Great review. Made me complete my purchase after sitting in my checkout cart for a while. I think the line between Boox Tab Ultra C Pro and Boox Note Air 3 C have become more blurry, except only keyboard case which is available for only Tab Ultra series and camera. IMHO, Note Air 3 C is a really good deal, especially when paired with another bluetooth keyboard.

Great video. This has moved to the top of my list. When I go back for my masters, I want something for notes and general school writing. This seems to be just what I'm looking for.
I'm trying to decide between Note Air 3 C and the Supernote A5X. Primary use: for reading and annotating PDF's. Any opinion on which would be better? Thanks
For working with pdfs definitely get Note Air3C. Neo Reader is much more powerful in that, especially with the new features of neo reader on NA3C. That also applies to reading whatever you want. Also, it's more versatile. Supernote stays behind hardware wise, but it is a solid choice for writers (doing lots of writing) and heavy note takers. If you're none of that, take NA3C. As much as I love my supernote, I get jealous of NA3C ;)
For 50$ more, I think this is a no brainer. The colour screen alone is worth more, although it's not a good one. But it also got a better b/w resolution, 1GHz more, super refresh, android12, fingerprint sensor, sd-card slot, it's lighter, even a bit smaller with the same screen...lot's of improvements for not that much money. That's like 2 ipad generations in terms of changes^^ It got 5 templates less...40 instead of 45...whyever. The battery is the same though, so you have to recharge it more often with that colour screen. On the other hand the better cpu might help a bit on that. Also consider that's not just the colour screen sucking the power, but also the better b/w screen and stuff like super refresh which is worth a lot. No reason to buy the old one in my eyes. Might be even worth the upgrade if you already got the NA2+ which you can still sell now until people find out that there is a new one^^
Great video. Thanks for sharing. A quick question - is there a pen - not so pricy - with an eraser that you recommend and that would work on this tablet?
First boox device that I can actually consider purchasing! Would love to know more about pdf or svg export options. I would use this for ecology field study and landscape design; so I'd like to sketch in the field on the note, and refine on my pc with illustrator
This Note Air 3 looks REALLY nice. Good responsiveness, 4GB RAM (I feel so annoyed by those terrible 512MB+ devices we see on this space so often. I do not buy any Android phones anymore without at least 8GB RAM though, but the demands for those are somewhat higher. Still we need some RAM to use Android apps), access to Play store so I can read both Amazon and Storytel books and access local libraries also. This is looking like it should be.
I have had the device for two days now and will be sending it back. The device offers many new features, but that is of no use to me as long as the battery life is catastrophically bad. I have to charge my Note Air 2 once every two weeks. The new tablet, on the other hand, is already completely empty after 7 hours. On top of that, the color display is much darker. Working without backlight is thus impossible. I'd rather wait for the new black and white variant.
Hi Brandon, thanks a lot for the full review. I am hesitating between the Note Air3 C and the Tab Ultra C Pro. I’m confused with the difference between e paper and e ink, could you help me with that? Thank you, Adrien
The screen technology is the same between both of these devices. The Note Air3 C has an additional film that gives it that paper like writing feel. The Tab Ultra C is going to be thicker, have a camera and longer run time due to a larger battery.
Any thoughts on the best way to "trade in" for the better model? I love my note air 2 and use it daily but i have always coveted a colored "highlighter" for note taking. Can't fathom spending another $500 without getting a good chunk back for my note air 2.
Voija also gave up on the folio in first impressions ;D. Not a most intuitive feature but useful if you need vertical stand. Good video with Boox's obscure UI trademark.
To me the colours does looks pretty good knowing e-ink limitations. I'd love to read pdf papers. Would you suggest this one or the Scribe? I do not necesarily need colour tho.
Рік тому+2
Onyx devices have a lot of features for reading PDFs, I definitely recommend. I haven't tested Scribe yet, but I've read that, depending on how you transfer a PDF to it, you can't anotate on it with the pen. Maybe Amazon fixed this already, I don't know, but regarding PDFs I think any of the bigger Onyx devices (10.3 ou 13.3 inches) would be the best option compared to the competition.
