Were Wii U Owners Abandoned by Nintendo?

- Was it fair for Nintendo to move on from the Wii U so quickly? Should they have tried harder to make it a success? Did they keep their promise to satisfy its customers? Let's give the topic a little chitty-chatty-chit-chat.

Wii U owners- Nintendo abandoned us!
PS Vita users- Welcome to the club...
That hit a tad too close to home
The Vita was practically abandoned before it left the womb.

My only issues with the Wii U ports are their inflated prices. $60 for an 8 year old game is dumb.
8 year old? The Wii U came out in 2012.
chrisbyerly 7 year old game lol either way does it matter?
@@izrealtruefelicis3309 when basically nobody has played it relative to the switch's audience, is it really even an old game?
I've said before that when a game gets ported from the Wii U to the switch it's basically like it's been released for the first time, and I stand by that. Now whether or not AAA games should be $60+ in general, I have a different opinion but on the topic at hand, I dont think its unreasonable for them to charge typical AAA price for games that sold practically nothing in their initial run.
Secular Ascetic Yeah that’s true. Just wish that they would give discounts sometimes

“Yeah... it’s been great for five years now.”
I know, I kind of burned out on it since I've been playing Mario Kart 8 for so long. That's why I can't wait for Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled to come out, since I like CTR more than Mario Kart and it's different enough.

Can't wait to see if the new sonic team racing is good or not!
The fact they removed the second screen functionality from Breath of the Wild on Wii U as not to make the Switch version seem inferior was the final kick in the nuts to Wii U fans.
It was... especially when games like Pikmin 3 utilized the GamePad to a wonderful level... and to be honest, playing Mario Maker 2 feels less smooth for me, because it just feels better on Wii U... I miss Wii U already to be honest, I'm no Nintendo fanboy, but Wii U to me is more fun to use than my Switch.

I still can't help but find it funny that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the highest selling game on the Switch, just like how the Wii U version is the highest selling game on that console.
New or old, Mario Kart is a dominating force.
Mario Kart 8 Dx is a great game that most people had to double dip or get it for their first time. Its one of the few ports I like on the Switch as it adds a lot of new content and features. I wish other ports follow Mario Kart route of how to be ported.
Mario Kart isn’t really THAT good, that’s only my personal opinion
I thought Zelda was were it’s at
Wasn’t even that good.
Because they give it away free with the console probably
There is one notable Wii U game that will never be ported: Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.
Not for the right reasons, of course.
Probably for the best.
But *scarf*
Maybe but be nice if they ported games like Secret Rings, etc...with game controller support.
Because... SEGA
Hopefully Tokyo Mirage Sessions makes it to another platform...
The Wii U was confirmed dead the moment they released Mario Kart 8 and Smash 4 in the same year and it wasn't enough to save the system.
No number of good games would be enough to save the system. It sucks but Nintendo absolutely did the right thing pulling the plug on it when they did.
smash 4 was so weirdly insulting, it spit in my eye and told me it was my fault it didn't have a story mode, and the AI was so cheap..
@@KairuHakubi 3DS was alright...
KoolAidManOG id say Smash was hurt by being on 3DS as well. @TimDude12 nope no it doesn't. Wii u had way more games than wii.and Wii vc doesn't include ds games Wii u does.
The Wii U technically has something the Switch might not have, all 3 Mother games =-{
Maybe people wouldn't be so mad if they didn't repackage several year old games at full price for modest (at best) improvements.
Very good point. I bought Pikmin 3 at full price on the Wii U. If Pikmin 3 Deluxe came out, with only 1 extra captain and a few more challenge maps, for $59.99, I'd be pretty upset
@@jakobthomas1926 It is especially problematic given that the games that they are porting were themselves successful (by Wii U standards) meaning that they could sell the games at a price discount and not interfere with their bottom line. I loathe how anti-consumer Nintendo is (and gets away with).
Or, in the case of nsmbu, making the game arguably worse.
messihr don’t even get me started on how bad their online services are or the dashboard in general. Actually trash, but they know people buying the console for the games and don’t care about interactivity anymore. The Wii U was very entertainment focused with the Mii Hub and whatnot, but the Switch? Nope! They just trying to get people to buy games by hording their franchises
@@TubemastaC I mean, it works lol why shouldn't they if they have them?
maybe people wouldn't be so strongly against Wiiu ports if they were alot cheaper
that's true cause seriously i do not like how games are costing 80 bucks
Agreed, it's part of the reason I've not gotten a Switch as many of the games are full priced ports that should cost no more then $35 USD. since all they are doing most of the time is having low level programmers recompile the already existing code for the Switch, and compressing it down for an 8GB Switch game card, and the others that are not exclusives I can get a lot of them on STEAM via sales for cheaper, as I don't like the way Nintendo handles digital sales tying them to a piece of hardware rather than an overall account as STEAM does.
This is exactly how I feel. Nintendo obviously should’ve ditched the Wii U for the switch, it’s good buisness. What isn’t good buisness is trying to charge my 60$ for a game I already bought for the same price!!! Paying 60$ for pokken on a new system + dlc when I already owned the damn thing is insane. Porting games is smart, pricing them as they do is also smart cause people still buy them, but damn does it piss me off
Exactly. Nintendo is so goddamn stubborn with sales and price drops compared to other companies. When third party developers port games, they're usually cheaper and they'll still go on sale. But Nintendo thinks they can charge 60 dollars for ports of games that are way cheaper on their last system. So they add extra content and modes like it makes up for the full retail price.
At least out of respect for those who already bought the games on Wii U, drop all the ports to 40 dollars so those people can pick those games up again, enjoy the new content, and not feel like they're breaking the bank for double dipping.
At the end of the day it's just a vocal minority and to the average consumer they're brand new games that they'll be willing to spend full price on, though it would've been nice if Nintendo did something for Wii U owners like giving them a discount on Wii U ports of games they already own.
It was the Wii U's that got us Super Mario Maker 2 on Switch now, so there are some things to thank the Wii U for anyway.
Of course as SMM was so great
Mario Maker is on 3DS
The Plush Mario Bros. Yup, such as making sure we never get a port of Deus Ex Human Revolution for the Switch because it was made for a piss poor excuse of a console first. The Wii U was a pathetic mistake

