During my career as a Scout Sniper, I have mastered the art of how to build a ghillie suit from scratch. The Cobra Hood is a small / compact version of the full ghillie suit, it is a perfect piece of kit for patrols, providing r & s, resupply missions, etc.
The estimated build time for the cobra hood is approx. 7 - 12 Hours
( depending on what level of machinery you have )
Allow shoe goo to dry for a full 24 hours before working with it
    Material List :
1 x Cammie Top (user preference but try to pick a lighter colored camouflage or fabric, and if possible try to get a size up.)
1 x 3' square piece of tan mesh
1 x 3' square piece of rope fish net
    1 x 50' 550 paracord (light colored) - More is always better
Shoe Goo 1-3 Tubes depending on your build
1 x Roll of Burlap Fabric, or 3-4 Burlap Sandbags
1 x 10' of Shock Cord (Elastic bungie cord 1/8")
4 x Cord Locks for shock cord
    *Optional
1 x 2' piece of wire for hood
1 x 2' square of tan cordura fabric to reinforce the chest
If you have questions about the build go ahead and hit us up in comments, and if you end up building your own, we would love to see it! Send us a dm on Instagram of Facebook @reconsurco

I commend your use of shrink tube. That stuff is amazing for the right applications.

Currently making my own version of this out of one of my old acu tops I had. Gunna have to hit that sucker with some tan spray paint to kill the grandmas couch look but when I’m done the coyotes hopefully won’t even know I’m around. Awesome tutorial helped me a lot! 🤙🏻

In your list you show optional 1inch webbing and cordura. Where and how would you implement those in this build? Did you use them at all on this build after the fact? I assume the cordura is for abrasion resistance. What is the webbing for?

Any issue with the rolls of jute twine? Amazon has them, then I'll just cut 18 in strips and tie those in

If stitching and gluing by hand versus the sewing machine. Which method of sewing should I do to ensure that the netting/material is secure. I don’t have any access to a sewing machine here at RTC….

what is your opinion on natural jute vs. synthetic?

    • @reconsurco
      @reconsurco  Рік тому

I think both have a place, but natural is better in my personal opinion, don’t go crazy with it though, veg is important

I think the synthetic is fine just break it in properly and dust it with flat spray paint to kill the sheen. The go back and do a good ghille wash. Take it out to 50 yards and lay it out for an hour have someone else try to spot it. If they can’t you should be good.

The retail version is probably made in China for small children. I was NOT able to get the thing to fit over my winter clothing and was forced to make my own. 🤬