Even considering you used the note air 3c a bit more, the battery consumption difference just here is huge. Please correct me in case there were significant cuts or you charged the 2 plus somewhere in between... but where I can see (glare makes it difficult to read in right upper corner lol), the first point is 73% for 2 plus and 81% for the 3. Later point I can read it they are at 70 and 73.... so that's 3% for the 2 plus and 8% for the 3 for similar use (actually the 2 plus might be even better as I see Bluetooth on too). I'll stick with the older one for now, curious how the difference is over longer period of time with daily use
The record time for this video was an hour and half and I didn’t charge aside from plugging in momentarily to drop the PDFs onto it. Would have been less than 2 minutes

Hey Brandon, Thank you for a great review, I just purchased the BOOX Note Air3 C, wanted to install an app on it from google play, but for some reason any app I try to install got blocked. Apparently the core reason is "play protect certification device is not certified", My question is how do I register my device's GSF ID? it doesn't appear in the menu as in the rest onyx boox models. Do you know? thank you
What do you think they will improve on the note air 3 C plus? Can we expect better resolution? I’m still so much in love w my 2 plus, I can wait for a colour device upgrade.
Thanks for the review. I’ve got two questions, though. When it comes to taking handwritten notes: 1) Can I write directly on EPUBs and other formats? 2) Can I write on rented EPUBs?
A firmware update is need in Boox note taking app : 1. The ability to create table of contents like in superonte a5x and a6x 2. link star should be like supernote do you could know it is registered.
My remarkable 2 is starting to feel a n c i e n t when I watch vids like this. Has anyone made the switch to Boox from Remarkable? I love the idea of also being able to use this with Kindle for Android and OneNote. So tempted.
Between kindle scribe and the air 3 c which one? Mostly for notes at work (need something that syncs easily between pc and device) and kindle reading. Let me know and thanks.
Thank you for the review! I just received my Note 3C, and there is s gray bar on the left side of the screen. By any chance, are you seeing this also on yours? Thank you.

Hi Brandon. I have the Note air 3 c and installed the app "notable" after seeing a video you made. The app opens fine, but the stylus doesent work. Can you test the app on your 3 C. I have the same problem in "tools for boox" app. The native notes app work fine.
I get the same thing you are. I think Notable may need to update to a newer Boox SDK to be compatible. Olup (the creator) is aware, but mentioning it on GitHub or the Discord might help
Wow Android 12, now we are only 2 Android generations behind 😂 Jokes aside this looks really nice, but how is it different from the Boox Tab Ultra C? Is the Ultra C still the one to get?
@@BrandonKBoswell I primarily read comics/manga, and nearly purchase an Ultra C, but then saw the Air 3 C. I don't think I would do much handwriting with it, nor browsing/productivity. Mostly loads of reading books, and lots of comics. Would you still recommend this over the Ultra C? I know the screens are (nearly?) identical from a tech perspective, but to me it seems like the refreshing of the screen/ghosting seems better on the Air 3 C, which might be a software thing? Thanks for your great overview/review!
@@seanbeesonhi sir, how is the reading experience? I’ve only had paperwhite, and I think this is geared towards note taking more but I don’t see why it won’t be good with reading. But wanted to get your feedback.. I also want to read manga..where do you read from?
Thank you for your comprehensive review. I'm a programmer. Can I use it as a color monitor??!! Have you ever tried to connect it to your laptop? e.g. by HDMI port
I haven’t with this device yet, but my guess is it will be similar to (but better than) this: How is the Boox Tab X as a 13.3" e-Ink Monitor? (Setup & Thoughts) ua-cam.com/video/NkaA1NuHmRU/v-deo.html
And battery life? I heard elsewhere that the newer color device has significantly shorter battery life… Otherwise, looks like a winner, though I can do without color.
Battery life is much shorter than other e-Ink, but not worse than your phone. If you don’t need color and want better battery life I would wait for the B&W version
@@BrandonKBoswell Thanks for confirming, and for your recommendation. Yep; that‘s what I was thinking while watching your video and noting how snappy the C tablet is compared with the old B/W one. If only Boox came out with an equally snappy B/W version, and one with presumably vastly better battery life. For I‘d rather have brightness and clarity (and freedom from power outlets) over color any day.
The writing feel on this is great. The next device will always be better, the question is: Does it so what you need it to do to work well for your use-case? If not, then definitely wait.
I had this same question prior to receiving the device. The good news is you don’t have to worry about that. The screen always renders the black and white component of an image quickly and at high DPI (even if some color is present)
@@BrandonKBoswell Cool, thanks. It's just that there are very few readers on the market right now with a 10+ inch screen and 300 dpi, most have 227 dpi. I just doubt what to buy - this device or Amazon Kindle Scribe Premium Pen. What do you recommend?
Very cool to see the Readwise performance. I've been interested in their app but the 1 month trial is kind of short to get a feeling for their features of reminding you of your highlights.
Hi , very good review. I actually have a Bigme color unit from one year ago. I can use sketchbook for drawing and flipaclip for animation with global handwriting . How good can be this boox at these apps . It could be very interesting and original to test these apps for your next review . I use Bigme like a tablet but it is also lack on resolution and strange washed and blur colours watching video. Is it a big step product ? Waiting your great review and congratulations from Spain .
