You can tell the Knights put a lot of thought and effort into their videos! This one is no different. Glad you guys enjoy the Talon as much as we do! 🏍💨
I like the T35 and T45 rear tires. They are good enough to get the job done. I’m not really fond of the Tusk T35 front tire for me , but front tire feel is really a personal thing.
I took the Tusk Emex 34 (front) T35(rear) out for the first time into some trails in the sierras 2 days in a row and they held up great; mix of dirt, roots, loose sharp broken granite gardens, mud, granite domes with steps and loose DG. Same trail has chunked many knobs and many flapping knobs off the Dunlop MX33 on the first ride many times over the years. I’ll take the tusk. I know the Dunlop fans will reply with, “yeah, but when you get a good one…!” Well, I’ve never gotten a bad Maxxis and this is my first set of Tusks and they’ve already done better than any of the dunlops I’ve tried.
Awesome explanation and execution! Great video guys!
Love your videos! Thanks for the info!
I think it all comes down to familiarity. From the video, the Dunlop did a few of the things better but if your consistently riding the Tusk and know where that edge is for the lean angle, where the braking points are, etc you’re going to be able to push more on it cause you know it well. That’s the main reason I stick with the same tire from Kenda everywhere cause I’ve ridden it so long I know how it’ll perform in pretty much any condition.
predictability is one hell of a drug !
I agree. Being comfortable with the equipment you’re using is super important, and familiarity = comfort.
I really enjoy your family uploads. I can not longer ride much due to my age and broken body. Good upload. Excellent analysis.
Glad you like them!
Excellent Info and review!
Man, you guys do such a good job on your videos. Excellent explanation and top notch video production! I love Josh's input. He is an experienced guy and i trust what he says. Thanks guys!
Glad you like them!
The thing about Dunlop, is they are always doing rebate deals. A local shop by me does a rebate thingy like once a month. I just buy a new set once a month and I get mailed a $50 dollar rebate card every time. I really only ride the track. So a set of tires lasts for well over a month worth of track days.
I tried the tusk. I have to say it held up well. I ride mostly woods/enduro. It did wear out when I rode on some pavement to get from trail to trail. Other than that not a bad purchase. If money is tight I say tusk.
Great review!
Nice video. I like the Tusk rear tires. The T35 works great for the tracks I ride. The lean angle is a very critical part for me with front tires and I tried both Tusk and Dunlop but neither worked as well as the Michelin intermediate enduro front tire. I can save a little on the rear tire and I'll spend a little extra for the front.
Great review! I have tried all the Tusk except the Talon. I,m on a 500 EXC. T45 last the longest in my area Especially on high speed areas.(Nicaragua) The Recon is awesome for Rocky Hills.
The Dunlop MX14 tire I bought this spring is the best rear tire I've ever ridden. Money well spent.
The new Scoop tire from Dunlop is awesome! We raced with that tire earlier this year
is it a good mud tyre ? or is it better in sand situation ? usually a star cross guy. but seen this tyre used a lot. cheers
Both sand and mud that tire just grips! Love my mx14 came from a pirelli mx soft
@gord6695 I'd love to see an actual shootout between all the scoop/sand tyres in deep sand as I run the Michelin myself and wouldn't mind changing if it's worth it. Just as long as the test isn't done on Socal hardpack like Keefer did with the scoops haha
@@tcmx712 yeah i feel this scoop tyre wouldn’t last long on a hard pack ground ? got an enduro the weekend and i’ll be changing the tyre are this. just need something consistent what doesn’t fall apart 🤣 100 a tyre shit starts to get expensive with the rest of the hobby 🤣
Great video and wow what an incredible place to ride!
Good stuff!
That riding area looks so good! Not to many rocks
What a great video. You did a fantastic job showing the difference on everything and where they both excel
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've only tried the Tusk recon and talon but both struggle at braking. Everyone I've talked to about them have felt the same way
The Idaho city race sounded great. I’m glad it was an electric bike lol,.
I've been running the Tusk T 45 rear in the Nevada desert for a a year or two now and it works great, although not as good as the Maxxis Desert IT. The front I didn't like as much and prefer the Shinko 546. The Tusk Crossbite wasn't that impressive, haven't tried the T 35's yet.
