- This is the long version of the launch advert for the 3rd generation Rover 200, the R3.
It was filmed in New York with the concept being based on "An Englishman Abroad" by Quentin Crisp.
The music is obviously by Sting.
I remember watching the Italian version of this commercial in 1995. Brings back memories.
Rover had the best car badge of all time. never driven one, Land Rover owner here, but still.
the movements of the car, maneuvering of the car is the same after 25 years. yes i own one, the car is so good and feels powerful
Brilliant ad. Remember it well
I grew up with the driver. His names Kevin. I still know him. went to the same school.
Oh wow, you know Kevin Parry. That's actually quite cool. Mind you, I'd rather be acquainted with his character's on-screen girlfriend Kendra Torgan. She's sooooooo cute. Or at least she was then.
Fantastic advert - Thanks for the upload :)
Good memory. Has a 200 company car in 1996.
Fantastic ad, for capturing that NY feel, the song, the 90s atmosphere, etc. But what self respecting, British, Manhattan city slicker, would drive a Rover fucking 200?! And in New York of all places?!. Christ! There’s no wonder they went out of bloody business
Probably best to open the windows now.
How times have changed since the 90s 😞
Probably would have cost him more to ship the Rover 200 over to New York and make it road legal than the car cost new, £5995 I believe they started at .
Well for what it’s worth, they didn’t do any federalisation to the car to drive it in New York. They basically asked permission from the NYC governor, asked the federal government for approval and then shipped it over, filmed for two days then brought it back. After it returned to the UK, this exact car was delivered to Longbridge then transferred to Clark’s of Bromsgrove for sale; with a little backstory behind it, a letter of authenticity and promotional pictures of it scooting round NY to boot. My mum worked there at the time and she sold it to it’s next owner, still have the pictures of it in the showroom somewhere.
