    Hollinger’s analysis: Yes! I love it! Holland was the No. 1 guy on my board, and I was absolutely perplexed that he was falling so far in mock draft world when his output at G League Ignite was superior to that of several other recent lottery picks. Holland may struggle out of the gate as he works on his shooting and half-court reads, but the Pistons shouldn’t be in win-now mode and badly need a second wing creator to help Cade Cunningham. This is a great pick to start off the Trajan Langdon era in Detroit.

  • @dantemassey600
    @dantemassey600 7 місяців тому +1

    Obviously shooting needs to improve across the board. I think improving shooting in house is better than signing or drafting. Last year we had Bojan, Burks, Morris, and Harris on this team, all i believe came in shooting at least 38% from 3 the previous season.
    Shooting is not the biggest problem for this team. If you get Ausar and Holland to at least league average, thats two terror hounds on defense, and two super athletic slashing wings that can space the floor

      3s win games. The 18 best 3 point shooting teams made the playoffs or play in.

    • @richyd4762
      @richyd4762 7 місяців тому +11

      Well let's not be obtuse... the reason people are tired of this archetype of player is because we have gotten players that can defend and don't shoot in the past 5 years but they mostly suck, partially due to NO ONE ON THE TEAM being a consistent and reliable shooter. These players hurt others like them that we draft and most importantly Cade because they are an offensive cesspool.
      Can this pick be a solid player? Absolutely.
      Will it get realized here?
      Probably not because the pistons keep drafting and not developing players who can't shoot, so that paint that he loves to score in will have 3 people in it.

    The same way that Langdon was secretive about wanting Holland are we sure that Clingan was as highly valued by other teams as he was made out to be? The problem with draft coverages (in any sport) is all the “insiders” have to write articles and pass along rumors gossip and conjecture but no one knows if any of it is true. But if a rumor gets loud enough then everyone seems to just take it as fact, and in reality teams are incentivized to lie and deceive about their true evals b/c they need to be able to make deals.

    Yup. Uh huh. Right. I'm absolutely convinced that it must be me or one of a number of fans that just ain't' getting it. Haven't we talked for years that we need a 3 and D-wing and 3 point shooters? That we need Wings who can spread and space the floor to help Cade? Now they've gone and drafted a player shooting 24% from 3.
    So basically and to paraphrase what's now being said, the narrative is but...but he has High character and is a very hard worker, he can jump out of the gym, he has those twitchy moves, he can get to the cup by creating his own shot, he's Explosive and Dynamic, he has tremendous upside for an 18 yr old. *_He's The Steal of The Draft!_*
    So in a nutshell, he can't shoot but he can do Everything Else! Great! Yes Ron has awesome traits and skills. No one's arguing that. But the fact is we were *_25th_* in 3-pointers last season.
    Having said that I'm hopeful that Trajan will laser focus on and address this need down the road. I'm also hoping that Young Holland doesn't suffer the same fate as "some" of our young players in the past being underdeveloped, left in whatever way, and became champions. Great for them not for us. Except Ausar and Ron can't actually be on the court at the same time.

    People are making this way too complicated. Cade, Ivey, Duren, Harris, and Simone. Sasser and Thompson for sure first off the bench. Everyone else is expendable except for Holland, who will be brought along to develop as Harris gets older. Get 2-3 veteran shooters off the bench.