I’ve been happy with the Recon on my old bike. When my tires wear out on my new 2022 Beta 300rr I’ll go with the Tusk 45.
I’m running this tire on my 300RR race and it is an awesome tire front and rear
I used to try to run gummy tires whenever possible. Nowadays I just simply trail ride and don’t need that kind of traction and run tubliss. I’ve tested both gummy vs non gummy, and I’ve landed on a Kenda Washougal 2 or Dunlop MX33s.
Glad to hear you’ve done some of your own tire testing. Both are great tires
Washougal II's are awesome tires, great on the track and trails. Most people around here run millvilles, they seem to wear out way too fast
You get what you pay for, as my old Pappy used to say. I’ll stick with Dunlop on my KTM 690 Enduro R. 👍🏻👍🏻
The Tusk tires are good, all my friends turn their noses up at them but they are the same guys that have all the silly bling parts all over their bikes. Ive ran them without issue
I know a couple guys who acted the same way… and they were bitching about having to change tires before every 3rd ride and then tried to make fun of my tusks saying I had to change my tire every ride to keep it fresh… their faces when I told them I was on my 12th ride on the set and still hadn’t chunked off any side knobs they shut right the hell up.
I would more specifically like to know the difference in weight. The rotating unsprung weight has a big impact on acceleration, deceleration, the gyro effect when leaning into a corner, and the ability for suspension to react to bumps. How much could you feel the weight difference? I remember running budget sedonas and they weight a lot more than the dunlops.
If you were strictly running MX on a two stroke and you wanted to keep the rear planted better, would your recommendation change? You have to buy the tire too - so not a hypothetical question. What are you going with?
Been thinking about a wider tire for the rear. Maybe a 130 or 140/18. Thoughts? I'm still a beginner so any and everyone with some advice would be appreciated.
I have a friend with a 300 Beta, running a 140 (wide) tire on the rear and swears by it. More tire on the ground and sticks out past the rim for even more traction in certain terrain. I'm on a 250 dual sport, use for commute but a lot of trail riding. 6ft and 265lbs of man. Any advice appreciated.
Its mostly the rider but ya tusk tires are pretty darn good . Good enough that the average rider can't tell the difference if the pro s can barely tell.
The Recon is a good choice for the Sierra Nevada mountains.
This is a no brainer, if the cheaper tire performs 95% as good as the higher price tire, go with the cheaper tire, because it's 95% as good, and you can run 3 of them as long as 2 of the higher price tire. It's called math, and you are stupid to waste money on the higher price tire when you do not need to.
That’s pretty much how we feel a lot of the time! It’s nice being able to have new tires more frequently! It allows riders who don’t often enjoy that experience the opportunity to afford new tires more frequently
I've done 7 mix races of woods/moto on my 22 crf250r with a dunlop mx33, and only 1 so far on the tusk emx35, I definatly noticed a braking difference in the rears more slip from the tusk definatly had good a good push going forward though, I will definatly be buying another tusk rear if this makes it 5 more races 😂
When slowing down, do you downshift with or without the clutch?
@@bunnyman6321 I usually always use the clutch to downshift. But other riders may have a different style or opinion.
@@motoxman568 I use to use clutch; now I don't. I use clutch to upshift though.
How soon do you downshift when you need to downshift after applying brakes?
I would take a tusk tire any day over a dunflop!
If you do any aggressive riding or racing those tusks tires work well but wear out quick.
Yup, the chunkflops are terrible. They’re awesome for the first 15minutes while they still have knobs on them.
Could you comment on the thickness of innertube that you actually use?
Hi Josh, my son Preston and grandsons Parker and Ammon sure think the world of you at Idaho City.
Nice comparison and good racing! Any reason your brakes squeak so much? Are you just breaking really hard or that’s your adjustment. I don’t really hear it in other videos.
When they get hot they squeak, especially brembos
I truly wish someone would do the same Comparison but Hoosier IMX25's vs the Dumblops. Will you Please do a comparison between the Dumblops and Hoosiers????
