This is faaaaaar from what I expected. Nobody expects wrestler's skills to transfer to handling the balls... I am interested in how well they can do as forward players, in scrums and so forth. Likewise, I am interested in how "strong" the rugby tackles are against the wrestlers, rather than how fast... There is absolutely no point of "swap" in this video.

I think it is easier for the wrestler to learn rugby then the reverse (assuming both are top athletes in their sport). Wrestling requires a unique type of athleticism that I don't think rugby players develop. Whereas the wrestling athleticism is so universal (needing speed, strength, balance, flexibility, toughness) that it is easier to adapt to rugby, just needing to learn the techniques instead of redeveloping how their bodies are built. Think of skill points in video games, wrestlers have very balanced base physical stats, whereas rugby has more selected base stats, and more specialized skills.

I play rugby and I love it. I often thought about how I would love to try out wrestling, as well, but I am a bit insecure about it. I am pretty obese and weight 110kg (as a woman). Do you girls (maybe also guys) who do wrestling think I can still do wrestling? I am afraid that in the local wrestling school there won't be any other women about my size to do a fair match wouldn't be possible even in training. And I am also wondering about competition. I know that for professional competitions the highest weight class for women is 72 kg. So would I not be able to compete as I grow more experienced or are there different weight classes for amateur wrestling?
At first I was insecure about playing Rugby as well, but there I can often use my physical attributes to be of advantage for my team, so I am not ashamed to train and play with team mates who are all skinnier (and fitter) than me.
Would really appreciate an answer :)!

I doubt she would have won at all, given that he's double her size. Technique can only overcome so much strength disparity. That's probably why they didn't do it.

@@c.y.hollander5592 I disagree. I used to do Jiu Jitsu. I was 140lbs back then. I rolled with a friend who was 280 lbs and used to be a karate black belt when he was younger. The first few rolls I completely raped him.
Now after only a couple of rolls, he figured out the big mistakes he was doing and his strenght quickly overcame my technique, but not before a couple rolls, and I was nowhere near a blackbelt myself. I'm sure the size difference between them would have been totally insignificant as we are talking about an olympian here!

@@turmat01 Jiu jitsu is different, in my opinion, because of submission holds, which are a) relatively unfamiliar to untrained people and b1) use leverage and b2) pit strong muscles against weak ones, so don't require actually matching strength against strength. I don't believe that the same thing holds for pin wrestling, in part because that sort of fighting is roughly familiar even to many untrained people, let alone rugby players who train in tackling (the player in the video said they even train in judo!), and in part because many takedowns require a fair bit of strength as well as technique, if nothing else, because one has to lift most or all of an opponent's bodyweight.
I admit that this is just my opinion, and I could be wrong. That's why it would have been interesting to see! But the fact that the video *didn't* show them competing in actual wrestling but only in training exercises leads me to believe that I'm right. Perhaps they even tried it, but the result wasn't what they wanted, so they didn't show it.

🙄 how about instead of having a giant 220 lb man and 110 lb girl have two men in one episode and have another episode with two women. This is rediculous especially for the wrestling; technique for a tiny female wrestler will be a lot different than for a large male wrestler.... I get it’s all for fun but 🙄😂

As a wrestler I’m a girl and I train with men and we all do the exact same technique so... there ain’t enough girls for there to be separate sessions for boys and girls we all train togethed

In rugby you have to tackle everyone. So it is necessary to practice with larger partners than yourself. The opposite is true as well. The safety of your opponent is a part of the value system of competitive sports. So you must learn to safely achieve your objective.