@@DTheAustralian How?
People : I didn't buy a Wii U because there were no good games for it.
Same people : Nintendo should port over the 40+ great games that was on the Wii U over to the Switch.
André Brynkus Ahahahaha! 😂 Oh the irony.
A few great exclusive games doesn't justify a console purchase. 3rd party is god, and Nintendo learned that the hard way with the Wii U. Most of what people want brought over are 1st party titles for a reason. Name one major 3rd party Wii U title people want brought over? Who wants to play Zombi U? Or how about a graphically inferior version of Darksiders 2 or Arkham City? You say 40+ games... it's more like 15 to 20 at most. It just seems like a lot because 40 titles is basically the Wii U's library.
They brought over bayonetta 1 and 2 and technically breath of the wild (which I didn't even know was originally a Wii U game until some rando told me), so I honestly don't care if they bother to port any more over. Nothing of value has been lost.
I remember that I thought that I was going to wait for Zelda (and for confirmation of being good) to buy a Wii U, but then when they announced the Switch, I just prefered to skip the Wii U, and yep, I want lots of ports but none of those games (ok, DKC Tropical Freeze is a masterpiece, but that game takes some time to appreciate it fully) would have been enough for me to convince me to buy a Wii U. I just think that those games are worth buying and playing, but buying a new console just to play them... that's a different story.
@@warbossgegguz679 Lack of 3rd party support wasn't the only reason the Wii U failed. It was that what first party titles we did get usually either weren't that great (Star Fox Zero) or felt more like or actually were spin-off games of the franchises we really wanted to explore. (Mario 3D Land, Animal Crossing amiibo Festival)
If we lost 3D World in exchange for Odyssey on the Wii U or a similar game, had Breath of the Wild come out as the Wii U exclusive it was originally intended, or got Star Fox Zero without requiring the gamepad and motion controls to play it, or an actual Animal Crossing Wii U game, the system would definitely have done a lot better than it originally did. But lack of third-party support followed by lack of appealing first-party games (Kirby got a sequel to the spin-off Canvas Curse only instead of a platformer like Star Allies) that doomed the thing
@@warbossgegguz679 graphically inferior? They were on the fucking PS3, the Wii u has more capabilities than the PS3.
The reason they were inconsequential is because everyone interested in those games had already played them by that point, or could buy for a platform they already owned.
...could have given us discounts on the games we bought from the eshop that got ported.
And some stores should let you swap games for a price
To be honest I feel like they should allow just straight up redownload on Switch for games that were bought on WiiU (even if it was for digital versions only) and then got a port. WiiU owners would be happy for not having to pay twice for one game, non-WiiU owners would be happy for having ports in the first place. Especially that this could potentially help to get upset WiiU people to buy Switch.