I haven't tried a tusk on the dirt bike yet but have a set of the terrabites on my sxs and for 6 months use they have been excellent
whats it like going from china tires to like a fat knobbley on back and maccis maxxcross si on front
I use tusk for training and dunlops for race day. The tusk are amazing nice even taken them off freestyle ramps and they were predictable and excellent when it came to traction and durability
Always been a Dunlop lover because of their lean angle traction. Their tires are always predictable in pretty much every way throughout their lifespan.
Hi Josh,
Have you ever tried the Dunlop AT81 and if so your thoughts? Mainly the rear as most people do not seem to like the front AT81.
Cheers 🍻
I enjoyed the front and rear 81s when i had a set. I like the m59 best as a front and am less picky about the rear and usually run something cheap.
Yes I've spent a fair amount of time riding the AT81 although not very recently. I don't mind the tire, a lot of people say they dislike the AT81 but any time i've ridden with it I've had a good experience and had good traction
I'm a fan of the At81, they do fine.
I just haven't gotten along😮 with Dunlop's since they dropped the 752 .....work well for 2 or 3 rides then the traction is gone. They don't seem to wear , just don't hook up....I stopped throwing money at them ......
Mx33s. All the way for the fronts.
Tusk front side knobs gone in the first couple rides... Been about 10hrs on the mx 33. Still no knobs missing.
If you think Dunlops are good, ride a set of Maxxis Desert IT. Better in every way and it keeps its edge a lot longer too.
I still think it is mainly the rider,, the Indian not the arrow
We’ll said
Cool saying and all but what if it's the same rider??? It may be the Indian but a straight arrow still shoots better than a bent one
@@tcmx712Exactly
Il tell you tho a bent arrow never will fly straight but the tusk might be good one
Tires are the single most important modification you can do to improve the performance of your bike.
What are the chances of getting you to compare the tusk tires to shinko tires?
That's a good idea. Maybe we should do a 2023 Off-road Tire shootout
That grass track seemed rather long this year
10+ minutes was pretty long! It was awesome
Please do the same test with the Dumblop vs. the Hoosier IMX25.
sherco runs a 140 in the rear....why are you using a 110?????
The way you ride anything with a mouse would be ok for a ride maybe two.
I did some long (4000 mile) BDR dual sport comparisons of the Dunlop D606 and Tusk DSport: ua-cam.com/video/n0R8EJMST2c/v-deo.html
TLDR, the Tusk tires are great value for the money.
I'm not a fan of Dunlop MX33's at all. They're way too soft and flexible with hardly any sidewall strength. I swapped a T-45 on the back of my '21yz450f, and it's much better for my needs. Maybe for a 250cc 2 stroke on a groomed track, mx33's are fine. But for a 200lb rider on 450 that sees alot of rocky hard trails, the T45 all day. Also, tire pressure anywhere below 20psi for me on mx33's was super sketchy.
The mx35 is a good tire for the first 10 hrs, but once the driving edge is gone it's toast. At least in my experience.
Boy, those tires almost look identical, like Tusk knocked off Dunlop, (including also the "block in a block technology".). Of course it will be cheaper with out the R&D, (and probably made in china). I also consider it theft.
Those brakes sound.....
A 60 $ rear not as good as the 100 it's better than the bald one you have on the bike.
You should have weighed them
100 dollar tire that’s cheap try buying racing tires for super sports $400 last about 4 sessions
there is no chance in hell you prefer tusk product over any other if you have the money, you get what you pay for with tusk junk
Well that must be some good tusk junk if Josh was able to take the win on Saturday of IC 100. Now granted this probably has more to do with skill than the tire, but still, the tire is very capable.
I've been happy with the Tusk REAR tires I've run (haven't ran one on the front)
It may be worth the extra cost for some riders, for us and the type of riding we do the Tusk tires are performing well. They’re good enough to win on.
You're telling men how they really think?! You're full of yourself. Grow up, move out of mommies basement, and then come try again but act like an adult.
I watched 3 minutes, that's all I could stand. I guess There won't be 16 minutes worth of info here. 2 minutes MAXIMUM should be enough time for this.
Strange because I am on the fence about both of these and I listened to all 15 mins and found it helpful. Try to be polite maybe.
don't see the reason for annoying music....done after 2 minutes of watching
you need to swap out those squeaky ass brake pads...
