    The Micklem bridle isn't designed to be done up tightly. All of the buckles you have to do up are meant to just touch the horses skin. If you look on the original video made by the person who invented the bridle they explain that all of the spots where the bridle gets done up are just meant to be flush with the skin. So you shouldn't be tightening up the drop noseband as it isn't designed for that for future reference :)

    Fletch is a lucky boy to have such a kind owner who is so sensitive to his needs. Beautiful horse too! Really enjoying your videos. Thanks!! BTW you look like you're riding a lot better than you think you are - it really can be hard to get back into the swing of things after a break. For me, the start of every ski season: "OMG why the heck can't I ski for the life of me?" but by the end of the season it's def back to normal haha. I think it's not just practice, but its also the strength as well. When you are't using the muscles they weaken and its suprising how much harder something is when you don't have the muscles you had before!

    The reason your micklem is awkward to fit is that it is too high!! The back strap should sit just in the curve of the horses cheekbone. Try going one hole longer on the cheekpieces. Also the bottom strap should not be tight, you need at least one finger in there for it to function properly. (I had mine fitted the same as yours when I first got it but my saddled refitted it for me and it's so much better now!!)

    The saddle should be up further on the horse. And the girth should be closer to the front legs. The girth where you had it was basically under his stomach

    Love how you tack up and take such care every step. To be honest I was very surprised to hear you say your horse is opening his mouth because the noseband is too loose. It's a sign of something else, hes communicating something to you. You are a very friendly knowledgeable rider, hope you study this symptom and find a solution other that thightening the mouth shut.
    Looking forward to watch more videos.

    Aw, your horse is cute! Yay, stretchy trot. He's doing well for a racehorse you said likes to be forward. :) I'm feeling the same right now. Riding dressage again after a two year break due to surgery and life taking over and I feel like a literal sack of potatoes in the saddle, especially since I'm riding a 4 year old greenbean who is a quite a little wiggle worm. OMG is that a whippet? love them

      +Nancy Wong the micklem bridle is designed a bit differently from your standard, I know that strap looks like a throat latch but is actually more like a nose band, that is why it is done up more tightly

    • @laureljeardoe
      @laureljeardoe 7 років тому

      Anastasia Papazaxaria there are many different ways that you can learn but what I learned is to get a fast trot than pull your out side leg back and give a medium kick

    • @lilliesplash2218
      @lilliesplash2218 6 років тому

      start from a regular trot not a fast one, when a horse tries to start a canter from a really fast trot it's actually harder for their legs to physically start up the canter 👌🏻

    • @ellenbetts7736
      @ellenbetts7736 5 років тому

      Have a nice steady trot and then put your outside leg back and inside leg on the girth and squeeze you should never kick

    my opinion on the bridle that you used is i feel like the noseband pushes on the bit, so when you have contact on them, your putting even more tension on the bit. just my opinion, but i think the bridle does look cool!

      +Taylor Soukup I can't speak for others but I personally don't clip fletch for the look it is for function(that's why I don't clip his legs). He sweats up a lot more than the avg horse so I really have to maintain his coat or he gets irritated skin. I don't mind how it looks but that's just my point of view!
