- You see this guy, this guy's in love with you
Yes I'm in love who looks at you the way I do
When you smile I can tell it know each other very well
How can I show you I'm glad I got to know you 'cause
I've heard some talk they say you think I'm fine
This guy's in love and what I'd do to make you mine
Tell me now is it so don't let me be the last to know
My hands are shakin' don't let my heart keep breaking 'cause
I need your love, I want your love
Say you're in love and you'll be my guy, if not I'll just die
Tell me now is it so don't let me be the last to know
My hands are shakin' don't let my heart keep breaking 'cause
I need your love, I want your love
Say you're in love and you'll be my girl, if not I'll just die
1968, my girlfriend and I were living in Perth, Australia. She had to have her tonsils removed and while she was in the hospital I called a DJ I knew and asked him to play this song for her that night. When I went to visit her in the hospital during the day, I told her to listen to that radio station that night. She did, they played this song and dedicated it to her. We still listen to it today. 52 yrs. and counting.
Awesome story, George! God bless you both!
What a lovely story, George! What a Love you still have, for each other! 😇 I'm really impressed! All the best to you two, George.
That's awesome!
Congratulations on your long lasting love!
Awesome ! Peace love health and happiness to you both xxx
Sometimes a song just comes along at a moment in your life and speaks to you again years later as that moment that matters most. This is one of those. When I met my girl in 1961 this song had not yet been born, but when it came out a few years later I was married to that girl and when I heard it I fell in love all over again with her. Then the years passed and my wife of 53 years has Alzheimer's, the song played on the radio as I drove home from a visit with her in her unit and I burst into tears. Love you, hon.
Tears...
Your comment touched me. Peace and Blessings to you and yours.✌🏾🙏🏾
Robert Chapman.God will carry you.🙏🙏🙏. Love. Wayne.
Bless you Robert ... and cherish the beautiful memories you have shared together. Thank you for sharing this. One of my all time favourite songs also.
Today I turn 63 years old and this song takes me back to a lovely time in my life, too young to truly understand grownup love ❤️ yet but I loved this song! Your words touched me about your wife. Thank you for sharing and God Bless You 💕.
This is one of the most beautiful love songs anyone has ever written.
I couldn't agree more, Miguel!!
Absolutely !! And so beautifully sung
Yes! So quite, so sweet and so lovely!!
That’s a bold claim. An accurate one, though.
My goodness what an absolutely lovely song artists and man‼️🧡♥️👏❣️❣️❣️🥰♥️🧡
In my opinion, the most beautiful song ever written. Superbly sung by Herb Alpert.
Burt Bacharach song..beautiful in many ways!👍
@@carolynwagner4384 RIP Burt. Had the great fortune to grow up with his music. This was among his very best.
@@carolynwagner4384 Did not know it was Burt, but now that you point it out, it's obvious... so well composed.
I absolutely wholeheartedly agree with you ❤😍❤️
One and only song Herb Alpert sang on ..... knocked it out of the park 😊
My grandfather passed 7 months ago, such a beautiful calm soul he was. My mother is a daddy’s girl, she listens to this song sometimes and gets teary eyed while she makes dinner. Listening to this song on this cloudy and cold NYC morning… remembering my grandpa. Thank you for posting this. Many blessings to everyone reading. ♥️
While Burt Bacharach and Hal David deserve credit for writing this masterpiece, it was Alpert who took it to number 1 in the US and abroad. Had Alpert never requested from Bacharach, "old compositions that were just laying around," the world may have never enjoyed listening to this gem.
I remember when that song came out. Who would’ve thought Herb Alpert would make this Song the classic it is today.
Along this same thought , I imagine the trumpet lick in this tune was somehow inspirational in the writing of this piece as well...great singing and feel as well , his version, Alpert's, elevates this piece , he owns it
I was born in 1955 and since my childhood I have considered this song the best love song. Still moves my heart to this day.
I so agree. Best lyrics, vocal and arrangement
I too am born 1955 - I'm french and was a year as an exchange student in the state, and as I was a good musician I sang with the high school choir and this was the first title I sang, and I still know it by now because I love this song it brings me back to this very smooth year of my life, where everything seemed possible...
