    “OMG her reins”, “her heels”, “I was trotting the first time I rode a horse” ... these comments are highly annoying and insensitive!
    She’s a total beginner, who appears to be nervous, on a rather large horse. Most of these “first lesson trotters” probably started riding quite young (with an interest in horses), when the fear of falling off and getting hurt wasn’t an issue. Let’s just appreciate the fact she gave it a really good attempt!

      I kinda want to agree with you, but on the other hand... I was twenty-two when our trainer on second lesson (the first one took too long on horse care basics to do something more than 5 minute walk on lunge for everyone) said: "let's trot" (and I was scared as f*ck)

    • @darkloverose132

      It varies based on person. I’ve seen trainers do a few trot strides on the first lesson in hand. I’ve also seen people wait a few weeks before it. Usually the people trotting are little kids being led. They’re excited and not as nervous as someone who’s old enough to know “ hey this could get me hurt)”. Plus it’s easier to support a -60 pound kid than an 120+ adult while on ground. I’ve seen adults who are put on baby sitters trot pretty early as well, the jobs a lot easier when the horse knows to catch you.
      I’m more disappointed in him as a trainer for not correcting things like her hands and explaining why and what she needs to do. Of course he is probably more use to training people with more background in riding so it’s easy to forget beginners know nothing.

      i think most people complaining are not particularily complaining about her, but more about him. he could at least told her how to hold the reins. it would have made it easier for her. she had no idea what to do. he barely explained anything to her that would have actually been helpful for her.

    To every salty equestrian who didn’t like how she was riding remember how long it took you to learn how to ride on a basic lesson horse, let alone an Olympic level jumper. It’s like beginners don’t exist at all to you people and everyone who gets on is expected to understand years of training at once jeez!

      I am an equestrian myself and totally agree with your comment! It took me years to learn how to balance and do basic things; 6 years after starting, I learnt new things on a CSO horse and it took me quite some time to adjust (let alone learn more advanced things) as he was used to be ridden a certain way so I had to change. I think as long as people do their best, listen to what the teacher/owner/... says and don't hurt the horse (riding a horse too small for them, ...), I want to say congrats on trying! It's not easy to decide to sit 5-6 feet high, on an animal you don't have full control of and just try your best! Honestly, put me on a softball team and I'll probably end up hurting 5 people in the span of an hour, because I've never done that before. Anyway, people should always remember - it doesn't matter what they are good at - that they started by having to learn everything. Glad someone else remembers being a beginner and being "bad" compared to how good they are now

    • @shelleevans9210
      @shelleevans9210 4 роки тому +6

      EXACTLY - you can tell how nervous she was. Most people are learning to ride because they really WANT to do so, yeah they might be scared too but there's a different motivation. Admit I'm a little stumped over why the reins were so bad but maybe she tried it the right way and for some reason in the short amount of time it wasn't working. A pretty small human on a very big horse (who BTW was such a sweetheart) I think they both did really well and had a great time

  • @jordangonyer3630

    People who are commenting mean things about her and other people ruin this sport. They give the sport and industry a bad reputation, clearly this was her first time on a horse she isn't going to be perfect, and he isn't going to stress over small things when its only for fun clearly she isn't going to be a show jumper, let alone get on a horse again. More people would ride and enjoy the sport more if it weren't for pretentious people who feel the need to be so judgmental on someone who just got on a horse and is scared.

      I rode a few times as I was doing a horse riding course stared as a beginner and it was much harder than I expected even tho I expected it to be hard, working with your horse is hard and controlling each move but another thing people don’t really realise is your body position, it’s hard to get into that routine, you aren’t always used to keeping your back and head straight, I never knew how much just having your head down could actually knock your horse off balance and make the ride much more difficult, there is a lot to it and a huge thing is trust, first time riding ok you probably won’t have that full trust it’s not easy you have to build yourself to trust the horse or you will not work well together your bad vibes effect them there is so much more to horse riding that people who have never done it wouldn’t even give a second thought

      let’s be real though, equestrians work their butts off to make it SEEM ‘easy’. especially dressage riders. i think that’s so funny, we all get a little mad when non-horse people claim horse riding is easy but then we train for years and years to learn how to make it seem like you’re not doing anything when you’re riding your horse. i mean, watch a video of edward gal in a dressage competition with his horse totilas (rest in peace); that man doES NOT MOVE i aspire to ride like that one day

      @Silver0Crow 6 років тому +2

      Depends what covers for riding for that 3 years of yours, I am riding for 3 years too, at first lesson we were learning how to clean horses and such with very short walk on lunge, on the second and third lessons we were learning balancing without holding reins in trot (still lunge), on the fourth lesson... we were left unaided to comprehend horse walk and a little trot on our own and by fifth lesson we were walking and trotting (horribly) but still on our own. (Lessons were aprox. 1.5h but it was winter so prepping horses was taking approx. 30 minutes - we were doing it on our - not experienced - own)
      So don't tell me it's no chance she would get to trotting because sure she would. Even to cantering - you don't need to learn anything to canter on horse as long as you're athletic, have a good feel for your own body (balancing and stuff) and as long as it's well mild mannered, self-balanced horse (not a cuckoo in recreational riding school)
      I hope I will get back to riding soon, I miss it so much :<

      Turbulencje I can guarantee she shouldn’t get to a trot. And here’s my reasons. The horse, it’s his grand peer horse, used to a trained rider, not a green rider. Her attitude- in the beginning she had a fear of the horse, on the ground and on the horse. The time- maybe not even a 1 hour lesson on that horse. Seemed to be get on do a little something then get off. And her overall experience would obviously set her back a lot.

