You can only put so much responsibility on a child facing off against a clever, weapon-carrying adult. And that responsibility is like 2%.
The worst part is the statistics. I did some calculations and found something scary: You have about a 12% chance of experiencing a school shooting in your lifetime, and about 1.5% per year. This is if you live in God blessed country of the US of A
Many people compare the odds of a shooter to the odds of winning the lottery. This should put it into perspective.
Your odds of going through a school shooting in your life is the same as rolling 8 dice and getting the number 6 on all.

As a teacher what have you done professionally to prepare yourself for this? Have you lobbied for training and arming volunteers at your school? After all these shooters aren't looking for a gunfight they're looking for fame. Have you bothered to take a stop the bleed class? Maybe a class could be put on for faculty and staff at the school after hours. How many tourniquets are at your school? Has anybody practiced with those. I mean it doesn't take an active shooter for a student to have an arterial bleed. 🤷🏼♂️
Several years ago I took an active shooter course in Nashville Tennessee and what I learned was if your response to an active shooter event is to call 911 expect between 20 and 30 casualties. I also learned most people killed in an active shooter event are shot in their hiding place or where they "locked down"
This information comes from a study of the history of active shooter events since 1999
Finally what I learned was that the school lockdowns which are so popular with school districts around the country always work just fine until a shooter actually shows up

1 and 8 million chance of a school shooting you have a higher chance of getting hit by lightning
It’s heartbreaking that kids this young need to be learning how to not die at school, school should be the main safe space but nope, little kids are learning about how them and their friends might die.
They should be a safe place but they’re soft targets which attracts criminals. Criminals are statistically not going to target areas with armed security. Reduce school shootings = implement armed guards and make it known to the public.
What's stupid is that we insist on scaring kids constantly about the least likely thing that is ever going to happen. It's just part of keeping everyone on edge so they are easier to "lead." Now that they don't have them jump jndernthekr desks for the nuclear bomb we scare them with school shooters.
@@cynfulpsyko420 What's ridiculous is the need to terrify kids all the time. It's a way to keep them and you on edge so they can control you, exactly as HL Mencken said.
Its no different than the nuclear bomb drills we did as children. It prepares children to think ahead, and make assertive decisions that may preserve their lives. Its no different than teaching children what to do if a stranger approaches them, if a stranger is at the door, or on the phone. It is YOUR JOB as a parent, to teach children that the world isn't roses and unicorns. Although, even at a young age, I knew that hiding under a desk provided absolutely no protection against a nuclear attack.
@@friendlyfire7861 When you're prepared, you aren't scared. You have clarity of mind, and a process to follow which allows the mind to make assertive decisions, rather than panicking. It is TRAINING. Without training...the mind has nothing to tether, and only reactive instincts remain. Some freeze, some panic and run about with no guidance for what to do next, and subsequently die.

why do people even try to roleplay in these comment sections 💀
I was in a lockdown at school a decade ago: so I was in elementary school and I was in class chatting with my friends Thomas and Raymond both of whom were in my class (despite me being smart) and I remember doing my class work and I just wrote something down when this announcement came on the loudspeaker telling us that we were officially on lockdown so the teacher told us to hide under our desk so we did and while we were hiding we were making plans and I came up with the idea to throw a desk if anyone came in our classroom so we waited for about 45- an hour until this other announcement came on the loudspeaker telling us that lockdown was over and to return to our normal and my dad (who was outside the door the entire time) came to pick me up
The kid looks so innocent he doesn’t understand whats going on ❤😣

