vous :-)
Du bist echt eine Bereicherung für alle die das Trommeln lieben. Danke für all deine Tipps die du mit uns teilst. großes merci für diese 36:46 min. Goosebumps all time ! salut
Absolutely amazing ! Jojo your TedTalks video's completely changed my outlook on drumming and life as a whole. You're phenomenal to watch perform. Also the rest of the group is spot on, amazing performance by all involved here.
Yeah, I found courage to buy drums and start practicing after one of his lectures in UA-cam (not even a TedTalk). Feeling so happy now, turns out it's something I've always not only wanted to do but actually can. So grateful to Jojo!
I truly don't know what's more difficult to find... seeing Jojo mayer dropping a stick, witnessing anyone on earth prove that contagion exists or prove the isolation of a virus without pseudoscientific control groups, or seeing the Loch Ness monster up close. Anyways, so what I learned after watching this incredible video, is that I know now that I might get a chance to see the Loch Ness monster up close... but the other outcome is some complete tooth fairy stuff and we shouldn't get our hopes up
I like new members of The Nerves :) And Jojo... you are not only great at playing the drums. You are a great composer in it. Cheers from Poland Guys and thanks for this perfect video!
Great concept, that just get greater more it matures.. Just top notch production quality here, starting from each individual performance to mixing, which seem kinda blend into seamlessly. Also really nice cam work and lightning. Best of all, combine all of above and you've created such a jamfest of the 21st century! Thanks for sharing the talent!
actually he drops his stick on pretty much every video on youtube lol...the Buddy Rich tribute when he is doing solo finale, the Led Zeppelin Good Times Bad Times cover, the drum off with Dave Weckl. Buddy Rich dropped his stick twice during concert once...you just don't notice it because he recovers so well...something I am unable to do myself :( lol
Wait... that is totally insane that the improvisation at 18:00 was cued up by Jojo throwing up a "5" on hand. I guess that's like cuing up key signatures with your hands, haha. Such a tight quartet.
@@chun-weikang471 it's a quartet, because Aaron (sound and real time audio deconstruction) is part of the band. Also, there is no 5/4 groove. Although it sounds really cool and non-standard, the improv is just in 4/4.
As a bassist, Jojo Mayer inspires me more than any other musician.
Not to mention all three of the bass players he played with in nerve, John Davis, Tim lefebvre, and Janek Gwizdala are all great, and all credit him as being a big influence
@@ethanlocke3604 Absolutely. He is a bright bright star of musical genius.
Came to this vid never having heard of nerve or JoJo Mayer, leaving as a massive fan...it's like I've found who plays my head music
Yep, got the same in 2010 when UA-cam showed me Nerve - Jabon.
I found JOJO MAYER w/NERVE a week ago !!!! I'm totally appreciating this group of authentic originals. The musicianship is outstanding. It's now become a bonafide obsession !!!
Welcome to the club!!
One of the only drummers who can tell a story by playing. Also, never heard a drummer so tight. Terryfingly beautiful.
Jojo u r the best, I think that you dropped the stick because it sounds great with the floor
jajajaja C-mameishon! :v

Best 36 minutes of my fucking LIFE.

Not so fucking already))
Man.... Jojo is a Monster !!!!.... It's Unbelievable !!
I've come back to this video about 6 times a week and just let it play in the background as I work at the computer.. GREAT stuff!!
Incredible, what Jojo does during the improvisation part...wow!
Thanks for all! Amazing 👏🏻🥁💃🏼🕺🏻♥️
Holy moly omg best band ever. Jojo's tempo changes during improv is god like. I am not worthy.
Jojo, the very best of allerbest! Mehr braucht es nicht zu beschreiben

Absolute mastery all around. Brilliant players.
Guys, gals, if you're a drummer and you smoke pot. Watch this really high. Holy shit!
+Simon Carlsson Just did that. Jojo is out of this world!
+Simon Carlsson im so gonna do this
If you need to smoke pot to appreciate this. Should probably choose to do something else.
Why the hate? @AquaAnim
+Simon Carlsson Just because i say something you dont like, doesn't mean there is any hate involved what so ever.
The engineer is the secret 4th musician in this band.
It’s not a small secret either! :)
1 million percent
He's openly a performer in the band, not a secret at all.
@@carlosj.orttega4275 you know that and I know that but not everyone pays attention to the guy not on stage.
@@dankauffmanmusic yei.. It's also to notice, "the audience on stage with the band" thing, one Jojo things for most performances with Nerve.
Damn I totally fell in love with this band. I knew about them for years but today was the first time I gave them a listen - should have done it earlier.
this incarnation of Nerve is so much better with this keyboard player... Loving the live recording.. So cool.. Loving it
Gives me chills listening to these guys.
I came here after a while and I appreciate jojo & nerve more than ever
the amen break starting around 20:55 is INSANE!!!!! Love it!!!!

My favorite part is 0:00 through 36:45
why didn't you like the last 2 seconds?
+Lawrence Martinez Never said that.
+johnbeeby oh just assuming since they weren't part of your favorite . I'm jk though.
I think he just doesn't like those 2 seconds 'cause the awsomeness ends there :/

WOW! best jojo ive ever seen recorded!!
Unique! Lots of rhythms but in an organic way. Jojo has developed a very interesting mix of patterns and improvisation, groove and beauty.