I've always said, the Switch is very clearly what the Wii U *wanted* to be... I couldn't get 15 feet away before it was beeping at me. My Switch however is portable absolute lol. I feel I got a good mileage out of my Wii U, but I'm really frustrated that Nintendo closed down Miiverse so quickly. I get that not a lot of people were using it but without it, a lot of games now have major features that are completely useless or non-functional.
I have no problem with the ports, but I'm not going to buy a game again at full price. It would be nice if Nintendo gave a discount to those of us who already bought the game once.
I totally agree. I already have Mario kart 8 and I’m not going to rebuy the entire game for what is practically some dlc
And I hate that they didn't do a Miiverse successor
It should be that if you bought it online through your nintendo id that you get to keep it forever and download it to any new console you get, its already limited that you can only have your nid on one (current) console at a time
Hello there entitled police. With that logic you should never buy a new phone, console, or computer

Actually a great time to get a Wii U because the systems and games are dirt cheap right now and many of the ported titles are very similar to their switch version at 1/4 the price.
I'm just hoping X2 takes place in the same world, that's the real reason I keep playing the game.
@@NontpNonjo I loved the story in that game. Have you finished Xenoblade 1?

Yeah mega lame best game on Wii U and way better than 2
I think my Wii U purchase was worthwhile since I never had a Wii.
It was definitely worth while to own a U. These games that are being ported are great, and I got to play them years before they hit the Switch. I have nothing at all against these ports, I'm glad more people get to play them. I just wish that the original game output was a little higher. The Switch deserves better than to be a port machine, I want to see more games like Odyssey and BotW. And I'm sure they're coming, it just sucks they're not here yet. Personally I can't get excited for stuff like Kirby, Yoshi and Pokemans. Nothing wrong with simple games for kids (or "kids at heart"). I'm just not a kid at heart I guess, because I don't like those things. But hey, at least there's some cool stuff from 3rd parties coming down the line now.
I don't hate all these ports, but wouldn't brand new original games tailored to suit the Switch's strengths and weaknesses be the best thing? Not only from Nintendo but other publishers as well. I don't need every good ps360 game on the Switch, those consoles still work and I can play them there. I think the only reason we see so much port begging for the system is because of the lack of original games for it. You don't see ps4 owners clamoring for every good last gen game to be ported for that system. I own a ps4 and an Xbox too, those systems get big releases every month. Some first party but mostly AAA 3rd party. New games, not ports. The Switch deserves that too. Not necessarily scaled back, cut down versions of those AAA games but ones made specifically for it.
@@jokerzwild00
I agree 100%. The best games for any Nintendo consoles or portable were ones tailor made for that system.
Most of those were on the portable side, the home console side is more hit and miss.
NES and SNES got tons. N64 and GameCube had a few. The Wii was packed (but also lots of shovelware) and the Wii U was basically abandoned early on by 3rd parties.
Now that we have a portable and home console in one they seem to leaning real heavy on Indies instead of any true exclusives, which is a cheap copout.
I agree. The Wii U opens up a lot of Nintendo's history. Wii games, Virtual Console (NES, SNES, N64, GBA,DS) Unfortunately, Gamecube is no longer included, but still! That's a lot of Nintendo gaming history.
I bought my Wii U a year after my Switch, after they announced they weren't doing Virtual Console. I love my Wii U, but I understand why it had difficulties during its initial lifespan.
@@AC-ze1nh so it doesn't support GameCube in backward compatibility?
I really didn't start feeling burned until 2016. I was a "Nintendo only gamer" so when I got the Wii U, it was an amazing boost in graphics (yeah, people with a PS3 many not have been so impressed, but I was coming off of the Wii). And while I'll admit some disappointment with the number of games released, there was a high coolness factor with the games that used the game pad. Overall, I was mostly happy. But after Star Fox landed like and extinction level asteroid impact, it was shocking how Nintendo really started to abandon the Wii U despite the Switch not being out. They didn't have a single game released for Christmas 2016! I figured we'd get at least a low effort Mario Party. And I know this is a dangerous topic, but with the Switch getting a bunch of Wii U ports, and some of the "sequels" like Splatoon 2 having a shocking amount of recycled content, I got disillusioned and did the unthinkable. I bought a PS4! It's the first non-Nintendo I've bought since the Atari Jaguar in 1994. Of course, I still use my Switch and continue to buy Nintendo games. But the end of the Wii U and the beginning of the Switch really did feel like a slap in the face.
3 generations and NSMBU still looks like it came out in 2009
Gameplay > Graphics
NSMBU plays ok at best. It isn't even the best 2D Mario game, it's merely a competent entry. It does what we expect from 2D Mario, and little beyond that.
There's nothing wrong with liking it, and the game is fun. But I had way more fun with the DKC Returns games than pretty much every single iteration of NSMB, from its humble beginnings on the DS, to its derivative sequels. The art is stagnant, and the gameplay hasn't changed dramatically in the face of some really creative competition.
It's absolutely true that gameplay can, and often does stand tall over graphics alone. But presentation is still a critical element of videogames. This isn't a medium where we should be content to sacrifice one aspect of it to focus solely on another all the time. Games can do better. Nintendo FREQUENTLY does better. The next 2D Mario should abandon the NSMB branding and art entirely, because at this point, it just ain't lookin' new anymore.
@@cmdrfokker May I recommend this delightful analysis of the entire 2D Mario series? critical-gaming.com/blog/2009/11/19/the-measure-of-mario-pt1.html
The modern DKC games are amazing, but they don't make NSMBU a lesser platformer, only a less visually spectacular one. The gameplay of 2D Mario is as thoughtful and perfectly designed as it was 30+ years ago, and the graphics are designed to provide simple clarity above all else.
Thats because its made in the engine they used for the Wii version haha
@@zerarch77 My guy, the same artstyle is used in all the games, the music is the exact same, the level themes are the same, there is nothing to distinctively separate them. If i showed you a pic of nsmb wii and nsmb u side by side, you wouldnt be able to tell which is which. Graphics and style are not the same. Super Mario Bros 1 2 and 3 all had distinct styles you could easily tell which is which. NSMB 2 and U came out within a year of each other and again, THE MUSIC IS THE FUCKING SAME. The games function as fun titles but holy shit they are nothing more than decent-good and considering they're mainline mario games, Thats a bad thing.