I was born in 1957, and my father had this album and we played it nonstop, so fantastic! Also had a huge crush on Herb Albert, he was so handsome even to my 7 year old self!! 🔥🔥🔥
1955 baby here too...and this song is just timeless. ❤
40 years ago plus a few months this was our wedding song. After 3 kids and 2 grand daughters we are still as much in love as we were back then. Beautiful song ... says it all
I love u Herb
So happy for you MJ & TA. A love like yours is what life is all about! Some people are made for each other, some people can love one another for life. God has smiled upon you both!
I danced with my wife to this song at our wedding. We were friends in high school, stayed in touch for 10 years after graduating, and then drifted from each other for 20 years. We reconnected for our 30th HS reunion, became a couple, and happily married.
Awesome story. Congrats!
It’s been decades since I heard this beautiful song. This rendition makes me teary-eyed with a lump in my throat. Deeply wish for that kind of love- timeless and profound.
I never found it either....😞
Same here, maybe one day! 😒😔💔
@@sekenamcmurren2217 I'm too old now...😞
Memories
Searched for it all my life and never found it anyone that loved me deeply and loyally. Maybe in heaven.
Great trumpet player put down the trumpet and recorded his best song ever.
I don’t think he put it down. He just added a singer. He still plays his trumpet in the song.
@@rkede1879 Herb sang it, he played the trumpet in parts
Totally
I was 8 years old when this song was new and all over AM radio. NOT my preferred genre at the time..Then it ran it's course, FM radio became a thing and I listened to my own dance music preferences thru the decades. Took many career paths, life changes, now retired, and found myself becoming a performing musician/singer to fill the void...I see things much differently and this song and it's era had imprinted on me w/out realizing it. I now find myself learning this song, bringing me to tears as I fully take in the lyrics. I plan to perform it at my best friends wedding celebration in 6 months.
I'm 52 and I can remember growing up on this song - my parents loved Herb
I’m same age. I remember as a kid in the 70’s this song playing on the radio in my dad’s shop.
I'm 62 and I was brought up listening to him. My parents had his LP. Great music!
43 rd 👍 My Mom liked this song, too. 🥲
My dad rasied me his on music took my dad to see them one time he was surprise. Got the records good old 60s music. Miss you dad
One of the greatest songs ever right here..
Herb Albert ..FANTASTIC..
😢🙃❤️🎈
This song always makes me cry...
I lost my love on 3/6/22, he would have been 45 in three more months. He was a trumpet player, loved Herb Alpert, and sent me this song to show his love to me. I'm glad Herb Alpert can sing because my love couldn't sing a drop. I would have fallen in love with my love even if I knew I would lose him the way I did. He promised he would never stop loving me, and he hasn't, even though God needed him back. He was too good for this world, and I know when I see him again it will be like we were never apart. All my love to my love....
❤
love
I have tears. God Bless you.
My heart goes out to you! Tears in my eyes
🥲
Say what you will, this beautiful Bacharach/David song has withstood the test of time. It just grabs hold of you!
Lost the love of my life, and this song reminds me of us and the time we had together. ❤️❤️❤️
stay strong
Deeply affected by this song while in college in 1969. Wonderful memories!
Perhaps the most beautiful song of the 1960s, like seriously wow.
This reminds me of a girl I loved dearly back in the late '60's early '70s. We were to be married but it fell apart for a number of reasons.. She is special and will remember her always.
I remember as a child this song was an easy listening staple in the 70’s
Light FM in NYC 106.7 all in the 80’s.
This song makes my heart melt
One of the coolest songs that many won't admit that it truly is.
Damn I love that song! Brings back so many memories from back in the days. Such kinder, friendlier times…
Yes. That is so true!!
Loved this song since childhood!
RIP Burt Bacharach. Thank you for your wonderful compositions ❤️🎶😢
Grew up listening to Herb as my parents loved and danced with that sparkle in their eyes
LOVE THIS SONG Burt Bacharach, RIP February 08, 2023!!! You will be missed Mr Burt Bacharach!!!
This is just one of the many, many beautiful songs we can thank Burt for, but it's definetly my favorite....
Herb is such a beautiful man with that delicate sentimental touch. I used to hear this song in my teens and still feel the need to listen to it on rare occasions when I'm alone. It speaks to one's soul. 😌 Burt Bacharach really knew his craft.
My god. If this song doesn't just reach out and grip you, you're listening to it wrong.
The amazing chord progressions...
You have to listen with your heart to appreciate this song.
One of THE great songs .... no doubt whatsoever about that, its absolute class.
