      Why you gotta call out a type of music like that? Its good that no music is included, regardless of what genre.

    My dad was training on the WLA/XA during WWII in the desert out west. He said that the opposed cylinders would burn the guys legs while riding so they would stick em in the sand and turn up throttle till they burnt out. They hated them. Over in Europe he hit a mine and blew up but lucked out, the frame and seat saved him. Another thing was he had saddle bags on it and one side had frags the other phosphorus. Neither side blew.

    For something like desert warfare the drive-shaft instead of a chain made perfect sense on that Indian 841.

    • @johnklumpp7901
      @johnklumpp7901 5 років тому

      What "killed" the possibility of using the Indian 841 in US military service was (1) the crappy gearbox, & (2) the issue that 4-seater Jeeps were less expensive to manufacture. So you get a 4X4 instead of a 2X3 (with gearbox problems) and a greater payload!

      @Nefer Hor nope dude Zundapp clearly won army selections over r75. The only reason why r75 was produced - were that Zundapp is small factory and wasnt able to produce enough bikes for army. Just read history of both bikes. Army decides to buy r75 too but - with more zundapp elements.
      Zundapp was clearly best of his era. Also Just watch beaty named ks 800 - only genious can make that 4 cylinder piece of art at pre 1940

    • @zenly_csgo
      @zenly_csgo 3 роки тому +1

      @Nefer Hor The BMW R75 and its rival the Zündapp KS 750 were both widely used by the Wehrmacht in Russia and North Africa, though after a period of evaluation it became clear that the Zündapp was the superior machine. In August 1942 Zündapp and BMW, on the urging of the Army, agreed upon standardization of parts for both machines, with a view of eventually creating a Zündapp-BMW hybrid (designated the BW 43), in which a BMW 286/1 side-car would be grafted onto a Zündapp KS 750 motorcycle. They also agreed that the manufacture of the R75 would cease once production reached 20,200 units, and after that point BMW and Zündapp would only produce the Zündapp-BMW machine, manufacturing 20,000 each year.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_R75

    • @vincentsauer99
      @vincentsauer99 3 роки тому +1

      @Nefer Hor Its actually reverse. R75 always has problems with gearings and overheating.
      I own a KS750 and my grandpa had plenty of both R75 and KS750. The only big Advantage of the R75 is that u can Tune it easily from 24 hp to 35 hp. Cant do that with the Zündapp.

    Yes, the Norton 16H was churned out in tens of thousands but it was not the UK's "staple military bike" of WW2. That accolade goes to the BSA WM20 which gets a tiny mention but was in fact the main military machine. BSA made more than 125,000 of them for the Army, RAF and RN. .

    I'm the proud owner of one of the five DKW NZ-350/1 German WWII motorcycles existing currently in the USA. It is the German military version of the NZ-350, although thousands of NZ-350's also saw service in the Wehrmacht. It has proven reliable, although the 6 volt electrical system requires that you not let the motor idle for 10 minutes or the battery will be drained, and you'll have to push start the bike and recharge it on a ride. Vintage war motorcycles are hard to come by and usually require a long search for parts if you have to restore one, but they are worth it. They are heavy, slow, and low in horsepower, but reliable if you know how to start and maintain them.

      I have three NZ350's in England. It's not a good idea to let an air cooled idle for 10 minutes anyway, so it's probably just as well it cuts itself out. One thing you'd be surprised at is how different they are to ride. The 1939/40 is much nippier and slicker gear changes than the 1943-1945 ones. Mine have all been rebuilt so I know they are stock. I also have BMW's and Zundapps; the Zundapp KS600 is in a class of it's own as a solo; the thing is mad with 28-34hp depending on setup; that said I like my NZ's.

      About 300 of 'em left from 1,000 produced. 750 cc's, hand clutch, foot shift, auto advance and a drive shaft.
      I rode one way back. Not too frisky by today's standards, but definitely different.

    The Cushman was somewhat of a joke, underpowered, ridiculously small wheels and far too low to the ground. It is impossible to imagine a more disastrous design for off-road usage. The same can be said about the Harley-Davidson which was abandoned by the thousands in France as soon as a GI was able to latch onto a german bike.

    From 1938 to end of war the Germans used BMW R12 and Zundapp KS600 both of which deserve credit for being workhorses thoughout the entire war, not just half way through. Also NSU and little DKW RT, which was made for decades after as MZ , BSA Bantam, Harley etc.

    Zundap KS 750 is BY FAR the most beautifull,beautifull sounding,and MASCULINE looking :D .
    Only problem is you have to make another end tot the drive shaft (so it doesn't have that exit towards the sidecar) and that is has a manual gear shift.

    Thie motorcycle presented as Ural M72 is actually a K750. Not much of a difference. Frame (together with rear suspension), cylinder heads, front suspension, fenders, wheels. M72 looks more similar to the 'original', which is BMW R71. Ural, on the other hand, is yet another thing. The most important factor is a 650cc OHV engine.

    my uncle's got that thumbnail bike in his garage. its a 1941 indian, olive drab, with a white star on it. completely all original, except maybe for the copper oil lines, but even that looks original. he took it up and down pikes peak, on the way down he had no brakes. his riding buddies are amazed at how insane he can be when riding. wanted to know if I wanted to ride it, but, there's no f***ing way, man. the throttle is on left side, ignition timing on right, suicide shifter 3 speed, and the clutch is on the left foot with heel and toe control like modern harley riders like to have for shifting. I told him, "man, you must want me to wreck the crap out of it"
    got offered $28,000 for it at daytona 2012 bikeweek but turned it down, it wasn't enough.
    also has a 1939 red indian scout.
