I live near ICF. This man renovated the whole campus to another level. Cleaning ponds, constructing new walkways along the 4 km long ICF campus. Everything was made clean and tidy than ever before.

In developed countries Technocrats like Mr Sudhanshu Mani, the architect behind the Vande Bharat Express are given the due credit for technological breakthroughs rather than Politicians hogging all the limelight. In India it is just the opposite. At a time when the safety of trains is a cause of concern and calls for more investment, the Indian Railways spent a whopping ₹5.61 crore on the inauguration of four Vande Bharat Expresses in the country by our leading Politicians. Why can't we let the Technocrats inaugurate the Train at a pittance of an expense while giving credit where it belongs? Truly interesting episode. Bring in such brilliant technocrats in future and highlight their achievements. Keep up the good work.
As a product owner, I can understand the way he wants to proceed for the trains upgradation process. But supply chain management doesn't work that way. It has to be minimum supply order for which factories can supply units. Furthermore once the target of 75 trains is reached then only sleeper trains should be introduced with a specific target, let's suppose 100. Initial extensive trails of 3-4 trains with 1000 of running kms are fine to understand the problems and do the changes

No offence against Ashwini Vaishnav sir. But Sudanshu sir must be given a rajya sabha seat and must be made as a railway minister. And given independence to work on. Goverment needs to get corporate model of working.
Sitting outside and giving advices and actually implementing it are very different. Few days ago, he was suggesting to stop manufacturing of non AC coaches, but that's impossible for a government to do at least for next 20 years.
Sudhanshu sir is indeed one of the few gems who outshined not because of the system, but despite the system. It's rare to find a person in india, who knows his stuff to the core!!! I wish him a very healthy and fulfilled retired life. May he lives 100 years 🙏✨

Vande Bharat is of no use without upgrading the tracks and signalling system. It's like introducing electric cars without proper charging infrastructure in place. Ex: Vande Bharat train from Secunderabad to Visakhapatnam takes around 8.5hrs, while a Garibrath or Godavari takes around 11.5hrs. So, basically around 30-35% decrease in travel time with fare 50% more than that of 3AC of Godavari. That too, a sitting seat compared to a berth in Godavari 3AC. I don't know how it is justified. If a sleeper (with berth) Vande Bharat is introduced, it'll probably be even more costlier with the same travel time. So, I'll wait for travel time to reduce even more (when it feels worth it)

For improving safety and security of passengers many area need improvement. Provide CCTV on all trains, tracks with high speed camera front, backside and some side of train. CCTV on track where both stations can monitor with other online tracking. Modernisation of signalling and laying more high speed track, remove bends, laying additional track esp konkan route with fresh route and lines 4 lines.

a very small upgrade in vande bharth is adding intrain infotainment system infotainment system and data server will cost around 40 to 50cr per tain or even less will enhance experience for passengers then each train will will cost around 180 to 200cr but beauty of burecracy
people (including the so called educated ones) will break it, scratch it, destroy it. People in India lack civic sense and have no shame in vandalising public property.

Mani sir I wish to know your suggestions on a following idea. We can make a vande bharat like train in which there is air conditioning but the seating is unreserved. No things like newspaper and all those things. There is a coach where they can buy food in the train. It will make VB trains more affordable.

In previous governments, India witnessed minimal efforts towards modernization and development in sectors like railways or perhaps any sector , with filthy corruption everywhere . While the new trains may not be the best in the world in terms of amenities and design, the introduction of modern and well-made trains that are manufactured in India is a commendable achievement. This progress should be encouraged, not discouraged.

I have two specific questions for Sudhanshu Mani ji on Kavach. 1) The last/guard's cabin carriage of freight trains are often removed. Is that taken into accouny in the design of Kavach to install a handy component of the Kavach system on the new rear carriage to avoid rear end collision with the frontal carriage of another train closing in along the same track? 2) Often trains derail in such a fashion that wreckages of carriages without any anti collision devices as anti collision devices are installed on front and rear end carriages only) installed on them get strewn around nearby parallel tracks. Is this occurrence taken into account in the design of Kavach to monior alignment of a train by installing sensors on intermediate carriages and on the tracks so that mangled disoriented carriages strewn around other tracks can be detected in real time to avoid accidents on those parallel tracks? I am asking because headon collision scenario testing of Kavach are reported in the mefia, not these kinds of scenarios.