Released in April of 1968. The first number 1 for Alpert, the first number 1 for his label A&M and the first number 1 for Bacharach and Hal David in America.
No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart in June of 1968, remaining in the top position for four weeks.
The song also spent ten weeks at No. 1 on the Easy Listening chart.
After my BELOVED Dave Transitioned almost 10 years ago, this song came on the radio many times when I was driving in our car & imagining Dave in the passenger seat ( like we did lots) . I could actually "hear" Dave singing along . Got "GOD bumps" all over legs & arms! Many tears ! Yet I felt comforted. Thank you for this song.
My God Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass was such a great group of musicians. The young people of today will never experience the good times all of us Old Timers had in the 1960’s. Thank You Herb and Rest In Peace.
Herb hasn’t passed away.
Herb and wife Lani Hall are thankfully still with us!
I agree, I was 15 in 1968. The first time I heard this song it woke up my heart to love. When I fell in love and heard this song again, after my love passed it gives me peace and my memories of once being in love flow through my mind. Beautiful, beautiful song.
Herb Was Perfect To Sing This - It's A Great Song I Remember From Back In The Day!🎶🎺😍
I love this. Takes me back to the 70’s, my parents had a flamenco club in San Francisco. Great memories
Each time I hear this song, I couldn't help myself but shed tears. I married my wife in 1989 (June 1st) with this song as one of our favorites. The passage of time never made us outgrow liking this song. As we were excitedly planning for our silver wedding anniversary, God took her back home in 2012 (Jan 16th). It's now 2022 and I still miss her!
just thank God for the times you've spent together...i do since my husband died 4 yrs ago...
@@ginalim3899 thank you for the words of encouragement!
Sorry for your loss
I heard this song for the first time when my sister in the late 60s sent us an LP of Herb and his band. She passed away in California in 2017 and listening to this songs bring so much memories of her and her life.
Beautiful, no words to fully express, the love I feel, when I listen to this Song!!!
Of course, we cannot overestimate or praise too much the actual musicians (except the trumpet, that was Herb) on this recording, THE WRECKING CREW
I think they also played on MacArthur Park, just happened to hear that right after this on the radio the other day
Man, this song is timeless! Whenever I get married Im playing this at my wedding. Such a classy touch. Thanx Herb, Mr Bakarack and the other dude!
Herb Albert on Trumpet 🎺
I think the lyrics were by Hal David, if that's the other guy you reference 😊
JOY~PURE JOY! This sounds even better in 2022!
This song is a real Burt Bacharach and Hal David masterpiece!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Masterpiece. RIP Burt Bacharach
If your marriage is still going strong in this day and age, hold it close, cherish it, do whatever it takes to keep it intact and strong. I lost my wife to cancer 21/2 years ago. We had almost 49 years of earthly marriage. Separated for now, but when I get to the other side of the veil, we’ll be together in a Celestial marriage for Eternity. This song reminds me of how much I miss you, your hugs & kisses, your laughter, your spirit, your sense of right & wrong, and how much I love you💜
I lost my husband of 51 years. This song still resonates. A partner's love is forever. Peace and comfort.
@@vivianfranco9807 and to you Vivian.
Thank you Mike. 🙏🏼
@@vivianfranco9807 my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband. I totally understand how you feel, and how much you must miss him.
Thank you. Peace and comfort.
So many years later & i still love this song
Perfect song to fall in love with on the dance floor..what a timeless classic.
Back listening again...getting my daily dose of this magical song....so beautiful !
Was my first song at my wedding 10/30/21. Oh my goodness. It was perfection. I love it so much. ♥️
I remember when that song came out. It was beautiful and timeless then, and it still remains beautiful and timeless today, 2022.
So many great singers sung this song, some how Herb’s voice gave me a very wonderful feeling and memories!
I just heard this song today and I love it. I can't get that melody out of my head...
crazy lopp in rock it is very catchy, it is a song of me childhood, sooooo many happy memories
Normally I'm not crazy about songs from the 60s, but I heard this at my job, and it took my mind off the stressful shift, and had me wishing that someone would speak to me like this some day.
This guy is an Artist beyond Perfection.
Such a beautiful song, Burt Bacharach was a musical genius. My fiancee and I are having this as our first dance song at our wedding next year (April 2024) although she doesn't know this yet. We're both in our late 50's and have been together for 7 years now. We've been around the block a few times, taking life's knocks on the way. She is the most amazing woman I have ever met. Loving, Patient, intelligent, level headed, and simply beautiful. I love her with all of my heart, and am so lucky to have met her at this point in my life.