@@jacksonkustell exactly. The only Wii u port I repurchased on Switch was Mario Kart 8, at launch / full price and I within the first few months I put more time into that version than I ever did on the Wii U, simply because MK is great in short burst, ie portable play, and not the kind of have I plan on the TV for hours (unless it's multiplayer). I was willing to pay full price because I knew it held a better value as a portable title. Conversely, I havent bought Tropical Freeze because I don't see myself replaying that any time soon. @Weston Thomas Yea no, Zone of The Enders 2nd runner launched at 30usd for an ancient game with a VR mode on PC and PS4. Onimusha for ps4 launched at 20USD. I have had that happen at least twice on Steam.
Dont bother. I'm not. Got super Mario Wii u so ain't gonna bother with super Mario deluxe. It's the same game with 1 new character, ain't worth the £40 -£50 price tag

Wii U i dont think is "less valuable" because of the ports just because a wii u + 10 games costs about as much as a switch alone.
My issue with ports is when I spend 60 bucks on MK8, then another 10-20 on DLC, then they release it on Switch with more stuff that MK8 was missing and don't give that update to the Wii U (in addition to it including all DLC, they also allowed players to hold 2 items at once, and redid the battle mode which was junk in the Wii U version). For this particular case I felt cheated cause my only option would be spend another 60 dollars on a game I already spent like 80 on just for some content it should've started with in the first place, and if they did the work to fix this, why not just add it as a free update to the Wii U version...?
For the most part releasing games doesn't bother me, but you do make a good point on THIS game because the battle mode in WiiU was pure trash. The least they could have done was add that battle mode into the WiiU version as an update. Every other mario kart game had a decent battle mode, including the VERY FIRST ONE. I felt cheated after just buying the game in general to see how bad that battle mode was. It would have been a minor apology to those that purchased the wiiu version to eventually give them a decent battle mode.
Exactly I wanted this battle mode plus tue characters and karts like Bowser jr and dry bones maybe someday
I ran into the exact same wall with Pokkén Tournament. I bought it on Wii-U roughly a month before they announced DX and now I don't wanna play the Wii-U version anymore because it's the inferior version, but I don't wanna spend all that money again on DX. It killed my interest in the game entirely which is a damn shame because it was the Pokemon game I was looking forward to the most and being between jobs at the time of it's launch, all I could do was bide my time and look at all the new Pokemon rolling in until I could get a new job to afford it.

