Spirit is such a good movie man!! The fact that there’s so little talking but it still so entertaining is insane. There’s a beautiful story about friendship that builds up throughout the movie and the music is just amazing! I recommend to those who haven’t seen.
Spirit would be even better without the narration. We rarely, if ever, need the voice-over to know what Spirit is thinking since they did such a fantastic job animating his expressions. The most complicated thought he has is when he realizes why the humans are having the horses haul the train over the mountain, and his expressions are more than enough to convey his realization and horror at what's happening and what will happen.
IMO, Prince of Egypt is easily the best dreamworks film, and might be one of the top 5 animated films I’ve ever seen. It’s just beautiful from start to finish.

Honestly, I think Sean's greatest flaw when it comes to ranking movies is that he just doesn't seem to see the appeal of flawed/unlikeable protagonists? The Emperor's New Groove suffered for it in the 2000's Disney movies ranking, and El Dorado suffers for it here. Yeah, the main characters are dicks - I'm still rooting for them, though! As awful as they are, they're still immensely fun to watch, and character development is always more satifying when the characters start out as not very good people. ALTHOUGH I think you're being unfair to Miguel. Yes, he's in it for the gold, but he starts to care more about the people of El Dorado almost immediately, and he was always compassionate, as seen when he risks his life to save a horse early on in the movie. But yeah, protagonists don't always have to be good people to make a good movie, especially not at the start of the movie.
@@faiththatseeksunderstanding Well, it’s been eight months so I could be wrong, but I think my issue was that he used “the main character is unlikeable” as the sole and only reason to rank something quite low on the list, even though they became much better people by the end of the movie and there wouldn’t have been a story to tell in the first place if they hadn’t started out as an asshole. Like, it’s fine to say “I don’t personally like movies with unlikeable main characters so I’m ranking this movie low” but the way I recall him phrasing it was more akin to “the main character is unlikeable, ergo the whole movie is objectively unlikeable too”. Again, it’s been eight months, I could be wrong. I just remember feeling that he approached the issue of the unlikeable main character in a way that was too black and white. Also, while it is his list, and he’s 100% entitled to his opinion, he put it on UA-cam with the comment section turned on. That’s an invitation for other people to voice their opinions, and I voiced mine. Just happened to disagree with some of his 🤷♀️
Something that annoys me with Dreamworks movies is that the quality is so inconsistent with great films like Shrek, Shrek 2 and Kung fu panda, bu then bad films like Shrek the third and bee movie hp(although I’ve only seen like 22 Dreamworks movies)

@@SENazo-co9pz None Of Those Movies Are Good, With The 2nd being the worst DreamWorks movie and the 3rd still in top 5 worst. The first was still only mediocre
The first shrek is my favorite but 2 is everything a great sequel should be by changing it enough to keep it fresh but also keeping that feel of the first film.
6:20, that’s since the Penguins of Madagascar television series (created after the second movie) was set after The Penguins had returned to the Zoo from Madagascar and routinely engage in similar enterprises so the movie was trying to link the actual penguins from the movies to those types of plots so that the show could be established
My top 5 films: 5th place: Over The Hedge. This film was just great fun, it was funny and such a blast, the characters were cool too. I personally liked the verminator. 4th place: How to Train Your Dragon 2. I liked the dark tone throughout the film with hiccups father dying. Something I was not expecting from a dreamworks movie and it was just so good as well, the action particularly was astonishing! 3rd place: Shrek, this was a nice film and I think it does better than shrek 2 the pacing was just right, the characters were funny and the animation style was good at its time. 2nd place: Megamind, I loved will ferrels take on the main character megamind, it was just too funny and great fun. The antagonist was also great, it was something different which I can respect 1st place: Kung Fu Panda 2. This was just too great I don't know how to describe it. It was just so cool and dark compared to the other two. I would go on to say so much about this film but there's just too much to say it's defo underrated
Hot take, I liked the first KFP 1 over 2 because i think that Shifu is an amazing character, I just love him. Because he gets sidelined in the second film, I like the first more. But I absolutely adore them both.

