    I'm from PEI, just a neighboring New Brunswick. The Striped Bass population in our waters have grown enormously in the last few years. The local lobster fisherman get them in the traps daily in the August/September months. Great sport fish for local anglers but a lot of fear mongering by local commercial fishermen as they're Apex predators. I love them though! Great video, Elias, always informative!

    The biggest improvement in my opinion was when they started protecting the bunker a few years back, once the bunker really started exploding again the striper fishing really improved especially from the shore, also have seen an increase in other top predator like sharks whales and seals since there’s a large baitfish plentiful again

    I started crushing barbs 40 jears ago while fishing for big carp. Definitely i lost more fish up too 22-23 percent. Then i started to give my crushed barbs a dot of 2 component epoxy just that it had a small bump and loosing fish went too almost normal again. It works for trebles and even circle hooks and unhooking is easy. Maby a trick to try. Good luck and good video.

    Another GREAT outing. You right on two counts, that striper thought he was kitty cat and I wonder if the scent is a placebo? I use 3 scents, mega strike is $$$ always. I like garlic everything in the salt, unfortunately the kittys really like it. I try to find a hot bite then substitute scents and baits. If it doesn't work during a frenzy it gets ditched.

Maybe I'll see you out there someday. Great video as always man. That was a Sturgeon jump there, I frequently see them jump in that region, its also their spawning season and you'll see a lot of the juvenile 3-4 footers just launching out for no reason it's funny.

    It’s been a tough year so far on the raritan, fishing has been very inconsistent. I work on a charter boat out of NJ and any other charter boat will say it’s been a tough year so far. It’s been getting better, if you can get live bunker it’s been very good but netting bait has been very hard, spending 2 hours trying to get enough bait to fish

I asked one giu bait fishing if he got anything said he just got 2 on worms in last 20 mins. I ran to store and grabbed a dozen worms and hit the incoming, figured it was a pretty sure bet for at least a few. Not a touch saw 0 fish come up.

    @Peter-zg3em Місяць тому

    i crush essentially every barb i own. i've had nightmares about walking home at night with a hook in my hand or leg 😅. the real problem for the fish is the rear treble on a small plug, anything they can throat. i think a jig like that is about as easy on a fish as it gets, especially at those temps. hooksets in the jaw or upper lip 8/10 times. running a rear single with a front treble and crushed barbs has done wonders for me as far as releasing fish on high volume days or at night. the only plugs i run with two trebles are pencils. the hooksets are not as consistent with the erratic action of a pencil popper, and the fish strike the rear of the plug which makes the biggest ruckus. skinner did a great A and B comparison and he could hardly land a fish on a pencil with singles. i believe he crushes barbs on most days.

    • @EliasVFishing
      @EliasVFishing  Місяць тому

      Singles on plugs have been tricky for me too. Been crushing trebles barbs for years but I’ll keep doing it on singles now too.

    • @Peter-zg3em
      @Peter-zg3em Місяць тому

      @@EliasVFishing I definitely hook up a little less with singles, and drop a few fish with crushed barbs. On lighter rods Its easy to adjust and keep the rod bent, On big rods I found myself dropping some fish and needing a more supple wrist than I’m used to. Other than the benefits for the fish and the easy release, the greatest benefit for me as an angler is reducing fouling. Singles rarely get fouled. When trebles foul it gives the fish a ton of leverage, almost like they wear the plug like a harness. All of a sudden the fish won’t turn. Anyway, great channel, I learn something or things from basically every video.

    • @keithdoiron9718

      @@EliasVFishing Never cast, always just dropped em over the side if I saw two or more marks. Didn't realize you were that shallow, but done real well with em in 10-25ft. Usually when bunker and or herring are running. Up in Maine we've got all kinds of restrictions on live bait, but the flutter spoons get it done.

    Elias....love your channel and everything you do but I had to stop watching....my back started killing me just watching you with thise stripe. Back in tbe 70's I use to fish for rock fish (salt water stripe) in Tim's Ford lake in Tennessee. It wasn't uncommon to catch 6-8 fish over 40 pounds. Back then we would throw 10-12 inch cotton Cordell red fins which were basically a huge stick swim bait. When they would hit that thing early in the mornings it would sound a like someone throwing a cinder block in the water. Those were my younger days and now with severe stenosis in my spine I can't target big fish anymore. About 5 of your fish in this video would have put me in the hospital. As usual great video.