I love everything except the fact that it is $500 and only comes with 4gb of ram... for $500 I expect at least 8gb, preferably 12gb+... and yes, yes it does make a difference on an e-ink tablet, try adding 20 layers in the drawing app and watch the slide show with 4gb of ram.
Frankly, it's not worth using. I understand that different people have different needs, but I didn't find a single advantage in using it over the Samsung S8 Plus (I own both and a Kindle Scribe). If you want a better writing experience, use the paperfeel with S8. For me, I'm using the Boox stylus with my S8. It's just amazing
What about the battery life if Iam gonna use only for reading and note taking without wifi nor Bluetooth? I mean the question is for how long can I read on it on daily basis? I hope you will give me an answer as this matter is the deal breaker for me.
Voya (My Deep Guide) did some battery tests, I would go check those out. WiFi and Bluetooth off will help, but only slightly, the main factors are backlight level and how often the page is switching.
No big deal not having an eraser on the pen, as you just pick the eraser on the settings where you pick your pens, etc. I like the standard pen and don't need an eraser built it
For me the first ink colour reader !!!! withe android 12, without beta testing! Books withe couler statisics better read, or maps , cartons Thas for me i have wating of years !!!!! And tolino, kindel on one device 🤩🤩🤩
At the end, you mention that the android Store is the important factor when choosing the Boox Note Air 3C over the Kindle. I disagree. The greatest advantage of the Boox is a working internet browser. The Kindle browser is barely usable and often fails entirely. The Scribeis infinitely easier to use and a great reader/writer, but falls short in every other area of productivity/entertainment. All that said, it's tough to get around the fact that for roughly the same money, the consumer can now purchase the Samsung Tab S9 FE, which exceeds the capability of the Boox Note Air 3C in almost every possible category of form and function. I like e-ink devices, but compared to the Samsung Tab series of tablets, Boox e-ink devices are grossly overpriced, underpowered and underwhelming in every area except reading and writing. The Amazon Kindle Scribe is priced at a level that reflects its great reading/writing experience, but also at a cost that reflects the lack of functionality when compared to an OLED tablet.
This looks like a great device, but the note taking app is so much more clunky than my supernote a6x. Started small, not sure if I would embrace it. But I really did. Now I'm thinking of going bigger. But ......
Très déçu par les produits boox 1 mois seulement après l'achat j'ai un batterie drain énorme sur ma tab mini c en une nuit en veille en mode avion je perds 20/30% avant c'était 1/2% :(
Boox should develop their own Linux based OS. Relying on Android makes it subject to early obsolescence and discontinuation. Not to mention it could improve the security issues with Boox devices.
Man. I'm digging this. Thanks for walking is through it.
You are welcome as always!

Supernote stays behind hardware wise, but it is a solid choice for writers (doing lots of writing) and heavy note takers. If you're none of that, take NA3C. As much as I love my supernote, I get jealous of NA3C ;)
Boox also has broader support for lots of different file formats for books/comics etc

@@BrandonKBoswellcomparing specs it looks the same, what is different??
@@seanbeesonhi sir, how is the reading experience? I’ve only had paperwhite, and I think this is geared towards note taking more but I don’t see why it won’t be good with reading. But wanted to get your feedback..
I also want to read manga..where do you read from?
Which is best for an author and artist who likes paper supernote , this air 3 or remarkable
If your primary use case is writing and focus, I personally prefer the reMarkable.
Is it possible to use it "upside down" as a lefty, so that the "handle" with boox logo is on the right side?
Yes, the Boox supports manually setting the orientation in all four directions
Thank you for your comprehensive review. I'm a programmer. Can I use it as a color monitor??!! Have you ever tried to connect it to your laptop? e.g. by HDMI port
I haven’t with this device yet, but my guess is it will be similar to (but better than) this: How is the Boox Tab X as a 13.3" e-Ink Monitor? (Setup & Thoughts)
ua-cam.com/video/NkaA1NuHmRU/v-deo.html
@@BrandonKBoswell 👍🙏🌷
For I‘d rather have brightness and clarity (and freedom from power outlets) over color any day.
does it feel like paper when writing? Is there a worthy work-around for it? Or do you think it is better to wait for future realease?
The writing feel on this is great. The next device will always be better, the question is: Does it so what you need it to do to work well for your use-case? If not, then definitely wait.
@bradon how is the battry life compared to Note Air2 Plus?
Don’t know yet, will put that in the full review.
mine didn't come with a cover standard in the box - was that an add on?
Yes, it is.
