Talk, talk, talk ... talk. Not a lab. No measurements or any ABX testing or anything helpful. Just another guy with expensive gear talking. What a waste. What attribute of this amplifier, output impedance, noise floor, distortion, frequency response or anything could possibly be responsible for it being better at get you "closer to the music" than the latest $200 class D amps with absolutely amazing specifications, measured results and sound. Yeah, it's just expensive works of metal art. This is Jay's Art Studio. Not a lab in any way.
@net_news It is an expense and a luxury for yourself. Ask how much is gifting yourself for a passion worth? For the ultra rich it could be Jay's system price range even a multiple of this per room! Or if your on a budget really good iem for your phone. In either case it costs you. And the Music should make you smile. Cheers.
The best amplifier is: a) the one you keep and b) the one that makes you listen to music. However, I heard two things said: a) Revealing b) Having to change equipment to make it listenable. That is the problem with looking for the very last 1-2% sonically. Unless it is the perfect recording you don’t want to listen to it. Hence why people like Macintosh. I’ve owned a bunch much of stuff and got out of the hobby because was too consuming. Now I just enjoy my blue meters and less revealing speakers.
As I sit here looking at my latest Powerball ticket... Come-on baby! All kidding aside Jay, beautiful amps! As I've said before, really like seeing and learning how the equipment works. Going over the rear panels and explaining what is offered, etc. rather than just someone telling me what they hear. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Jay is right. The Gryphon Apex Mono doesn't use bridging to boost power, so it can handle lower impedance speakers without sacrificing sound quality. Honestly, no speakers really need more than 200W in a normal room. So focusing on quality is what truly makes it high-end.
Wow! Those Gryphons make an iImpressive statement visually & (am sure) sonically! 3 people needed just to move it into place - things like this will eventually make one wish one had a bigger audio room & loadsa free time!!
Lets get this said before moving on. You are definitely able to get that experience at prices that don't rival NASA's budget. Jay is totally immersed in what he likes, and he can afford to play, but brilliant Hi Fi, performance can be had at a fraction of what Jay puts into it. Most High Performance Music reproduction chasers like myself build their systems over many years, thinking long and hard about the most important word in HiFi, that word being "Synergy," the second being "Balance". You can achieve world-class reproduction at a very reasonable price comparatively. Jay does what he does because he can and he enjoys it. I find his channel interesting and often informative because anyone who thinks they know it all in HiFi is pretending or arrogant, and I don't believe Jay is either.
210K, so you could go to conserts every day for the rest of your life and still have money left over. I must say that from a design standpoint I prefer the Esoteric amps, their styling is very clean and understated.
Jay you got my mouth watering for some sound clips and further review once it breaks in. Keep up the Great Content and Thanks for putting a smile on my face :)
After you've had the necessary time that these 2 beast monoblocks need & deserve, to break in and pair with multiple different DACs, cables and even a couple sets of speakers, I'd LOVE for a comparison with the near top of the line Dan D'Agostino Relentless 800 monoblocks! What a 'clash of the titans' shootout that would be, Jay! I know you've had the Momentum S250 MXVs from Dan in your setup in the fairly recent past, but you're room and the mighty Gryphon's deserve a worthy challenger. Love you're reviews & comparisons, as always
I just knew it had to be Gryphon. "Ultra high-end" just may be an understatement. Just the logistics of shipping and moving these pieces into place has got to be something to behold. I love how they rounded the heatsinks too - I can remember very vividly banging my leg, knee, hand, etc. into sharp heatsinks on power amps as I moved stuff around. It is always interesting to see (and hear) a true pure Class A amplifier vs. some of the dynamicly-biased Class A designs that are on the market now (e.g. Krell's iBias technology).
As the former exclusive distributor of Gryphon Audio in Iran; I must say this brand is magnificent and magical BUT there’s no such thing as the best amplifier….
Cool stuff Jay. And these babies should come in handy if you need to do some welding. Also good to have strong friends like Carlos! Thank you for sharing your journey thru the ultra-high end with us. Gear that most of us can only dream about.
I'm looking forward to how it sounds with the Commander pre Amp and what you think of them when you have had a chance to live with them for a while. The amps are sure beautiful looking. Thanks Jay
Hi Jay. I have never seen a Monoblock Amplifier with 2 pairs of speaker terminals. When you do your next video could you cover how that works and what is the correct way to wire the Amplifier to the speakers. Thanks Jay, and great work.
Yes, it would have been interesting to short-circuit the output and then switch it on - does the amplifier notice this - or does it simply switch to 1 ohm according to the motto "this will probably be a box that is not yet at operating temperature"?
Another great video Jay, thanks for another Hyper Ultra High End power amp showing! they match your personality!!!!! BIG and BOLD!!!!!! enjoy those bad boys!!! maybe some day! Peace!
Although I am a Dan Agostino relentless amplifier fan I do believe the Griffin is a more neutral nuance amplifier than a relentless but I repeat, but I still prefer the Relentless. I like it’s involvement how it draws you into the music now I’ve not listened to Apex, but the Griffin sound is definitely Beguiling in the sense that there is a clarity to it that is just there that’s all there is to it. Another words I could be very happy with it as well as the Solution CH precision, etc. etc. etc. The thing about the Dan Agostino Relentless amplifier is that you have this impression of being more involved in the actual stage presence of the music venue. Is it neutral nope but it is still very accurate nuanced and detailed at the same time. The Griffin has a bit more clarity, but misses out as far as I’m concerned in involvement that’s my take. Oh yeah, it’s bass and midbass is to die for and its midrange has got to be heard to be believed.😊
I haven't seen such a diversity of power amps anywhere else, and everything from 400+ pound class A monsters to highly efficient class D output stages. The common thread here is that all components are of exceptional quality. The great show here certainly keeps me tuned in!
Amazing Jay, congrats for this achievement. A question, if you had already swapped the speakers with the subwoofers to the inside of the room, as were expected, why did you swapped them back again ???

Чтобы правильно играл контрабас нужно 160 на канале, для этого чтобы играло без искажений нужно 400 ват поэтому минимум 400 нужно!
The amps are almost art. Beautiful pieces, and I'm sure they sound ridiculous. We're so blessed in this Nation.
Couldn't agree more!
I would say they are art!
The amps are blocking the sound from the speakers.. you have to move them more to the front wall..
The Darth Vader of amps. Watch the street lights dim when these chaps kick in!
I thought Jay was going to reveal the mini cooper😂
Just bought their baby brother (Essence), can’t begin to imagine what these sound like. Happy listening.😊
