bought it in 1990 at a discount (only €0,99 cd-r and still have it) and nobody listened to it. I was crazy for more than 1 year, then the stonebridge version came out and it went mainstream. For me this original version is the one with that special underground feeling
Never EVER! Stonebridge defines the 1990's. This feels like rehashed 70's with 80's synths thrown on top and an average sax solo. Not bad, but no Stonebridge. Stonebridge was simplistically & magically PERFECT.
Hi Patrick, Here name of the musician who play the synths and work with this song. Fred McFarlane (died September 2016) was a keyboardist, producer, songwriter and remixer. He is perhaps most noted for producing, among others, Jocelyn Brown's classic "Somebody Else's Guy," Robin S.'s "Show Me Love" and Dennis Taylor's "In The Mood."
Wow - so different from the version that blew up lol. It's interesting how this sounds very "80s" to me, but the other one sounds very "early 90s", yet both were recorded within two years of each other at the start of the decade. Not sure if that's cause the Stonebridge version influenced others, or if that brand of house just had its moment in the sun and that track was among them, but as a kid I remember lots of songs on the radio circa '91-'94 that sounded a whole lot like the stonebridge club mix, at least the drums, if not the synth organ bass. There's so much more going on in this track than the remix -- i'm sure the simplicity of the popular version is part of why its still played today and this one...isn't (this version more interesting IMO)
I was just speaking to someone about how from 1989-1992 culture changed so quick... not that's a flash in the pan. Now think of like 2011-2014 or even 2019-2023... not a huge change in music and style and stuff within those ranges! Very interesting
No you’re right. A banger though this is, it would have sounded dated in 1990. The bassline reeks of Inner City’s ‘Big Fun’ and other tribal hiphouse tracks from 1988/89. 1990 was the year of euphoric bleepy bloopy beats, not primitive stuff like this. Think ‘Naked in the Rain’ by Blue Pearl and ‘Anthem’ by N-Joi.
cette chanson est une vraie bombe. La première fois que je l'ai écouté c'était en boite dans les années 90 et depuis je ne cesse de l'écouter à la moindre occasion. Ohhhh le bon vieux temps.
Omg. I'm just discovering the original?! I love it. Especially the 80's synth stabs @1:08. Which sounds exactly like another 80s funk song, but can't figure it out! Shit! Ahhh I can't figure it out. Help me please. EDIT: Figured it out! Jocelyn Brown - Somebody Else's Guy. Yay! Thanks Fred McFarlane for the dope tracks

What's funky about Andrea's story is her saying she heard them playing the organ riff u hear in the 93 remix but that didn't exist when this first was released, so it leads me to think something is off with her story. Either Andrea was lying or she just is just misremembering if that's even a thing. Hear it? There's no organ do do do here at all, there's just here and there some piano/fender sounding stuff but not at the beginning. And this is 3 entire years before that version even existed. And they didn't RERECORD it, it was just another remix. I want to believe Andrea but it's flawed.
@@smurf902The people involved confirm that Andrea sang the demo and there are nearly no differences with the 92 version so she could've recorded this first version back in 1990 and didn't realise of its release until the 1992 mix became huge worldwide. It's funny that she didn't realise about that either, it was her sister who called her saying that's she's on the radio, Andrea said it was 2 years after she made that demo so it makes sense that she recorded this in 1990 and then she realised her voice was on radio 2 years later / in 1992.
Finding this reminds me of when I discovered the original, non-hit mix of "Where Love Lives" by Alison Limerick. It was shockingly different, but pleasant. UPDATE: I just checked to see if that one is uploaded to UA-cam, and I don't think it is anywhere! Someone should upload that one for comparison.

This straight up sounds like a Sonic the Hedgehog BGM track. Considering I grew up more fixated on video games than dance music, I find it so fascinating now to come across music that inspired the music of video games I'm nostalgic for. There's so much out there in the music world to still discover. I don't know whether the composers of Sonic CD and Sonic Adventure and whatever other games had similar music knew of this song specifically and were inspired by it, but it's certainly within the same league.
Michael Jackson wrote the Sonic 3 soundtrack. However, the soundtracks for 1 and 2 were written by the keyboardist for Japanese synth pop group ‘Dreams Come True’. If you listen to their first two albums you can hear quite a lot of similar musical phrasing. There’s a song on the first album that’s straight-up Green Hill Zone!
I mean most of what people consider "video game music" is just European style dance music. The kind that Americans usually avoid which is why they think it's a genre
Weirdly Beyonce has credited McFarlane and George on her new single Break My Soul, because it uses the M1 organ sound...........which StoneBridge employed on the much more famous remix. Someone's got their wires crossed.

Same. And also coming from DJ Mag. All roads lead here 😁

yesh the og is more sophisticated and adult, if that makes sense.

First time hearing this. I'm convinced Robin could sing over a bunch of rocks thrown in the garbage disposal and it would sound like magic!
I love the original so much!
Great version!!
Love the synths from 1:08 on playing Jocelyn Browns ' Somebody else's guy'
There's another melody I can't put on finger on just before that at 1:04

That melody at 1:04 is from ‘Sure Shot’ by Tracy Weber. Roisin Murphy also used it in ‘Let Me Know’

1990 was still very much “80’s” in terms of style, music etc. by 1993 the 90’s was starting to find its own identity and you can see that here.
