I 've had mine for 6 months and I haven't had any of these issues. Starts immediately when 0 degrees and I've never plugged it in. no rough idle. I always run fuel cleaner in the fuel and an oil additive in the motor. Best truck I've owned. I bought it for the fuel economy.
I can honestly agree. I've had mine now over a year and 4 months. The fuel mileage is just awesome so far. I've put 30k on it drivin it to 2 states. Tow a 7,000 lbs camper at least once a month during the summer. And yes fuel and oil stabilisers. All maintenance is done every 7,500 miles. So 4 oil changes and 2 fuel filters and air filters. And one treatment of stcktion modifier. Also cleaned EGR defuser. So in that time it has just been maintenance and drive.
A good tip for Eco diesel owners is to keep your map sensor and your mass airflow sensor clean, have a clean air filter and clean the diffuser tube and at every oil change.

-20/-25 celsius here today truck started fine and its not plugged in. i did put my front cover on though it takes a while to warm up the cab. 2015 ecodiesel
Well it was 9°F and truck was plugged in. When it starts it's coolent is around 88°F and didn't sound like a bag of hammers being thrown down a flight of stairs. Also won't immediately high idle.
But in the afternoon it was 27°F and not plugged in. It fired up just fine but raced to 1500 rpm immediately and sounds very uncomfortable. At least for me. Completely normal for cold diesel engines but not a sound I enjoy.
Don’t!!!! I bought one last year- and I really miss the Hemi ram I traded in. I’m having trouble with mine overheating. It has only de-fueled on me once, so far, but that was with an empty 2,000 pound trailer. Since I’ve had it, the dealer has put a water pump on it. Thankfully it was under warranty, because the water pump was $850 alone. I drive approx 120 miles round trip to work and back, and I’m still having overheating issues. My water temps are running high 230’s, and oil temps are running 240-250, with an EMPTY truck. EGT’s are 800-1100 for most of the trip. As soon as I get off the freeway, and EGT’s drop, my water and oil will cool down within 1 1/2 miles. I’m going to try to get it into the dealer this week to let them take a look. Most people seeing temps like this are towing well over 4-5k pounds. Right now, mine won’t pull the hat off your head.
I know you wrote this like two years ago and I’m hoping you really didn’t buy the truck because I had mine for six months and broke the motor and I was just driving normal do not buy the truck
So I was splaying with my ecodiesel in the cold weather and did some research.. when below a certain temp. And heat off it will idle at its usual cold idle but if you set it to full heat and turn the blower on it turns on the electric ptc heaters in the ducts and the engine ramps up due to the large electrical load. It is pretty much instant small amount of heat. They are undersized for the truck but helps a lot with faster defrost. Also, an outlet timer set for 2-3 hours before you usually leave let’s the block heater so it’s job without paying for the electrical waste of heating all night
I so far have almost 22k on it pull a camper. And just drive it. Now I got one that had full record of maintenance from new. That was a good determining factor.
Have had problems with a lighted plugs on cords. They also generate heat, melt ice and snow that refreezes and/or corrodes the connectors. My solution now is to either listen for the heater or escape to the desert southwest for the winter.
My 2016 has 78000 km, no issues, these trucks like long highway drives. If people drive them only in town emission systems can be trouble. I have not had one CEL. There is a guy on the forum that has 370k miles on one that was GDE tuned, which effectively disables EGR valve. Original injectors on that one I believe. This engine is fine, some are trouble with people not understanding the design, or possible manufacturing issues. Anyways with your warm up and plug in why aren't you running the winter front? My truck came with one and FCA Canada had a TSB that made it required. Run the ram one with the 4 flaps.
Weird that your TPMS doesn't alert you for having 32/33 psi? I have a '14 Laramie ED and it wants 39PSI in each tire or it'll alert me of low tire pressure... I see yours is 4x4 as well, I wonder why that's different?
if you pump those rear tires up to 39 psi the tire will show signs of over inflation by quickly eating the center of the tread. They should have said 34 to 35 on the rears unless you have a lot of weight in back. 39 does fine in front but even there, 36 gives a much smoother ride.
Turned mine to park....or what I thought was park. Got out of the truck and left the door open so I could close the garage door. That's how I lost my truck door....
Good deal👍 My wife bought a 2020 in January and I just got one in July and so far so good. Excellent powertrain. Smooooth and linear, the mileage aint too shabby neither..