Really no improvement in Vande bharat? The new sleeper class uses Austentic steel, better propulsion, better couplers and the interiors, doors and toilets are very modern, the trains are already being manufactured at scale, anyway the tracks are not ready for trains to go any faster, so why bring even faster trains. Its a huge task to change all signalling systems, tracks and so on to allow higher speeds, not to mention serious safety risks, cattle and people crossing rails, foreign objects and so on. We may need elevated tracks to avoid high speed risks. Dont know why he is so negative all the time nowadays, are you jealous. So many Vande bharat are launched across India. Such immaculate punctuality in all my travels observed. Vande bharat ride is so super smooth. Medha servo drives, titagarh, BEML are making so many parts and coaches as well. Look at boat and Noise in wearables, man companies start small and grow huge, no need to keep belittling. No one said we have achieved everything, he said its world class and nothing wrong.

This argument about profitability isn't entirely true. Also different ppl have different needs. 2AC is far more comfortable than 3AC for most ppl, and whatever my experience has been, I've never seen empty 2AC coach
Question for sudhansu sir, Why doesn't the Railway Mission Raftaar set a target of upgrading tracks to 200 km/h instead of 160 km/h? After some time, these tracks will need to be upgraded again to 200 km/h. So why not upgrade to 200 km/h in one go, especially when our existing tracks can be upgraded to this speed? I agree we have this colonial hagover. Also the first thing te Govt. need to do is to disband the RDSO. The guys there are corrupt and want to go foreign tour to enjoy rather than bring technology.They encourage foreign suppliers despite items that can be developed in India. Why come out now, when the opposition is also attacking Ashwini Vaishnav. Ask him the difference between the current govt. vs previous govt? It is always easy to criticize but running a govt. with so many interference is difficult - foreigners, paid opposition, stone throwers, enemies within the country who derail the trains. Being an employee vs a Leader is a huge difference. In every company employees will criticize CEOs, but being the CEO has so many repurcussions. You missed asking about electrification? Electrification has been a phenomenal success, everything costs money in a country where 90% people don't pay income tax and will protest for everything. Funding is a problem so is corruption of bureaucrats.

What Mr. Mani is saying is very true. Indians have not lost their slave mentality. I find it hard for Indian workers to behave like leaders when they don’t have a manager or director title. I tell my reports to behave like a leader and make leadership decisions even at the cost of making mistakes. Even then they are reluctant to make executive decisions. I tell them I will protect you and take the blame if you make mistakes. They are afraid of making mistakes. Unless you make mistakes you will never learn from them. If you are a team leader, and don’t delegate decision making to your team members and support them when they make mistakes, you will not get any ideas from them. Your team output will suffer. Indian Government departments are notoriously poor in decision making, and I am not sure Indian private sector is any different. That’s the reason no innovation is happening in India and it has to import all technology. I agree 160 kmph is not world class, it is Third World class. Indians also have a high sense of exaggeration about their achievements, particularly the politicians and bureaucrats.

In developed countries Technocrats like Mr Sudhanshu Mani, the architect behind the Vande Bharat Express are given the due credit for technological breakthroughs rather than Politicians hogging all the limelight. In India it is just the opposite. At a time when the safety of trains is a cause of concern and calls for more investment, the Indian Railways spent a whopping ₹5.61 crore on the inauguration of four Vande Bharat Expresses in the country by our leading Politicians. Why can't we let the Technocrats inaugurate the Train at a pittance of an expense while giving credit where it belongs? Truly interesting episode. Bring in such brilliant technocrats in future and highlight their achievements. Keep up the good work.
As a product owner, I can understand the way he wants to proceed for the trains upgradation process. But supply chain management doesn't work that way. It has to be minimum supply order for which factories can supply units. Furthermore once the target of 75 trains is reached then only sleeper trains should be introduced with a specific target, let's suppose 100. Initial extensive trails of 3-4 trains with 1000 of running kms are fine to understand the problems and do the changes

Vande Bharat is of no use without upgrading the tracks and signalling system. It's like introducing electric cars without proper charging infrastructure in place.
Ex: Vande Bharat train from Secunderabad to Visakhapatnam takes around 8.5hrs, while a Garibrath or Godavari takes around 11.5hrs.
So, basically around 30-35% decrease in travel time with fare 50% more than that of 3AC of Godavari. That too, a sitting seat compared to a berth in Godavari 3AC. I don't know how it is justified.
If a sleeper (with berth) Vande Bharat is introduced, it'll probably be even more costlier with the same travel time.
So, I'll wait for travel time to reduce even more (when it feels worth it)
We need technocrats in ruling positions and ministries.

For improving safety and security of passengers many area need improvement. Provide CCTV on all trains, tracks with high speed camera front, backside and some side of train. CCTV on track where both stations can monitor with other online tracking. Modernisation of signalling and laying more high speed track, remove bends, laying additional track esp konkan route with fresh route and lines 4 lines.

a very small upgrade in vande bharth is adding intrain infotainment system
infotainment system and data server will cost around 40 to 50cr per tain or even less will enhance experience for passengers
then each train will will cost around 180 to 200cr but beauty of burecracy
people (including the so called educated ones) will break it, scratch it, destroy it. People in India lack civic sense and have no shame in vandalising public property.