It really shouldn't be funny but it is 😭
Omg I’m shaking in tears….. But I’m also so proud of this mom for going through all of these steps with her child.
Ngl, recently since school has started again, I've been keeping my eyes out for ANY good hiding spot in case of a shooting. I've been outside of my class when we had a lockdown for something that was happening outside of the school, and I actually thought it was something INSIDE the school. Luckily, I was going to the nurse for a low blood sugar and they told me what was happening. Here's some good hiding spots if you're in school and there's a lockdown for a shooter but you can't get in a class : behind the counter in the lunch line (if you can get in), behind a curtain of the stage (if you have one), janitors closet, under the bleachers, inside/ in between gym supplies (mats, piles of hula hoops, washing machines, etc), lockers, cabinets, any small space. DON'T HIDE IN THE BATHROOM UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE!
Omg im from Australia and this made me cry knowing you guys are teaching your kids this and carrying bullet proof school bags whats this world coming too😢😢😢
Now u see why 😢😢😢
As an american, I knew we had bulletproof backpacks but they are very expensive 😢
its sad how American kid are used to this happening in schools. (im American and im USED to lockdowns)
I'm sitting here as a grown man admitting this video made me straight up cry. What happened to my friggin country...
Why does america make guns legal, thats just stupid simply
@@elliethejellie ikrrr there should be some licence for it
@B-nditfrom a distance it looks like you’re quite far past the “reasoning in good faith” stage now whether it’s about guns or anything else. Overtaken by a fear that any concession or even an attempt to discuss things properly will result in cynical actors on the other side taking advantage. Which is probably accurate. There must be a way to move beyond it but I’m not sure what it is. Maybe requiring real names on all social media would help
@@elliethejellie In every small rural community, there are more guns than people.
In most small rural communities, there is far less crime..... far less crime. My parents owned over 50 guns while i was growing up. I shot the 12 gauge when i was 8. The trigger pinched my finger or something it made me bleed. it earned my respect.
It's because we took the crazies out of mental hospitals that's my opinion
This is heartbreaking 😢
Heart breaking . I had a very visceral reaction to this. On one hand good to be safe. On the other terrible this is a thing.
It’s sad to know that this is reality and parents have to send their children with a lot of protection worrying and hoping they will be okay. No one should have to worry about if their child is in danger at the place where they are supposed to be safe and learn.
It’s sad to see but much needed today’s society. Great job mom.
It’s crazy how this is a real issue the US deals with. Either way a parents gotta do what a parents gotta do💯 much respect
It took me a second, but I now realize that the reason she told him to stay quiet if they ask “is anyone in there” was because of the Robb Elementary shooting (Uvalde) in which the idiot officers called that out and kids said “we’re here” and immediately got shot. It’s heartbreaking.
As an american living roughly 7 hours from Uvalde TX i can say that this is something that CHILDREN should NEVER EVER have to worry about. I applaud the parents that have had to make the difficult decision to teach their children things like this, and the teachers and administrators of districts everywhere that have made changes to buildings and staff training. I will always believe that there is NO WAY THIS SHOULD EVER HAPPEN IN SCHOOLS EVER!
Agreed! 5 hrs from Uvalde (south texas)

You are such a
Good parent and thank you for teaching your kid that❤❤❤❤It is so heartbreaking that we have to learn how to do this and that we have to even think about it but thank you for keeping your kid safe❤❤❤❤
But we don’t
Its sad that moms have to teach their kids this cuz of everything that’s happening in the world and how cruel ppl can be 😢😢
"You don't need your backpack"
"No I ne-"
"How dare you talk back to your teacher, go sit in the corner"
😂
I’d just bite the teacher
Absolutely heartbreaking
Heartbreaking. I've never been more grateful to live in Australia. I just can't fathom sending my child to school and not knowing if I would ever see them alive again. My heart goes out to the mothers, fathers, etc in the U.S
I've read the crime stats there. Your kids aren't safe anywhere. These shootings only happen in gun free zones anyway. Everyone is presumed armed in my community. As a woman I can and have walked safely to the store in the dark. We have armed police in the schools and reinforced doors to protect our kids. It's called being responsible for own safety instead of depending on the government.
My Aussie school has x ray detectors, not even in America and we are being careful
@MasterQ18 here in the States, we have had metal detectors in schools since the 90s. We also have armed guards and police officers in many of our schools. These shootings happen in areas where the communities care more about politics than children.
The way I feel about this is that I'm really glad you're teaching him these things, but I burst into tears at the end. I just can't believe that kids NEED to learn these things! All I can say is we live in an effed up world now!
“I say I’m here” got me dying 😂 but good way to teach your kids :EDIT thanks so much for 150 likes:
That is just not okay. Like dude she teaching her child to stay alive IN A SCHOOL SHOOTING. Like TF
@@Redstorys20 what are you mad for? Imagine being a toddler with no knowlage of survival and your school is getting shot up
Do you expect instructions or not?
@@Redstorys20bro they are trying to lighten the mood in a sad situation like chill out
@@Redstorys20 Look up Khloie Torres, her father educated her on this stuff and it saved her life during the Uvalde shooting while her classmates were murdered. Also look up the Uvalde crime scene photos if you want to see how horrific gun violence is in this country, be warned they are extremely graphic.
@@Redstorys20 teaching the child something that he will never have to face because school shootings are not as common as the media would like you to think. You should stop listening to the media because they’re making you all paranoid. They should be doing activities with their son or let him run around outside instead of making him seem like he’s a victim, or going to be one. They also do fire drills and tornado drills but guess what? They don’t happen frequently and those can be considered man made or natural!
He's so small... He's so young and small and sweet and innocent and he doesn't deserve to have a school life where being taught to survive an attack is a must. His mum's voice was heartbreaking
@jm6456 I'm not accounting for death,it's a guess of how likely to end up in a similar situation. Whether that be a simple break in,or a legitimate threat. Though that was mostly a guesstimate,it's still far to high of a chance for children ending up in a dangerous situation, while in the "safety" of school grounds. My point is,it's possible. It's not die in a car crash odds, but it isn't a 1 in a million shot etheir.
We should be teaching kids how to ride bikes not how to survive a school shooting this is America.
no but thats sad that parents actually HAVE to teach their kid that, this world is so cruel
