Very important video. Eating during a social life messes many up.

Such a balancing act that takes time and is so nuanced to figure out.

I appreciate your point of view so much. I do strive for balance and it's nice to know others that I respect do as well. 😊

Thanks! Finding it difficult to date with my diet, everyone wants to eat and drink all the time and I can’t handle alcohol at all 🙈😭

Kurt, its a journey and I'm glad you are posting things like this so people can navigate their lives.
Reason I started keto and now a meat based diet was a NAFL. Soon after having elevated ALT level I had a CAC done. My heart is a perfect 0, but my liver had spots on it. Some were as large as a penny. I maybe had one drink a year. I didn't drink soda and we mostly ate at home, "fairly" healthy American diet before keto. I was 58 at the time. So for me alcohol is not something I even want to consider. I realize frequency is hard at your age and lifestyle. Maybe down the road you can find some nonalcoholic alternatives for those social situations. Your liver will thank you.
Maybe in the short term alcohol will be "OK". But after watching a couple of Dr Lustig's videos on fructose and translating that knowledge to alcohol and the liver....ummmmm nope not going to go there not even for the once a year for me.
Alcoholism runs in my family. I hate how one is not that social if they don't drink.

Thx for sharing. I don't have any alcoholism in my family. I know it's not the best, but I drink for the altered state is puts me in and I enjoy that. It's a trade off, but I think if you stick to the clear liquids and limit the consumption, pick high quality mixers and water up after, you can for the most part fairly well manage it on social occasions 1-2/week, but perhaps later down the road my body will not do so well.

I know you have researched sleep a lot.
    Questions about it:
    1. How much sleep should most adults get? I do realize it varies.
    2. What temperature do you set your bedroom for sleep and then back up for daytime? We live in a similar climate. Tulsa, OK.
    3. Do you tape your mouth shut for better sleep? I have found since I no longer snore since changing what and how often I eat. I wish I had done that years ago. My face shows I was a mouth breather for years.
I am challenged to get rid of my screen (streaming on my kindle) in bed before sleeping.
Side note: Your loft is so cool!

Thx Elaine. Sleep varies by adult, some do well on 6.5-7, I do typically need 8.5-9 to really feel recharged. I'm a back sleeper so that position leads to more snoring. I do much better by taping my mouth regardless of what I'm eating.

I just finished reading "This Naked Mind" and haven't drank in 2 weeks. Now you are making me want to drink 😂. I'm a recovering happy hour drinker 😂. Seriously though I was drinking probably 4 nights a week from 4-6pm. Usually dirty martinis, brute nature Champagne or sake. I always quit drinking as soon as I ate dinner. I have found with the carnivore diet that my normal 4 drinks started giving me a hangover ☹️ and messing with my workouts.

Yeah it's def a balancing act. But life is better w/ booze for me - on occasion. I'm usually a 2-3 nights/ week, Fri/Sat, Sun - those off nights it's usually a cocktail if I'm out or whatever.

I recently started dating someone and I find the hardest thing is not carb splaining and talking about it to much.

Find people in places you'd go that are healthy. Date individuals who share the common interests. There's def attractive prospects in the health space.

What you're talking about is not drinking, 3 to 5 drinks is not drinking. When I go out drinking I'll have 10-15 drinks within a few hours and it can throw off my body's equilibrium for weeks. I am trying to figure out how to balance having those nights with my strict diet and exercise routine, I think it is raising my blood sugar too high and dehydrating me severely so I think I should be able to avoid these problems with vitamins and aftercare and hydration but I am not sure. In the mean time I am just trying to only drink once a month.
Thank you for your help you look great.

Maybe just try sticking to less sugary mixers and hydrating a few glasses of water before snoozing when you're done.

Speaking of alcohol, have you ever struggled with alcohol consumption? If you have, could you talk about tips to overcome it in excess?

Never had an issue over-indulging. I don't drink alone, it's always been a social thing in my experience.

Wine sux. Sorry. Too bad it has such a “romantic” connotation.

Yeah I luv it, but I almost always avoid it now, it just wrecks your body in so many ways. Esp the blood sugar and sleep quality you get.