    • @Silver0Crow

And every horse I try it on loves it, the tension goes away quick and its a great way to learn how its suppose to feel to have a stable hand which is great in dressage. The traditional way to hold make you very strong, many riders pull their horse to much in the mouth. So it wouldnt surprise me if he told her to hold em like that to be gentle to the horse.

      I wouldn't care tbh because that's an uneducated coment about horse riding, we have multiple disciplines and only 3 (that I can remember atm) have jumps, so it wouldn't hurt or offend me (or anyone that I know). But yeah I have to agree with you, it's not okay to bash down others and other sports as much as we don't agree or think that "it doesn't make any sense, it's just stupid".
      I've done Basketball, Soccer, Handball, Ballet, Badminton, Volleyball and finally set down with horse riding every sport has it's level of difficulty and each of them are difficult in their own way, BUT I do think that you need to have a "special touch" for horse riding since you have to be able to connect with an animal :)

      But people DO say that about riding. All. The. Time. People try to tell us it's not a sport at all. I can't tell you how many times people say "All you do is sit up there and the horse does all the work." or "You just point the horse at a jump and it jumps it, whats so hard about that?" or "I'm sure it takes SOME degree of skill to get around on a horse, but..." Honestly, equestrian sport is the most underrated sport because it's not taken seriously. If you're not a "cowboy" or jockey, people disregard you as an athlete, which is completely unfair. I've never heard anyone try to put down BMX biking because it's simply more mainstream.

    I think whichever you are not use to is harder to you, and everyone will think the sport they know about is more difficult until they 'really' try something else competitively. Riding a horse is not harder than riding a bike and vice versa. They are just both different. A bike uses far more of your own energy and exertion, cannot compensate for your landing for you, and competitively you are usually in rougher terrain and closer to others riding just as fast. A horse takes considerably more effort to balance on due to the second mind, has the risk of temperament or spooking beyond your control, and the jumps to brace for are much higher.

    For the jumping they could have gone the kids route and put her on a small horse and led her over a tiny jump.

      Shelley nah because that would make it look super easy and all the has to do is sit there while someone leads her over it so non equestrians would think there’s nothing to riding and the horse does all the work

      Having your heel down isn't really all that important as long as your leg and foot is steady and not your foot isn't slipping through the stirrup. In dressage you hardly EVER see riders with their heels down. This girl was doing flatwork at the WALK, she wan't doing a 3'3 hunter eq course. She's fine.

    She went from being terrified of petting the horse to controlling it on her own in a segment. I went through at least a few lessons on a long line and remember being terrified when the instructor told me it was my time to ride free. It's different for everyone, we all have to learn at our own pace. That horse knew what was up, though. 🤣 Like no, you need to ask better for me to walk girl, we're a team. That's a good horse to learn on, they teach you more than one who just needs something like a cue.

    It's crazy how toxic the equestrian community can be. All of you saying " hEr ReInS" or "wHaT iS sHe DoInG?!" You were all beginners too!! It was her first time getting on a horse for God's sake. Just because you have more experience that doesn't mean you get to hate on other people for not knowing what to do.

    Can we all just appreciate how well behaved this horse was. This was most likely not one of his Grand Prix horses, but a very expensive amateur horse that keeps it’s rider safe.

    My best friend was so scared to ride horse, one day I convinced her to have a little go on one of mine. fast she rode in a saddle 10 minutes at a walk, then she trotted a little bit, then I took away stirrups and made her close her eyes, I led her around for a bit. We took a little break and then I got her to jump on bareback. By the end of the day she could trot relatively well and even did a little bit of a canter. She started of nervous but gained confidence quickly. Her heels need heaps of work but her hands were ok. I've been teaching her now for half a year and she's improved heaps, I'm so proud of her 💚
    This woman will get there if she wants to and determined

    If you are learning on a well trained horse and you are taught with the basic controls specific to that horse they are pretty easy to learn with a little bit of time and slowly become incredibly predictable

      X.Alexandria.X he might have never seen someone trot their horse the first time around because he is in a different caliber of riding where they most likely start people slow but right, and add in challenge slowly but surely based on the riders level of experience and confidence.

    I give anyone and everyone props for even attempting to ride a horse, especially as an adult when your body doesn't bounce back from injuries as quickly. Equestrian is a sport that requires a lot more patience and empathy than most athletes are used to. People often forget that it is indeed a team sport - it's you and the horse.

      Angis Horseworld same. I personally don’t believe in bits as well and I feel like since she didn’t have any experience, it made it worse. I don’t like jumping either. Horses Carry almost all the weight on there front end and I don’t think jumping over 5-6 foot jumps is good for their legs in the long run🙃