I wonder if:1. Google Play can be uninstalled from this device, 2 Does it allow a user to sideload apks from let’s say their Pcs? Thanks Brandon
I’m not sure about uninstalling Google Play, but yes you can sideload apps.
Great video... Congrats! +1 subs!
Thank you. Welcome to the club!
Is it possible to force only black and white mode to be enabled for higher resolution and dpi?
I had this same question prior to receiving the device. The good news is you don’t have to worry about that. The screen always renders the black and white component of an image quickly and at high DPI (even if some color is present)
@@BrandonKBoswell Cool, thanks.
It's just that there are very few readers on the market right now with a 10+ inch screen and 300 dpi, most have 227 dpi.
I just doubt what to buy - this device or Amazon Kindle Scribe Premium Pen.
What do you recommend?
it's great, but the missing camera is a deal breaker for me. i need to be able to scan documents in the field.
Take a look at the Tab Ultra C
@@BrandonKBoswellthat is exactly what i'm looking for.
Very cool to see the Readwise performance. I've been interested in their app but the 1 month trial is kind of short to get a feeling for their features of reminding you of your highlights.
out of curiosity which E-ink device do you use on a regular basis? And would you recommend this over the remarkable 2
I use the reMarkable for note taking and the NA3C for Reading
Hi , very good review. I actually have a Bigme color unit from one year ago. I can use sketchbook for drawing and flipaclip for animation with global handwriting . How good can be this boox at these apps . It could be very interesting and original to test these apps for your next review . I use Bigme like a tablet but it is also lack on resolution and strange washed and blur colours watching video. Is it a big step product ? Waiting your great review and congratulations from Spain .
What is better thie or remarkable?
the light glare on the 3 is killing the video
I’m working on it. It’s tough to get the balance right. I’ll keep tweaking
No infinite scroll on notes like in the remarkable?
It has a setting that lets you make the page twice as tall, but it’s not nearly as well implemented as reMarkable’s Infinite Scroll
@@BrandonKBoswell 2x feels really really limited yes…. Looks like we’ll have to wait for the remarkable color to arrive at perfection
Can you use the eraser of the pen 2 pro with this device? Or another pen with an eraser?
Yes
I might just get this one and buy another pen with an eraser then. This form factor with an SD card is just perfect for me!!!
hi. what are the difference between this and the tab ultra c?
can i download Chrome, kobo, kindle and youtube app on this?
From a functional perspective the biggest difference is thickness and camera. Both run the full Google Play Store
@@BrandonKBoswell thanks
Does it feel like writing on a paper?
I think that depends on how particular you are about writing feel, but in general, yes.
To be fair, there's lots of reasons an update might take longer to install than a fresh install on an app.
@@BrandonKBoswell okay thanks. I'll be waiting for you.
No big deal not having an eraser on the pen, as you just pick the eraser on the settings where you pick your pens, etc. I like the standard pen and don't need an eraser built it
For me the first ink colour reader !!!! withe android 12, without beta testing!
Books withe couler statisics better read, or maps , cartons
Thas for me i have wating of years !!!!!
And tolino, kindel on one device 🤩🤩🤩
Hate to see the price tag
You knew it was coming ;)
Wish they had monochromatic note air 3 without colour but 300 ppi display
I agree there is a gap in the offering these
Agreed. I really wanted a tab ultra with 300 ppi. display.
@@davidr1431 I liked the note series more but 300 ppi is still not available
@@learningcheme That’s right. I,ve ordered a Note Air 3 C as a result. Battery Life isn’t that important to me.
@@davidr1431 Good luck with your new device. Do share your experience!
Glare on 3c looks horrendous!
That’s unfortunately my lighting setup. The glare on these devices isn’t bad in real life
This looks like a great device, but the note taking app is so much more clunky than my supernote a6x.
Started small, not sure if I would embrace it. But I really did. Now I'm thinking of going bigger. But ......
You have me on the edge of seat…
Find it funny that nobody can get how to fold case to get portrait mode 😂
Once you know, you know. At this point, I didn’t know ;)
They'll upgrade the Android version when it makes sense to do so. Assuming the device is still supported.
Très déçu par les produits boox 1 mois seulement après l'achat j'ai un batterie drain énorme sur ma tab mini c en une nuit en veille en mode avion je perds 20/30% avant c'était 1/2% :(
That seems like a lot. Have you reached out to support?
Oui j'attends une réponse 😢
Хто такі дорогі купує ? Жуть!!!
Boox should develop their own Linux based OS. Relying on Android makes it subject to early obsolescence and discontinuation. Not to mention it could improve the security issues with Boox devices.
It's so wrong when left-handed people write
I guess I should stop…:)