Dionne Warwick did a rendition of "This girl", but Herb made it sound so personal, and that was the magic.
Comment section is full with beautiful and heartfelt stories. 💖
My Dad just turns 90 July 13th. Had an amazing, singing voice! He performed all over. He loved, and sang this song often. Lost his voice. But, the beautiful memories are still there.
Another absolutely fantastic artist and song. Never get tired of listening to this.!!!!!!
I just love love love this song ❤brings back so many memories 😊
Life was so good in the 60s and 70s. The world really is starting to suck. We were so free and did not have to worry about anything. How blessed we were.
You bet!
Back in the 60's and 70's you were much younger and didn't have the responsibilities you have now. You didn't know much or care as much about politics, world events, or even money. Yes I can see how you may have "felt" more free back then, you were blessed because you were young and probably not poor.
Hate to tell you this…the world was much safer, more moral and America more great when Trump was in office. You don’t have to like Trump’s personality in some ways, but he loved America and was a great President. And the evil, radical, Leftist Democrats stole that Election and are in the habit destroying this sovereign nation.
I was racing down La jolla blv. and cop stopped me. I was 14. I told him , I had to make it home before lamp lights came on. You won't make it, he said. Throw your bike and surfboard in back and see if i can get you home before you get in trouble. He dropped me off half black away ,so i would not get busted by parents. He waved good bye and that was it. 70s. I know it says more about that particular cop but still, he had freedom to do as he wanted.
You are right Marsha.
♥️ Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World…last song! Glad to remember and appreciate this song again.🥰
The boys in the band brought me here. i hope whoever is reading this. i hope and i wish you will be happiest person alive ❤️❤️❤️ this song gripped my heart 😁
Achyut, that's so sweet of you 🥰
TBITB brought me here, too. Since I watched it. I speak about my wife!!! in front of people. Before I just said friend. (Btw, I'm a woman)
BESTIE SAME I WENT FOR ANDY RANDY THEN CAME HERE AND NOW IM SOBBING
exactly the same! i hesitated for months before i watched the boys in the band. so eventually i did this morning. and fell in love with a song i last heard as a child. and reminded me of the mountain where i stood a week weeks ago, having a view in different directions.
oh man…the colors…the sounds…feelings…feelings…oh the feelings.
A 39 year old woman and I've only heard this song for the 1st time tonight, clearly I've been living under a rock, so happy I've found it now... just love it, 💘❤x
I first heard it on the radio when I was 8 years old and I'm 60 now. It's never too late to join the party.
Don't feel bad , I'm 44 and just heard this song for the 1st time within the last year .

I love this song by Herb Alpert. Can't imagine anyone else singing it!
Goodbye, Burt. What a master.
Hearing this song brings back such wonderful memories of my dad playing this.
17 years ago while dating my wife I bought her an iPod. I downloading this song on it and gave it to her. It has been our song ever since.
I've loved this song all my life so beautiful! Thank you so much for posting this timeless classic 💞
Don't know if Burt Bacharach or Herb Alpert made the decisions but the harmonica is such an understated and absolutely disarming and lovely addition to this recording (and Herb's understated and beautiful voice!!!) This is one for Wiki - whoever it was -- thank you for such a fine and timeless arrangement. Brings me back to early Burt B. specials on TV when Stevie Wonder was playing his chromatic harmonica improv on the piano bench with Burt - melting Burt and everyone lucky enough to be watching and listening to tears with its sweet voice. Maybe that's how the notion came along. Anyone? oh, and thanks for the lyrics, I have to sing and play it solo at a wedding on Sunday! P =]
Y’all can thank Burt Bacharach for this masterpiece.
Don't forget about Hal David, he wrote the lyrics. Burt wrote the music.
so timeless. decades later hear it in a 2003 movie 'miranda'
@@19iamnobody83 ... You are right and it's not easy to write lyrics on a music that
it was written and thought out without a text and which is different from a ballad and / or a pop song.
Yes, man. Burt Bacharach is fantastic.
No one can miss that this is a bacharach song.
I love this song 💙
Middle of the road monster hit, for Herb, still sounds great today, and tomorrow.......
me atrevo a decir que está canción alimenta mi espíritu de una manera hermosa.
