This video shows the absolute basics of making your own socks, but you could take it further by using fabric pens to draw a repeating polka-dot, heart-print or fruit-print pattern, or you could add some pom-poms in a contrasting colour!
p.s. make sure that you're using a particularly stretchy t-shirt! Otherwise, you won't be able to get the socks on your feet & if you do manage to, they won't stay up very well.

can i just add a helpful hint for this tutorial? - i made a pair yesterday from thin fleece to keep my feet warm under my boots and i found it much easier and quicker to add a strip of rib jersey to the top of mine instead of the elastic in the casing! just cut a strip of ribbing twice the height you want it sew into a loop fold in half and sew to the top of your socks with right sides together!
I combined this tutorial with the cat socks make thrift buy episode and ended up with high grey cat socks :)

I love this tutorial, but I was wondering if the seam being on the bottom of the sock bothers you at all.
Not at all! I thought that it might, but after I made my first pair I walked around the entire day in them and even ended up sleeping in them - and didn't notice the seam in the slightest. I guess that it might be annoying if you were super sensitive, like someone who has to cut all the tags off their clothes, but otherwise it's fine. Making them out of old t-shirts probably helps, because those super-stretchy types also go all super-soft when they're old.

Woa...... I've always wwanted to make my own socks. Im 14 and where I live you can only get black socks or white. Black is for guys...I know weird right. BUT TNX....I can make long socks now too by using tights as a pattern..

Great! Given the fabric is stretchy and you're using an ordinary sewing machine, which stitch did you use (I'm a beginner, and I know it's tricky with stretchy fabric, no overlocker, have just an ordinary machine) thanks!
Zig zag or stretch stitch work best for stretch fabric!