Maybe it'll be like the DS/3DS lines where they keep improving it long-term.
I think it would’ve been nice if they added a “Wii U owner discount” or something where you get discounts on switch games and maybe some extra roms kinda like what they did by giving extra games to people who bought the 3DS before the price drop. I understand Nintendo had to abandon a sinking ship but they really should’ve given some kind of thank you to those who put their faith in Nintendo, even if it’s something small like a free Nintendo online subscription, anything to say “we’re sorry we know we fucked up”.
Using that logic again, I’m really glad they’re porting the games. Devs put faith in the Wii U to make profits for them and must’ve been disappointed with the sales, porting them to a successful console gives the devs the money they deserved.
Maybe Nintendo could release free VC games on the Wii U for people who registered both consoles' versions of a game on their account. Got Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? Cool, have Super Mario Kart for free as a reward! Paid for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze twice? Here's the original Donkey Kong Country! Et cetera.
I'd have felt satisfied as long as they kept supporting Miiverse and the Warawara Plaza. That way the console would still feel alive even while dead.
Natalia :D yep
I own a wii u and I'm not disappointed that they do ports of wii u games. Maybe I'm disappointed that the wii u had just a few good games. I owned a wii u just because of xenoblade chronicles x and I never played one of the ported games on the wii u. At the moment I'm happy that I own a wii u because I just ordered zelda twilight princess hd and skyward sword (cause zelda botw was my first zelda game and I love it) (excuse my english, I'm from germany)
I know I'm late, but your English is actually pretty good! If you'd excluded the bit at the end, I really wouldn't have known that it wasn't your first language.
Also, props to you for being bilingual! :)
I bought Wii U early. Never regretted it. Still like it. It helps that it doubles as my wii system, but for the main games I was never disappointed.
Idk what people are talking about when they say the Wii U didn't have good games. MK8 and Smash 4 was awesome and the Virtual Console was amazing
Same here! I love the wii U and I was sort of sad to let it go in favor of the switch...
I still want one.
I think I'd buy a WII U just to mod it. I could have all the GameCube games I could ever want, and there are a lot of good WII games I'd still want along with the virtual console. Couple all of that with some good stuff like tropical freeze, smash brothers, and MK8 that would be the best not including that it puts out picture through HDMI.
erikholmysti I bought the Wii U on launch day and ended up only buying about 16 games for it. However they were all high quality games and super enjoyable. Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Smash 4, Mario Maker and Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD were all fun and worth my time and money. And when you talk about video games, isn’t that the only criteria that matters?
I mean... a little. They did the right thing in the bigger picture, but it still stings a little.
Being able to trade my Wii U copies of games for massive discounts towards the Switch ports would help. Grumble mutter.
No dummy
It would probably only work for Wii U eShop purchases. Because if a physical Wii U copy could be exchanged for a massive discount, everyone would just try to purchase used Wii U copies super cheap so they could get the discount. Not to mention, when the port releases the Wii U version loses a lot of value and will be way cheaper on the resell market. So it would either have to be a really minor discount or would have to be only redeemable for Wii U eShop purchases.
A better solution would be offering the Switch Port exclusive content as DLC for the Wii U version. Pokken Tournament should have gotten DLC.
I find it kind of hilarious that:
3D World theme is in Mario Maker 2
Captain Toad (based on a minigame in 3D World) is ported over
NSMBU ("the other Mario game") got a port
But still no 3D World port
Maybe because they created Super Mario Odyssey.
They could adapt some mechanics and features from Odyssey in SMM2, but 3D World is easier to put as a theme there.
Its gonna happen

I got bored of splatoon 2 a few months after having it because it was basically the same as splatoon 1. There’s nothing wrong with ports, but I wish there was Cross Compatibility. I could play wii games on wiiU without having to shell out another 60 bucks for the same game reskined. And I know they’re different structures, but I think it’s totally possible to receive, like, an online switch code just to make up for the game that wasn’t supposed to be obsolete for 4 more years.

