    Just came across this vid today and want to say thank you for doing this budget diy. I read through a lot of the comments and most of the nay sayers or "my idea is better than yours" group completely missed the point. Yes netting is more available today than it was 6 years ago and yes it is fairly easy to work with. BUT like you said, it's not as durable. I am curious however to hear back on how well the E6000 held up vs the old tried and true ShoeGoo? One last thing, was there a reason why you didn't show how to tie the string or burlap strips or mention where to get those supplies? Thanks again for the great how-to/diy on a budget.

    For the haters; there are many different ways to build the jacket and pants. This is just one. His points on positioning camouflage are valid. He chooses to build a net, some choose a faster approach by cutting and attaching one. Both will work. One point though... remember a ghillie is essentially a camouflaged overcoat and pants that need to be sized large enough to pull over the uniform you are wearing.... good suspenders are a must on the pants. Also.... the jacket should be long enough to hang to mid thigh or knees..... so having scrim starting high up on your ass almost to the belt line is not necessary.... it will simply be under the coat and add more heat /bulk to a uniform that is already very hot to wear.

    • @davidbanik3488
      @davidbanik3488 9 років тому

      +Cdn0069 No. More parts to rip off and tear off. And there's absolutely no padding for the wear and tear areas. There's no paint over the shoe goo to cover the shine. Just....lots of shit wrong.
      I give him props on trying to build one though. Especially that method as it looks time/labor intensive.
      But learn from people who actually build these things for military sniper school.

    also, the glue is very matte and not "shiny" like regular glues... It's kinda a white mucky look. So a little mud/paint and the covering of the outer layers of many many stripes of jute/burlap conceals it a great deal!
    The reason for this is because it is like "rubber cement" and is not made to "shine" I have used it and it is very good glue to use on ghillies! as well as other things like shoes, shops, woodwork, bushcraft, arts and crafts, in the house, concealing... just read the tube

    I like mostly all of your vids except this one and the only reason being is for what you spent on paracord you could have just bought mino netting while at the store getting shoe goo because that is basically what you made out of the paracord that you now can't use on something more useful !!!

      Shoe Goo is an industrial epoxy adhesive. Takes 12-24 hrs to completely set up and dry. Its really durable. I use it on my skate shoes. If it can hold up to 85 grit sandpaper rubbin against it all day, brush shouldnt affect it any

    Idk if i trust all that shoe goo. How tough is it? One good snag and its all fuct up seems like. Might take more time, but you could layout your grid pattern and sew it all together separately then sew it on to the bdu's. Thread n needle is cheap, light weightand strong. Can pack plenty more very easily. Plus no shine that you have to cover up with smelly spray paint. Plus the bug stuff. But a Ghillie is for hiding from humans and our smell isn't that good so i suppose its just fine. Cool video

      Nearest military surplus store, or amazon. Military surplus stores you can get barely used for pretty cheap ("new old stock" as well). Just don't get the cheap brands from Amazon. Try to get military issue. They'll last a *_LOT_* longer. Probably even decades, if you don't use them often.

    ALERT!!! PEOPLE...DO NOT treat your clothes with permethrin in this manner, ie dont dunk your ghillie in it,; if you feel you should use this then spray only the outside of your ghillie on the day of use!!! This is a really bad idea and here's why. Excessive exposure DOES have severe side effects. Crawling around all day in a permethrin dunked ghillie suit is considered excessive exposure particularly when you are in it sweating and opening up your skin pores to allow it to enter the bloodstream. Side effects include:nausea, headache, muscle weakness, excessive salivation, shortness of breath, and seizures. It is also considered a carcinogen as a side benefit (jk). Yeah it will kill bugs for sure, I used to use it for treating my backyard for fleas and ticks (dogs), but it can make you sick as a dog too. Additionally, it will only kill bugs if they come into contact with it in its wet form, whats not to say they bit you first then died after they ingested your sweat? Permethrin is used because it softens and penetrates the hard shell of certain bugs, affects their respiratory system, and suffocates them. Use some common sense. Now lets move to a more obvious reason, the smell. If you have ever used this stuff it has a very distinctive smell. You are trying to be invisible in the woods, animals and humans (with good olfactory senses) can smell this stuff a mile away. So sure go hunting in a permethrin treated ghillie and see how many animals you get that day. Probability- ZERO.