All of them do. But they may not have the cord. But to know look through the passage side wheel well liner. Its in the middle of the block. If the cord isn't there you will see an orange cover over the prongs. And if it has the cord look on core support behind the headlight. Or if it's been replaced like I had to do to mine look around the bumper. My new cord comes out next to my tow hook instead of by the headlight.
Well I think I know the guy who you refer verndiesel. I think. But I bought mine used with 74,000 miles so mine didn't come with the cold weather cover. And I also agree with the drive. I drive about 400 miles a week with mine. That's why I went with the ecodiesel. And have also been driving a International 4300 with a 6.7 Cummings and the green diesel emissions. So I know how important it is to limit short trips. And to try to run them enough to keep up EGT and keep DPF clean
I hope you have good luck with your 2017 Laramie. Mine is currently sitting on the dealership's parking lot waiting on a new engine. My engine blew with only 83K on the engine. I used to know a Juan Luna in the Air Force. He was a good man.

The eco diesel needs some more R&D! The cam sprocket isn’t splined and when it slips there goes your engine. Turbo is way too small creating back pressure and shells the turbo and in turn wipes out a 20k engine. Parts are way too expensive for the engine and are sometimes hard to get and good luck getting a technician that is familiar with this newer platform! Other then those complaints it seems to run well but mine rattled when it’s cold as well!
Every 2014-2016 Ecodiesel owner who did the software update are experiencing an Anti freeze smell . This is the latest recall now on these trucks because of engine fires. The class action lawsuit has one for up to $3,075 USD and an extended warranty. The second part is a buy back. As of now, FCA has no parts available to repair the EGR cooler. A few people who had the software update did have an engine fire. The software update caused higher operating temperatures, turbo lag and less miles per gallon to comply with the EPA lawsuit.
Are we certain of the buyback option? I did not see that in the settlement. I did receive the EGR recall. Do you know if Ram is cleaning out or replacing the EGR coolers with the recall
thethirdsealpatriot The Buyback applies to all Ecodiesel owners who did the AEM software update. The vehicle must be at the dealer more than 30 days if it’s part of the AEM and Extended Warranty. My truck is getting another EGR cooler, the part is coming this week. I hear their may be another replacement for the EGR. A few reports of the EGR being replaced before the recall and just after the AEM still experience the coolant smell problem. The dealers are now starting to report these issues to FCA. The Class Action Lawsuit has definitely helped give a better understanding with the thousands of owners sharing the problems with the Ecodiesel.
Well I hate to hear that. And I have nothing against the IDEA of a extended warranty at all. But like I explained in another video. Do the homework. I got talked into one. And the car has been great. But the night mirror I have to go through with it sucks. Everything has to be done at the dealership and they don't have a tech qualified for my make of car so if anything happens I have to take it to the manufacturer after taking it to them to tell me they cannot work on it. So as a cautionary tail of do homework.
The payload of the Ram 1500 is like a car with a very large trunk. My wife's Ram 2500 Crewcab 4wd Cummins powered truck has slightly less than a 2500lb payload and a 10k GVW. My friends Ram 3500 Crewcab Cummins powered truck has a 4500lb payload and a 14k GVW. By D.O.T. standards, a truck has a GVW of OVER 10,001lbs. So by D.O.T. standards, the term car or motorcar would be correct.
BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!! Saved my ass when 8 months in to owning a used 2014 with 100,000 miles, the motor spun a rod bearing and shredded it to pieces. It cost Chrysler $13,000 to replace the long block and some other parts, but thanks to my warranty my deductible was only $200.But.... after getting my truck back, within 500 miles it did the same exact thing and has been back in the shop for over 4 weeks waiting for a entirely new motor that is backordered. Ill make sure the warranty covers this one because 2 days prior, I noticed a very faint knock when it idled. So i took it back to the dealer to see if they'd take a look at it again, but was blown off and told to come back if it got worse. Well it did. and now I'm stuck driving a loaner with a Hemi getting crap gas mileage. Cannot wait to get my truck back!
Mark Oliver I probably will. I have been looking at the cost and so far I still have 20,000 left on the factory warranty. I'm wanting the warranty to cover emissions as well. Can or be able to delete it.