Captain Toad should've gotten the Splatoon and Mario Maker treatment; a sequel, not a port. The Wii U games that SHOULD be ported are the underrated ones, like Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Xeno X is going to be super fondly remembered if they don't port it over. If there's any Wii U game people should pick up now, it's this one, because it'll probably be hard to find for the next few years.
Chronicles X was considered to be ported but it would take a hugeee amount of time for a port to remove the Wii U game pad parts. At least that’s what the devs say.

My problem with wiiU ports is they tend to do them instead of new games. New super mario bros u deluxe instead of new super mario bros 3, mario kart 8 deluxe instead of mario kart 9, donkey kong country tropical freeze switch instead of (insert new donkey kong here) I don't mind Wii U ports, they're a good idea as a matter of fact, but... if we get them instead of completely new games, I don't want them.
It’s not a matter of “instead of.” Its in addition to. Porting a game doesn’t require that many resources. Not anywhere near the resources spent on making an entirely new game.
yeah, but still. They give us a port of mario kart 8, and don't give us an actual new mario kart. So yes. it IS instead of. Same with donkey kong, 2D mario, and more!
Gaming With Calvin not really =P. It remains to be seen whether we’ll get another Mario kart this gen. But instead of another 2D Mario, we’re getting Mario maker 2. Like I said, a port is not going to take an entire dev team. And those dev teams are going to be working on something, whether it’s Mario kart 9 or something else. The Mario Kart team made ARMS so they have to be working on something.
Gaming With Calvin there’s nothing saying they WON’T make any of those games, the ports are probably just there to hold us over for now.
I agree, Mario kart 9 doesn't look likely because of Mario kart 8 deluxe... And I am not happy!
Well- I still play my Wii U- only because it still has virtual console which the switch doesn’t have....

People would have bought a Deluxe DLC pack without a second thought. Plenty more could have benefited from simple free updates on games like Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors, and NSMBU. Port the games for the portability, sure, but as was said here, more options be always better.
@DacCube: the reason for not having a Deluxe DLC pack on Mario kart 8 wiiU if they did something like that they would have lost sales on the Nintendo switch because since it would have been available on the WiiU, I'm not going to buy a Nintendo switch for just Super Mario Odessy if they would have done something like that in the pass, this would have made a failing console like the WiiU a late success, and the new console Nintendo switch a fail if they did something like that

