Hello fellow Canadian! Love the username, lol. We loved Istanbul so much (as well as the other parts of Turkey we saw.) Let us know how you like it and if you haven't, please subscribe to see where we went after Turkey!
Hi Miguel, thanks for watching & glad you found it helpful! We've done a cost of living for many of the cities we've stayed in for a month. Let us know if you think there is anything we can add
Omg I'm soooooo glad I found your channel😍😍 I needed this video soooo badly! Could you please make moooore videos on living in Turkey as a digital nomad especially after their currency crushed 🙏🙏🙏 How's life like there right now?
Hi! Thanks for the encouragement & for watching! We're in Spain now and moving on to another country later this week. We left Turkey in December, so it was just before the lira took a turn for the much worse so I can't say what it's like now. We do know it's been so hard on the Turkish people and our hearts are with those amazing people and their beautiful country. We loved Turkey so much and will certainly return again.
A small suggestion, for example, you can do mini tours of your airbnb or hotel rooms. So viewers can have more or less an idea of what it looks like.^^
Hi again Darkangel. Very happy to see you having a look through multiple videos. For the record this was our very first cost of living and we do the Airbnb tours in all of our other cost of living videos. We had just started and we’re still trying to figure out what we were doing. 6 months after releasing our first video we are still trying to figure out what we are doing. Lol
@@PureDetour Of course, I'm sure you'll figure everything out in time. I found one of your videos by chance and wanted to watch the others. This shows that you are on the right track.^^
We will be happy to host you all in the beautiful country of Turkey. yes, we are experiencing some economic difficulties as a country but, money is just a tool. Come to Turkey 🤝🏻
We so loved our time in Turkey, and we tell everyone we meet that Turkey is definitely one of our favourite places we've ever been. We can't wait to go back someday.
Thanks so much, Yaman. It was our first stop on our new adventure and fell in love with the city. It’s a massive city but being extremely affordable was definitely a bonus
I always get free suggestions from elders , because they had lots of life experiences , they know what's good and what's bad ! secure my pocket first !
Thank you for this great video. Accommodation: Please could you share the link for the airbnb you used. How did you chose the area that you stayed in? Is there any area you think should be avoided. Also I would like to find out how did you find the safety. Particularly at night when getting to your airbnb. I read that some apartments in isranbul are on small side streets that can feel a bit deserted at night times. Public Transportation Did you feel safe using the transport at night?
Hi Wishlock! We stayed at this Airbnb in the Kadikoy neighborhood on the Asian side of Istanbul: www.airbnb.ca/rooms/44448828 We had read that Kadikoy was a little less expensive and also had a more local feel and we loved it there. There were never any areas that we felt unsafe in Istanbul. I'm not saying that there aren't unsafe area, we just never saw any. And the public transit was clean and realiable and fast and easy and we never ever felt unsafe. We don't tend to be out very late, we're usually home well before midnight (we're old people 🤣) but we found Istanbul to feel very safe. Let us know if you have any more questions and check our blog for a few articles about Istanbul that you might find interesting (some food and restaurant recommendations and fun and cheap things to do.) www.puredetour.com/travel/categories/turkey Thanks for watching!
Being from Australia those prices are outrageously cheap. Currently spend 600USD weekly for our 4 bed home. We rent now after selling up for huge Euro trip. First stop is Istanbul then down to Bodrum
Hi AJ, thanks for watching. Turkey is an inexpensive country to travel for sure. We felt the same way after compiling our numbers at the end of that first month. Unfortunately, the Turkish economy seems to be in a free fall at the moment and that is leaving the beautiful people of Turkey to suffer. Let us know how Bodrum is as we didn't get to make it there this go around.
@@PureDetour Thanks for the reply. Do you feel the economic state of Turkey could affect safety? I have a young family and have heard amazing things about turkish hospitality but I guess you have to be careful everywhere.
Hi AJ! We never once felt even remotely unsafe in our whole 3 months in Turkey. The people were all kind and hospitable and welcoming. Of course anything could happen and there are bad apples everywhere, of course, and you should always take the usual precautions.
@@PureDetour Thank you, that was my take from afar, I can't wait to get over and take a very long break from authoritarian Australia for a while. I'm enjoying your channel, keep up the quality content!
