Still have my "Lemon Parade" CD. I recall "If You Could Only See" was inescapable around '97. Luckily, it was a great song. On the CD, "Soldier's Daughter" and "Mountain" are good, too.
Yeah it would be nice if they would actually give the people what they want, instead of worshipping at the altar of The Beatles, Metallica, Aerosmith, etc.
This is actually taken from a letter that Emerson Hart wrote to his mother when she refused to attend his wedding because she didn't like his soon to be wife. Emerson is one of the most down to earth people and heartfelt song writers around
@@recoil53wrong his first marriage was in the early 90's to Michelle (not on wikipedia) she was my friend and co- worker when all this drama was going on. I knew and hung out with them in LA # truestory
@@jaquettajones If memory serves, his mother had serious misgivings about the relationship/woman and according to Hart many years later he said she was right. No purposeful disrespect to your friend, mind you.
In an Australian television program (Live at the Chapel), Tonic lead vocalist Emerson Hart elucidated the meaning of this song. He stated that he had been in a relationship with an older woman and that his family did not approve of that relationship, and this song was written about that situation and was directed at his family. In another interview, Hart said, "When I was 21 or 22, I was in love with somebody who my mom did not feel was a good fit. So my family disowned me for about three years. And the last conversation I had with my mother when I was home I’d said, 'if you could only see the way she loves me, maybe you would understand.' I just wrote that song, after that phone call, literally in a matter of minutes.
Guys the Lemon Parade album is top quality, I highly recommend it if you dig this sound. Try out Wicked Soldier and tell me that chorus didn't get stuck in your head. Open Up Your Eyes and Casual Affair are solid radio plays but I warn you, if you're in the car when the latter starts you're probably gonna find yourself speeding. This was easily one of my favorite CD's, with well crafted songs, catchy hooks, gorgeous chord soundscapes, and strong vocals that fit nicely into the mix.
This one really takes me back to the late 90s early 2000s. There is also an amazing acoustic version of this out there. ❤ Love yall, have a great week.
I was an instant fan when I first heard this song when I was a freshman in college. Had to buy the cd at the local Circuit City. The whole album (Lemon Parade) is great. I get nostalgia now hearing this. Takes me back to my late teens.
Great song, big hit when i was in college. The lead singer actually went to school near where I lived at the time, though we went to different schools. Keep up the good work, you two!
Every day we get to see you guys is a good day! My favorite decade for music is the 70s (I was born in 1959, so these were my formative "coming of age" years) and the next era, or genre would be alternative. This was one of my favorite tunes back in the day.. this 65 year old lady still knows how to rock with some Tonic. You guys should check out another tune from Harvey Danger called Flagpole Sitta. I have not seen anyone react to that. It's a banger for sure. I hope J is feeling better and that things are looking up. Take care of yourselves everyone. Peace and love from Texas!
Yes. Us "Oldheads" used to say "there will never be another music decade like the 70's". Then the 90's hit us like a ton of bricks. Now we say "the 70's And 90's were the greatest".
I've easily seen over a 100 different bands/singers that have had songs on the radio. Tonic happened to come to my city maybe around 2008 or so (years after their hits). They put on a great show (and I went and saw them in Charlotte the following year). Honestly, I think the lead singer, Emerson Hart, is 100% the kind of guy who would be a guest on a channel like yours. "Open Up Your Eyes" is their other biggest hit. For your own listening, the acoustic versions of this song and "Sugar" are phenomenal. "Mountain" is probably my personal favorite (and the one that blew me away at the first concert of theirs).
Certainly one of the best rock songs of the 90's! I always got a dark, creepy vibe from a phrase within the chorus: "...why I feel this way about our love, AND WHAT I MUST DO..." What is this thing he 'must do'? Always seemed vaguely sinister to me. Love it.
New music requests: 1. Hanging By A Moment by Lifehouse 2. Over My Head (Cable Car) by The Fray 3. Power of Love (Love Power) by Luther Vandross 4. Can You Stand The Rain by New Edition 5. Rub You The Right Way by Johnny Gill
Loved the tune, but my comment is more forAmber. Love, love, love your jammin’ to the tunes. I’m 68, grew up in the 70’s but swear I reacted as you do, when there was only a.m. radio. Also , absolutely love the way you are unafraid to use/wear different hair styles. AND you look Wonderful in all styles. Lucky You! Love and Best Regards! Keep on Rockin’ ! Hello to you, J as well!
1 of my favorite 90s songs. Tonic was a great band the time they were around. You Wanted More is another great track. Some other gems of the 90s, Ordinary World(Duran Duran) Bittersweet Symphony(The Verve) Walk On The Ocean(Toad The Wet Sprocket. That entire album Fear is worth listening to.