Personally, I find myself in the _"Dang, I'd love to play these games on the go and with the added extras, but I'm certainly not going to pay the full price for just that."-camp._
I mean, would it have been so hard for them to give people who already owned the original games a discount? Not that many people Wii Us and I also doubt many of those who did double dipped on the games, so it would've probably not even cost them anything.
They actually already did something like that, where you could upgrade your games on the Wii Virtual Console to the Wii U-VC-Version of that game and I gladly paid some bucks to play Paper Mario with the Gamepad.
You don't know how difficult something like that would actually be to work with.
Stores would probably have to do that themselves; not nintendo. Except for online games, but lets be honest I doubt theyd do that because... well... you played the games. Think about this like refunding a game you beat.
@@mattstat716 you would just need to register the game. It would be a 1x thing. Once registered the game is done. Yea buying it used would be a risk you may not get the discount.
I would say that yes, yes they were. It's not the fact that the Switch is getting ports.... but multiple reasons:
1. Nintendo pretty much instantly killing off the WiiU and even pulling them form shelves before the Switch was even released.
2. It's not the ports alone, but the fact that nearly all of the WiiU's notable exclusives are being ported, and at full price.
But above all:
3. What they did with Breath of the Wild and Pokken. The WiiU version of BOTW was notably handicapped by removing all the GamePad features which it was designed to use from the start for years just a mere few months before the game's release just so the WiiU version would have nothing over the Switch version.... and the clearly planned DLC for Pokken (which was leaked in a WiiU update no less) being intentionally held back so they could put it exclusively in the full-priced Switch port.
It's not just "They are porting some games", but all of the above three that yes, feels like they did abandon WiiU owners. The WiiU owners are the ones who stuck with Nintendo when they were at their worst, and they were instantly tossed under the bus (similarly to how during the Wii era Nintendo tossed all the non-casual gamers under the bus until that stopped being profitable) with Switch owners boasting how this is the first Nintendo system they bought in years.... and then turning around and attacking those who owned a WiiU and every other Nintendo system ever for daring to criticize Nintendo for doing this.
So yes, it's not just because "a few ports", but a lot more than it being a case of "a few ports" that definitely makes me feel like they not only abandoned me, but rubbed salt on the wound as well with what they pulled with BotW and Pokken. It's not that they released the Switch, as you explained they pretty much had to, but it's how they treated WiiU owners after the Switch was announced. I feel you are being far too apologetic towards Nintendo acting as if it broke their heart to do this, if they didn't "take this decision lightly" then they wouldn't have done any of the nonsense I pointed out in my three points. They not only did it with glee, but tried to figure out what would be the best way to make people have to pay again for content they should have gotten on the WiiU.
Also, I would like to point out what while Ports have minimal (I would not say zero) impact on creating other games... they DO still space their releases out more. Nintendo would not want their games to be competing too much with each other's sales, so releasing a port could mean not releasing a new game months later.
Also, I heavily disagree that Nintendo is not of the "Wringing every last penny then plugging their ears to complaints as long as the money is coming in" mentality, that fits Nintendo to a T, everyone knows how much they refuse to listen to complaints and how militant they are about defending their "property" to the point of attacking their own fanbase.
Nintendo did have to make the decision to move on to the Switch... but they didn't even TRY to in any way help or make those WiiU owners feel any less cheated, in fact, with the full-price ports and intentionally held back aspects of BotW and Pokken, they intentionally encouraged it.
Caz's Gaming Clips I disagree with nearly everything u just said
Plus the fact that they shut down Miiverse so quickly as well... I don't think they realized how much that affects games like Splatoon, Super Smash Bros 4, Mario Maker, Mario kart 8, etc... It really takes away the community and immersion out of those games now.
I mean, c'mon, Nintendo put a Nintendo switch shirt in the Wii u version of BOTW and not a Wii u shirt. Way to reward your customers for being loyal through your toughest time 🙄

When the Switch was officially announced I knew I wanted the hardware if they did anything remotely as well as they did on the 3DS, as the Switch answered every problem I had with the 3DS. (Mostly just Video-Out so I can relax using any screen I want instead of hunching over a handheld all day).
When they announced Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was being ported, I basically banked on them porting more Wii-U titles in the future, rendering the Wii-U almost obsolete. By now, that's basically what's happened.
The only thing Switch is missing besides a few more games/ports is a better emulation library.
Stopped following gaming around the end of Wii era and also barley knew Wii U existed. 360 was my latest system until Switch. Nintendo did the right thing. You could argue "more options" is actually a singular phrase in the way it is being used; because you're not speaking of any specific options, but "options" as a singular concept.
Cutter Elf it’s a tricky one. Subtle.
In this sentence the phrase “more options” refers to the singular idea of something having more options. It is a singular idea.
It does not refer to the multiple options as plural things.
The sentence is a shorter version of this...

Which makes it easier to see why to use “is” in this sentence.

Jokes on you guys, Wii U games are cheaper than Switch games
It's really a win-win
(Also I didn't even have that many Wii U games tbh)
True.
During its first two years I had more games on my Switch than I had on my Wii U during its entire life cycle.
The only thing that Wii U is used for is virtual console and Zelda HD for WW and TP.
I want those Zelda's to get ported to the switch, but still Wii U is still a good and official virtual console machine.
UA-cam gave me a Wii U game ad YESTERDAY
blast from the past
...?
So which game is being ported? I seem to have missed the announcement. I even just checked over on Nintendo's channel, and didn't see any videos about it.
None. He meant that part like, insert Wii u port here. Trust me, I googled it too

Yeah I do feel screwed over as Wii U owner, Switch owner and a Nintendo fan.
I don't mind the ports, as like Arlo I think it's good that more people get to play these games. I just don't like how they're full price, and how there's not even a discount for those who bought the games digitally on Wii U. I also find it annoying how Nintendo has updated some of the ports games for Switch, but not the Wii U versions. People bought full games and season passes, and now they have content missing that Switch got. This is what actually bothers me.
I agree with their decision as well, but yeah, it sucks that Nintendo didn't address the WiiU owners in any meaningful way. But I've also learned to think about my purchases before I make them.
People may say the Wii U sucked
However, I disagree!
Okay Colress
