I hope that this video never completely disappears from YT, and that it will be shared and watched again and again on different channels, as much as possible, so that even national media and news agencies will catch this as a newsworthy event! Because this case is a real trampling of the free media and the producers of these videos! Mark has really spent hours and hours making this video too... figuring out the connections, drawing the maintenance instructions for the device in question himself! And the device manufacturer is citing copy protection to have the video removed from Mark's channel! How can you invoke copy protection for the video in question when no part of the product was copied and used in any other product? Not a single electronic component was designed or manufactured by Evans, everything was standard stuff that can be bought from any well-stocked hardware store. Rather, Evans could be held liable for removing the identification and manufacturer codes from the components... i.e. "owning" components that are "copy-protected" by the manufacturers? Or has he produced the components with a subcontractor who has illegally sold him copy-protected components, but has removed the product codes and other identifying markings? If this has happened, then this probably already meets the criteria for a crime!
Thanks for posting this, I don’t watch his channel enough to know what had happened but clearly the maker of that preamp took great offense to the fact that the client wanted it sent to another servicer lol, and to add insult to injury, opened it up and showed what it actually was, which is: $60 worth of standoffs, $40 worth of caps & resistors, $20 worth of op- amps & regulators 😂
No it wasn't the music at the end. For starters, Tom Evans has no right to claim a copyright infringement on behalf of someone else. Only the rights holder of that music can make that copyright claim (and didn't do so). Tom Evans claimed infringement of his registered designs, because of Mark's reverse engineering and documentation. But he didn't specify a specific registered design number ...and it turns out he does _not_ have any registered designs anyway! So he was not telling the truth on that point. He used UA-cam "copyright strike" mechanism to protect intellectual property he has no right to protect. He can't claim copyright for an electronic circuit design. He can't patent his circuit designs (because they're obvious and there's loads of prior art). And he can't claim registered designs because he hasn't registered any. Tom Evans is just embarrassed at having his amateur hour handiwork and shonky business practices (obscuring cheap parts numbers) exposed to the World.
For those who don’t know, what’s the backstory here ? I assume from the comments that the manufacturer sued /contacted YT to have this service vid removed…
There was a copyright strike on Mark's original video and it was taken down. Last I've heard, Mark has had no explanation. Of course, one isn't required to be given. Mark posted a video about this one's removal on his channel when it happened. We don't actually know if the copyright claim was made by an automated tool or a person (e.g. the Tom Evans company). But the claim "copyright" seems pretty weak to most of us.

I cannot claim to have really gotten into alot of top tier gear. I did once have a Krell amp and CD player. The CD player was a write-off as a gear stripped and it was before the day of 3D printing. No gears to be found but the maker offered to fix it for 900$ minimum charge. I sold it to a Korean instead. The amp had issues and turned out to be leaking electrolytics on a PC board. One had created a conductive path with the eledtrolyte leakage. Actually was not a difficult fix(I replaced all alike caps) and overall the quality of construction was high in both. But looking at the outsides of gear leaves you no idea what evil lurks behind a pretty face.

Tom Evan's will be long gone while we're still watching and supporting MIM!
Gear for people with more money than brains.
Thanks 😊😊😊.
Ottimo! Grazie per aver ripubblicato. Buon lavoro!
Electrónica antigua que aún sigue funcionando de maravilla.
This design is a "macarrada" hope you find translation however the repair is a show of LOVE
Wonderful work. The cabinet repair was next level. WHAT WERE THE DIP SWITCHES FOR? I would love to see SNR test; bet you have a HP 8903b in your shop somewhere 😉.
I am surprised it was not glued together. If the Chinese made this it will be built of 10MM aluminum, better assembled and priced with 2 less zeros but an audiophool will never touch it. I wonder how this compares to my iFi Zen Phono.
Good job! (reposting) *How could UA-cam persecute a retired Santa Elf? He is only fixing the World's toys in his retirement!!* 🙂
