I will say that I played it on the Xbox, and within the first few levels my muscle memory from back when I was a child playing the PS1 kicked in and I realized it controls exactly the same as the original. I would be baffled if the Switch version was really any different from the Xbox One or PS4 versions, at this point the Switch has basically the same button layout any other system does. I think its safe to trust other reviews already out on the remaster for this game in particular, though I will also add that as someone whose first console game was the first Spyro I am not preordering in case some major screwup happens andIwill wait at least a few days though I definitively plan on getting it. It is a great game I definitely recommend it.

i noticed that too, as a person that has beat both Crypt and Cadence. Id say its to its benefit though, crypt of the necrodancer is more of a classic roguelike where your goal is to get as deep as possible and overcome hard challenges, but Cadence is more like an adventure and i think having lesser challenge helped it not feel too hard to beat and really gave me a sense of progression vs how crypt made me feel. but at the same time nothing can beat the euphoria of finally beating the final boss in crypt.

It's pretty tight how you can appreciate a game that may not entirely be for you! Not many youtubers/game reviewers are able to seperate that fact. As someone who really likes games that allow a lot of freedom and meaty goodness, I'm glad you were able to bring up this games good points effectively

Your reviews are always great! You don't blindly gush like some other youtubers. You have good, constructive criticism and always do a great job conveying your thoughts!

The roguelike term is absolutely suitable. Not only the dungeons, but the entire world map is randomized each time you start a new game. It's what makes speedrunning a bit more interesting because there's always a searching aspect to the runs. Add to that really clever item usage (every dungeon has some skips if you're ingenious enough) and this is a really cool speedrunning game.
I will say though that not using Zelda is a bit ridiculous considering how insanely broken Nayru's Love is, you can reflect every attack with it.

The thing to remember with how the levels are designed is that it's "Crypt of the Necrodancer with a coat of Zelda paint", like Hyrule Warriors was. The dungeons have a zelda style and look to them, but are more closely akin to the design in Necrodancer, where the whole game was dungeons and there was no overworld.

I played through this game once, and it was pretty darn fun! I basically played as Zelda through the whole game since my world layout kinda sucked a bit and I didn't actually find Link or unlock Cadence until I'd already beaten 3 bosses and cleared 80% of the map. I also never unlocked Yves because I missed the bombable wall in the Lost Woods that had like 8 Deku scrubs in it until I'd already beaten the game. Whoops. I usually stuck to using spears since that extra tile of range made things way easier, especially the obsidian spear because I was usually pretty good at staying on beat and keeping up that triple damage combo. Except for Gleeokenspiel, I used an emerald flail after several attempts with a spear since I kept getting overwhelmed with trying to get in front of a head for the hit and then out of the way before he blasted lightning, and with the poison damage it still dealt 3 points, just spread over several turns. My strategy was basically hit and run, quickly poison 2 heads and then dodge lightning until the poison wears off, repeat til he's dead.