7:57, Lord Farquaad was eaten by a dragon at the end of the first movie. Fairy Godmother turned to bubbles at the end of the second. 11:44, I honestly liked Sinbad’s redemptive arc. He acts like the selfish character that he is for most of it but in the end he turns out not to be that guy “can you love a man who would run away” (though I acknowledge that Proteus is more likeable.) The problem I’ve got with Sinbad is that it’s not actually based on Sinbad the Sailor from the 1001 Nights and has much more in common with Homer’s Odyssey

The story behind how DreamWorks was started; Jeffrey Katzenberg worked with Disney and did some stuff with Pixar. (Before Pixar really became a company) he pitched the idea for Antz and Disney shut him down. So, that's why he left and started DreamWorks and made the movie. Disney/Pixar heard what was being made and quickly made A Bugs Life, in order to spite Jeffrey.
That's not how the story went at all! First of all, it was "The Prince of Egypt" Katzenberg wanted to be made, but got rejected. Second of all, it wasn't this that made Katzenberg leave Disney, but that Frank Wells (the president of Disney at the time) died and Katzenberg wanted to be his successor, but got turned down by Michael Eisner and Roy E. Disney. And third of all, Katzenberg talked to John Lasseter on the phone and casually asked about the latter's next movie, and he said that he wanted to make what would eventually become "Bug's Life", which was set to be released a few weeks before "The Prince of Egypt" was set to be released. Katzenberg therefore stole this idea and made "Antz", and released it one month before "Bug's Life"

12:03, being eaten alive is a pretty common fairy tale trope. Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk. And the Bergens eventually discover that it actually is possible to be happy without eating a troll.
8:22, I don’t find Miguel and Tollio to be more unlikeable than they’re actually presented as being and at the end of the film, I actually do appreciate their arc.
1:22, Shrek: A Donkey marries a Dragon, Shrek 2, The Donkey and Dragon have children despite being a mammal and a reptile, Shark Tale, a Fish and a Crab fall in love (at the end), Madagascar 2, a Hippo and a Giraffe get together, Over the Hedge, a Skunk and a Cat get together. Also Barry and Vanessa never actually get into a romantic relationship in the Bee Movie. During the hearing, Vanessa is disgusted by the idea that Barry is “your little bed bug”.
The Road to El Dorado this low? Funny how tastes differ. It's actually pretty funny imo just because of its self awareness. And it's one of my favorites of all time, because I know almost the entirety of the Dutch version out of my head.

33:44, I was still reading the books when the movie How To Train Your Dragon came out and my biggest gripe with it is that it’s not actually based on the book
I personally love both the books and the movies. I think the plots of the books work perfectly for how they were designed to be read. I like the story changes in the movies however, because I think it works much better in the medium of film. I don't even know why I wrote this, kinda just wanted to gush about how good httyd is
My girlfriend died February 27, 2019, and the first movie I saw afterward in a theater was How to Train Your Dragon 3 (released February 22). It's just one of those things where you don't know what to do with your life afterward, (and I still have no idea), so I went and saw this movie in a week that's otherwise blocked out from my memory and I've never felt so lonely. I cried quite a bit, and this was just a heart wrenching time to see the sweet and special love story play out in the final film of the trilogy. Kind of silly, but How to Train Your Dragon is kind of sacred to me.

Abominable is SUPER underrated, so glad to see it get some love in this video! I also think Rise of the Guardians is underrated, and I find Jack Frost to be one of the most relatable characters I've ever seen in film for me personally.
Abominable didn't really do it for me. It was really good during the first 30 minutes but then it started going downhill, the yeti being able to do littetaly anything the plot needed him to was kinda lame, and the villain doesn't do anything through the movie. But that's my opinion
I like it a lot but most of the criticism seems to be, aside from not liking Allen in general, is that it's too edgy without being funny enough to justify that.

Shrek 2
Yess. Rise of Guardians is severely underrated. Star studded cast, great animation, engaging concept, and an emotional core with intense moments
Spirit is such a good movie man!! The fact that there’s so little talking but it still so entertaining is insane. There’s a beautiful story about friendship that builds up throughout the movie and the music is just amazing! I recommend to those who haven’t seen.
Spirit Is totally my favorite animated movie

Agreed
Yes…but it’s his list. He can decide if an unlikable protagonist is enough to drag down a film for him.
Just happened to disagree with some of his 🤷♀️
@@faiththatseeksunderstanding Obviously… but we’re also allowed to voice our opinions about said list. He openly invites it.
That's why he ranks cars and megamind so low.
Kung fu Panda 2 has one of the most terrifying and relentless villains in an animated movie that's mainly aimed for kids
Something that annoys me with Dreamworks movies is that the quality is so inconsistent with great films like Shrek, Shrek 2 and Kung fu panda, bu then bad films like Shrek the third and bee movie hp(although I’ve only seen like 22 Dreamworks movies)

@Eli Williams Hmmm, thinking abput that. . .
I do know they made Prince of Egypt into a stage musical recently. It certainly earned that adaptation.
Probably so they could make new computer animation without completely saturating that market. But they probably will later on.
6:20, that’s since the Penguins of Madagascar television series (created after the second movie) was set after The Penguins had returned to the Zoo from Madagascar and routinely engage in similar enterprises so the movie was trying to link the actual penguins from the movies to those types of plots so that the show could be established
My top 5 films:
5th place: Over The Hedge.
The antagonist was also great, it was something different which I can respect