Thank you for the vids guys, great work... I was actually introduced to your channel by John (yes the same John ;) here in T.O. Love your vids, nicely done. If I may recommend something, I thought it might be easier for your viewers to just round up the numbers and skip over the chick peas. As an example, it's much easier to remember $500 than $498.65 :) I doubt anyone would hold you to these numbers plus the currencies fluctuate and after all, this is just to get a rough idea about the country. Thought I'd share; keep up the good work :)
Hi! Thanks for the comment, so excited to have John's friends watching! We went back and forth over the cents part. We added because we wanted people to think we were being exact and not just ball-parking, but we've decided going forward to just do the dollars, so stay tuned for our first Spain cost of living. Spoiler alert...it's A LOT more expensive than Turkey 😂
@@PureDetour Hello and Happy New Year in advance :) John is a great guy.... I'm glad to see you guys are having fun, now in Spain. I visited Barcelona many moons ago and I think it's a must- see city but I'd imagine pricier. I also visited Istanbul about 16 years ago and can't wait to go back. Thanks for making the vids so informative and at the same time so entertaining. Keep up the good work and enjoy your trips. Cheers..
Hi Dave! Thanks for the tips! We did visit that region and loved it. We didn't get to see Kas or Kalkan but heard a lot of amazing things about them. You're right about the weather, we left in mid November and were swimming in a warm ocean on the day we left. Hi Nad, we are aware of the music to voice issues. We hope to have this corrected over the next few videos. Unfortunately, the next couple are uploaded and scheduled and we are currently on the road with not the best wifi, so we can’t attempt to correct them now. As an aside, you left this comment on our cost of living video which has no music other than a 5 second or so intro. I assume you have watched some of other videos where this is very much an issue? Anyway, thanks for watching and valuable feedback
Thank you for the insight...my wife and I are planning on beginning a similar journey next December...the only other cost we know that we will incur will be health insurance and of course the odd bottle of wine or other adult beverage
Thanks for watching, Rob. Great insight regarding health care. We didn’t include it in ours because we both were able to extend our Provincial health care from Canada for two years while being out of country. Health insurance will become a part of these cost of living reports in the future. And we also covered alcohol in our misc. expenses.
@@PureDetour I believe that in our province of New Brunswick we can get a 12 month absence exemption from the country every 3 years outside of that it is a maximum of 7 months in a Calendar year absence from the province to maintain Medicare coverage...although that does not cover us for travel expenses incurred...I look forward to watching your continuing adventures...be safe Cheers
Hi Rob, we are from Ontario. When we went to service Ontario we had to declare the 364 days after our departure and were told we could extend it for an additional year there after. So if all works out, we should have coverage for the two years. If not, you will see health insurance become a part of these COL videos sooner than we thought 😀
Hey guys ; 1st time watcher. You seem like nice ppl. I hope to watch more of your content. I'm less than 2 minutes into your production. And I believe there will be more number $$$ to keep in mind. Thanx for what you do and what you provide.
Hi Ibrahim, rounding would be easier and Angela wanted to do that, but my stubbornness insisted that we share exactly how much money it cost us. Great comment and I do believe that future COL videos will be rounded as you suggest
Thank you. This is the first video of yours I’ve seen. Your costs - do you give the total amount spent, or do you show half the total to show what the cost was per person? I think you said it was total costs, but I’d like to double check. Thx

depedns on your life style, Turkey could be lower or higher. Aslo the Accomodation could cost way less if you rented a place for longer period of time and negotiated a deal with the place itself directly and not through other companies like Airbnb. Also people are kind they'll always give you a better deal if you negotiated a bit or offered them something in return like filming a video for example as a review for their place.
Hi Amr! Thanks for watching and you're absolutely right, it can be much lower or higher depending on your lifestyle. As we only stayed 1 month, we paid higher through Airbnb than what an apartment might cost if you rented for longer term. We also have found all of the people in Turkey to be very kind 😀
Hi Burak. Thanks for the comment! Yes we know that the exchange rates have been changing really drastically lately. We've also heard that prices in Turkey are rising as well, but not sure how that would offset the exchange rates.