Bryce Stewart I've come to one conclusion with the Eco. All year trucks have been having issues. And it's been rough for all. And it's luck of the draw, if you can get all records for it and see what's been done. I have the Mopar app and register it after your first dealers service the records should come up. I found all my records came up after my last oil change. I have every service from the first from the original owner. All of the recall imformation and when it was done. And ALL of this truks service was done at dealership, and only 3 times in for unrelated issues other than oil and filter change. So there is another tool
Ecodiesel does need more TLC - I have 3 diesel cars a 2018 outdoorsman similar to yours with proper 4x4, a 2018 diesel sport black edition that looks nice but aint really 4x4, and and an irrelevant 2017 Bmx x5 diesel - all of these need care, all need DEF (albeit german diesel needs less top offs), all need to be warmed up, all need long highway drives to burn the carbon that collects on filter that only self-cleanses with high temp -- the other thing they all have in common is great mileage for long drives and lots of power to tow things, so much so that the rest of the so called negatives sort of don't matter! The point is, buy diesel if you have the use for it, else don't bother!
You can also delete the horn blowing mode on the key fob. Your neighbors and ( whole neighborhood ) will stop thinking of you as an a$$hole. Like the cat.
Frank Baker you are correct I can go into the computer and disable the function. But it's nice for me to know the truck actually started. That's why it's there.
Not true, used only 2 Kw of electricity for 7 days when it's 50F outside ($0.30) Coolant is 112F, Trans is 80's / Oil is 100F. Compared to the fuel used to heat engine from 50-110F (About $3.00). And this is daily! Knock it, or try it. Your vehicle performs best when hot (duh) Kw are must cheaper than fuel (heater core only works for 2 hours max, after this it's a waste).
I got a good ecodiesel tip. Don't buy one. I have a 2020 with the gen3 engine and it's garbage. Left head gasket leaked oil with less than 8,000 miles. Of course the shit head engineers at ram designed it so you had to take the turbo off to remove the left head. Since that wasn't the dumbest thing they could do, they have the engine set so far back in the engine bay, to remove the turbo, the whole cab and front clip had to be removed. Trust me, you cannot make this kind of stupidity up. Of course, after 3 months in the shop, now I'm having other problems related to the cab removal and incompetent shop. Still don't understand why ram didn't stay with the cummins brand a put a v6 cummins in the 1500???
I've got a 2017 Ram Eco Diesel sitting on the dealership's parking lot waiting for a new engine. It only had 83K miles on it when it blew. I agree with you. Ram should have had Cummins make the engine, not Fiat! I'm really disappointed with Ram for allowing this to happen.

By D.O.T. standards, a truck has a GVW of OVER 10,001lbs.
Sorry bout your luck... that’s just a 2014 thing. Look up on internet, should never buy a 2014 eco diesel they had problems
This one gets plenty of use. TLC definitely, now dose trailer towing duty. It now has 101,390 miles on it and runs like a top.
45d angle! Ha.
And also if there is a cat sleeping in the engine compartment it should scare it out before it starts.
I love it I smoke the same cigars
Yep. I just don't do it while I'm driving. Like the still new truck smell.
Dude, you do as you like, but you're wasting a bunch of electricity by plugging in at 30 above. Completely unneccessary. Nice pickup, tho
...and I say this after 25 yr driving truck/living in MN n ND.
Im in manitoba and i dont plug my eco in unless its -15 C or colder. Starts like a champ. No problems with the truck yet in 60k miles
-35 here in northern ontario, starts no problem when i forget to plug it in.
Don't buy one. Crank bearing out at 36k. Traded for a Chevy no issues. Still sitting behind the dealership. 9 months
Rip the egr cooler out. Sofa king tune stage 1 deletes it, all other emissions in take
Thats eventually the goal. But I have other things going on.
Tip #1 do not buy an Eco Diesel!
Your welcome!!!😎
Delete it no emmisions equals more power and better mpg
I had sensors changed three times before 125000kms
Mine was changed after AEM tune. Other then that it's been pretty good. Not that a tune wouldn't help. But I drive the truck like an over the road tractor so it really hasn't given much trouble.
Whats up with the "cute" shit?
Ecodiesel tip get rid of it
Nope. What about the people that have stuck out the 6.0 power strokes. Same thing, struggle a bit but in the end it can be a wonderful thing.
14 degrees? What in THE hell does that mean??? 14 Fahrenheit??? 14 Celcius??? 14 Kelvin???
If I said the distance is 14 lengths, that wouldn't make any sense. We say 14 feet, 14 meters, 14 inches, etc.
Only an idiot would say 14 lengths. And only an idiot says 14 degrees unless they're talking about an angular measurement.
14°F. And the truck is a 2014. I know a ton of 14s in the video. Welcome to recorded on the phone off the cuff.