I noticed that, too. Sorry to say he's not feeling it. I hope he just doesn't like the song all that much and not indicative of bigger things. Much love to all
It’s funny how certain songs can take you right back to a moment in time. This is one of those songs. I was in high school, dating a guy and we're on our way to see a movie. The radio is on in the background and this song begins playing. He turns it up and we start singing it together. It was a simple, yet beautiful moment I’ll never forget! ❤
I've been a follower since early on and mostly attracted to watching you guys discover these 60s and 70s band and Dabble in the 50s and occasionally even in the forties I think. But even though I was probably into my thirties or something by then, this song meant so much to me as did so much of that 90s music. Having been around since the late sixties, I could really pick and choose the things I liked in terms of the influences and the sound and really just what their reputation was, like where they dicks or were they actually a cool band, and so forth.
Tonic had much more than one hit as other are commenting and their Album Head on was nominated for a Grammy. Mean to me and knock down walls are others to check out
Just joined you guys, and I love what you do. By far my favorite reactions to music. Very enjoyable and easy to get pulled in to your videos, so thank you very much!
Here we go again. Another great 90s song. You guys are rockin with these 90s rock songs! Keep it up! 🙂🙂 "Open Up Your Eyes" is another good song by Tonic. I would also like to suggest the group Sister Hazel and the song "All For You."
Tonic "slaps" as the kiddos today say. I've seen them a few times and their shows were so intense and rockin' and their sound was always amazing! My favorite show was the first time, when they were on a triple bill with Verve Pipe and K's Choice, one of the best triple bill shows I've ever seen. Love Tonic's sound and vocalist Emerson Hart's vocals.
How have you guys not reacted to Belly (the band) yet? Feed the Tree was their biggest song. The lead singer Tanya Donelly is my favorite female singer.
One of the hidden gems of the 1990s
Tonic had so many great songs!! Great rock/pop from the 90’s.
Hard to believe it's been that long.
First time I ever saw them was in Memphis my hometown they opened for Big Head Todd. What an epic show from both. Tonic just killed it!!!!!! BHT also.
@@rwschumm I know what you mean. Mid-90s was 30 years ago.
@@DmMass-m7nBig Head Todd and The Monsters. I hadn’t thought of them in years.

@@Tobiasmax3000 Yes, another great song! You're right. The whole CD was terrific.
This song is super underrated absolute banger.
"You wanted More" is another great song by Tonic.
💯 Oddly, my favourite of theirs: not to take away from any of their other gems.
Brilliant first album. Still enjoy it!
That one and "mean to me"
I don't know when I got bitter... Love it.
Hemorrhage (In My Hands) by Fuel
I've suggested that about a dozen times.
Yeah it would be nice if they would actually give the people what they want, instead of worshipping at the altar of The Beatles, Metallica, Aerosmith, etc.
Great tune.
Yes yes yes!!
I’ve sent about six emails suggesting Hemorrhage by Fuel, please check that song out!!
The mid 90s was a great time! Another great one from 96 was Duncan Shiek "Barely Breathing" I'm sure Amber's Brother blasted that one too!!
Absolutely LOVE Tonic! Great album.
This is actually taken from a letter that Emerson Hart wrote to his mother when she refused to attend his wedding because she didn't like his soon to be wife. Emerson is one of the most down to earth people and heartfelt song writers around
The song was released in 1996, his first marriage was in 2000.
@@recoil53 Most of that story is true, according to Wikipedia, except it had nothing to do with a wedding, just his relationship with her.
@@recoil53wrong his first marriage was in the early 90's to Michelle (not on wikipedia) she was my friend and co- worker when all this drama was going on. I knew and hung out with them in LA # truestory
FYI, Emerson's mother, Sandra Hart, a lovely lady in her 80s, has a UA-cam Chanel, and frequently speaks of her son and his accomplishments.
@@jaquettajones If memory serves, his mother had serious misgivings about the relationship/woman and according to Hart many years later he said she was right. No purposeful disrespect to your friend, mind you.
Love when that switch goes on with Amber when that first down stroke on the guitar chord gets hit. (1:28) Can't fake that enthusiasm.
Been watching your channel for years! Just wanted you to know how inspiring it is to watch you grow as people. Thanks for being you!
I just love Amber she is my Spirit Animal. I love how free and positive she is.
“You Wanted More” is another GREAT Tonic song
This song is one of my all time favorites. It doesnt get the recognition it deserves IMO. Its an all around great song!
We gotta get some Cake on this channel. The Distance, Short Skirt, Long Jacket, and I Will Survive are all bangers from the 90s!
We keep asking. 🤞
They've still only ever one song from Live too, well over a year ago. "The Dolphin's Cry" was a great one.
Ambers a big Bread fan, maybe they'd do Guitar Man.
Hell yeah. Surprisingly overlooked by many people
Pure fire. This is a diamond in the rough.
Love it, 90s feel hard.
Michael Scott "That's what she said"
How did I forget about this song!? Thanks for the reminder, added to my library again!