There was infotainment on Tejas express ig..ppl damaged it and even stole it within 10 days and they had to remove it. So it's not practical in India.

Mani sir I wish to know your suggestions on a following idea. We can make a vande bharat like train in which there is air conditioning but the seating is unreserved. No things like newspaper and all those things. There is a coach where they can buy food in the train. It will make VB trains more affordable.

In previous governments, India witnessed minimal efforts towards modernization and development in sectors like railways or perhaps any sector , with filthy corruption everywhere . While the new trains may not be the best in the world in terms of amenities and design, the introduction of modern and well-made trains that are manufactured in India is a commendable achievement. This progress should be encouraged, not discouraged.

I have two specific questions for Sudhanshu Mani ji on Kavach.
1) The last/guard's cabin carriage of freight trains are often removed. Is that taken into accouny in the design of Kavach to install a handy component of the Kavach system on the new rear carriage to avoid rear end collision with the frontal carriage of another train closing in along the same track?
2) Often trains derail in such a fashion that wreckages of carriages without any anti collision devices as anti collision devices are installed on front and rear end carriages only) installed on them get strewn around nearby parallel tracks. Is this occurrence taken into account in the design of Kavach to monior alignment of a train by installing sensors on intermediate carriages and on the tracks so that mangled disoriented carriages strewn around other tracks can be detected in real time to avoid accidents on those parallel tracks? I am asking because headon collision scenario testing of Kavach are reported in the mefia, not these kinds of scenarios.

Really no improvement in Vande bharat? The new sleeper class uses Austentic steel, better propulsion, better couplers and the interiors, doors and toilets are very modern, the trains are already being manufactured at scale, anyway the tracks are not ready for trains to go any faster, so why bring even faster trains. Its a huge task to change all signalling systems, tracks and so on to allow higher speeds, not to mention serious safety risks, cattle and people crossing rails, foreign objects and so on. We may need elevated tracks to avoid high speed risks. Dont know why he is so negative all the time nowadays, are you jealous. So many Vande bharat are launched across India. Such immaculate punctuality in all my travels observed. Vande bharat ride is so super smooth. Medha servo drives, titagarh, BEML are making so many parts and coaches as well. Look at boat and Noise in wearables, man companies start small and grow huge, no need to keep belittling. No one said we have achieved everything, he said its world class and nothing wrong.
Also, Sudhanshu Ji, Honda was just making piston rings and textiles, Hyundai was into repairing trucks and so on, U cant have world class rail companies in 6 years. Why dont u start a company or become advisor to these upcoming companies. Also, Sir, its not u single handedly built Vande Bharat, was govt initiative, u were appointed to lead it and did well. By constatntly criticising, u are kind of downplaying or showing ur own inadequacies.

Why doesn't the Railway Mission Raftaar set a target of upgrading tracks to 200 km/h instead of 160 km/h? After some time, these tracks will need to be upgraded again to 200 km/h. The guys there are corrupt and want to go foreign tour to enjoy rather than bring technology.They encourage foreign suppliers despite items that can be developed in India. Why come out now, when the opposition is also attacking Ashwini Vaishnav. Ask him the difference between the current govt. vs previous govt? It is always easy to criticize but running a govt. with so many interference is difficult - foreigners, paid opposition, stone throwers, enemies within the country who derail the trains. Being an employee vs a Leader is a huge difference. In every company employees will criticize CEOs, but being the CEO has so many repurcussions.
You missed asking about electrification? Electrification has been a phenomenal success, everything costs money in a country where 90% people don't pay income tax and will protest for everything. Funding is a problem so is corruption of bureaucrats.

Indian Rail is still essentially a social service venture which also makes some money...dont think that can dramatically change anytime ,soon or late...
What Mr. Mani is saying is very true. Indians have not lost their slave mentality. I find it hard for Indian workers to behave like leaders when they don’t have a manager or director title. I tell my reports to behave like a leader and make leadership decisions even at the cost of making mistakes. Even then they are reluctant to make executive decisions. I tell them I will protect you and take the blame if you make mistakes. They are afraid of making mistakes. Unless you make mistakes you will never learn from them. If you are a team leader, and don’t delegate decision making to your team members and support them when they make mistakes, you will not get any ideas from them. Your team output will suffer. Indian Government departments are notoriously poor in decision making, and I am not sure Indian private sector is any different. That’s the reason no innovation is happening in India and it has to import all technology. I agree 160 kmph is not world class, it is Third World class. Indians also have a high sense of exaggeration about their achievements, particularly the politicians and bureaucrats.
